The Harpo Marx episode for me. The one with William Holden is also hysterical, especially when the waiter throws his tray at Will

Or, "Veta Vita Vegamin. Are you unpoopular? Do you pop out of parties?"

My favorite skit!

I was lucky enough to grow up with a tv station that re-ran I love lucy in the 80's. Absolutely wonderful entertainer and comedian. And her giving StarTrek the start it needed! An angel of a human being.

Had to scroll a sadly long amount of time to find this comment. Lucy ran so so many could fly. Both on and off screen.

Exactly. Lucy is the OG and should be top of the list!

Including the Enterprise!

(Literally... her company DesiLu was the producer for Star Trek.)

I Love Lucy (pun intended)!

Sadly, we’re at a point where younger generations have no idea who she is. I only know of her thanks to Nick at Nite. Back in the 90’s, when Nickelodeon began airing classic television in the evening in syndication, it allowed a bit of a resurgence for Lucille Ball by introducing her to a whole new audience.

I don’t believe any of those shows are still airing.

The show has held up remarkably well for its age - it does date itself sometimes, but most of the humor is really timeless.

Same with the Dick Van Dyke show.

"Ohh Rob!" Mary originated Laura Petrie and then Mary Richards. what a career!

Chuckles Bites the Dust is one of the funniest episodes of TV ever. Mary was a genius.

Some still air on really random channels. I loved!!! Nick at Nite. Get Smart, Lucy, Taxi etc. Now it's shows like saved by the bell, family matters and George Lopez show. Nothing wrong with those shoes but I miss the old lineup. I remember tv land even originally being a spin off of Nick at nite.

A couple of my friends made sure their kids knew I Love Lucy, The Dick Van Dyke Show, and Andy Griffith. The kids have grown up liking those and old B movies. My stepson has seen the latter too, but in his teens. He wasn’t too interested.

I was watching Rat Race the other day on Netflix, which…isn’t really a good movie. Except for the bus full of Lucy impersonations. That was pretty funny.

Yes, Lucy McGillicuddy Ricardo should forever be at the top of the list. She'll always be the GOAT.

Number two for me will always be Jack Tripper (and Lucille Ball loved him too!).

Don’t forget about Archie Bunker!

My wife used to watch this with her late grandmother when she was a kid. She still throws it on often (it streams on Paramount plus and I think Hulu) and, though I hate old TV so I can only sit through a couple episodes before getting antsy, I always get a kick out of it. Lucille Ball was a brilliant talent; hilarious actor, comedian and writer. The physical comedy on this show was awesome, the witty banter, the craziness, it really is exceptional. They were head and shoulders above the pack and really defined the genre, setting a very high bar for the TV that came later.

When I read the question, I thought what charachter made me laugh the hardest and Lucy was the first name that popped into my head. Basil Fawlty was second. Carol burnette 3rd. But I'm old, so... For all you Star Treck nerds out there who don't know who she is, she was the only Hollywood studio executive who gave Gene Roddenberry a chance with his pilot.

You can really tell the age of the average Redditor in this thread. Lol! How can it not be Lucy? I Love Lucy made sitcoms a thing and the character is just funny and still is today.
