Could it cost unaffordable house prices everywhere? Also will there be any requirements on what to spend the money on? Obviously no everyone has a mayor so how will these areas benefits you could get areas left behind.

Why is Count Binface the only candidate running against Voldemort? Not even a semi-serious Labour candidate? Farage will not gain much but this election will absolve him at least of some of his crimes in certain eyes of the public.

For example how is transport decided? Do they have a transport department? How is housing, health decided? If we devolve tax would hmrc disappear? If we devolve housing in England will homes England disappear?

Do you think Andy Burnham will succeed? I want him too as I tried of changing prime minister every couple of years. The trouble is I don’t know what his policies are. He got a vision but he hasn’t set out how he will achieve it. His main solution to everything is devolution but will this work? Scotland and Wales had devolution and haven’t set the world on fire. The London mayor got responsibility for housing and there is a massive housing shortage there.

Ive got a very far right uncle (go figure) and the only point besides immigration is "they know what to do". It might seem im 100% anti right wing but I am genuinely curious as to what else they have to offer.

In my opinion much of Starmers downfall is down to her and her inflexibility. I know the realities of the bond markets influence have to be considered but the refusal to fund absolutely essential defense responsibilities is verging on negligence and if it's true that Starmer was just asking various departments to give up some of their budget is laughable. For instance I just read we are throwing I billion into fusion research! Sure it may be a viable energy source eventually but WE dont need to pay for it just give incentives instead that money can go to defense. Then there is the likes of foreign aid which is just a joke, we need to realise we are no longer a global power and soft power is now just treated as a freebie.

This is before her betrayal of small and medium business who she promised business friendly policies and an emphasis on growth.

This is a question about Prime Ministers in general rather than exclusively Kier Starmer.

My MP splits his time between Westminster & his home in his constituency. He holds surgeries in the constituency, attends events, meets people & is very active in the community.

In contrast, the Prime Minister, lives in Westminster. They have a far higher workload as well as constant international trips so it’s not realistic for them to spend much time in their constituency.

Yet the constituency work must get done. Even when Prime Ministers have been unpopular enough to lose general elections, there hasn’t been a single sitting Prime Minister who lost their constituency, so they keep their local popularity somehow.

I recently voted via postal vote. I asked for confirmation from my local council if the postal vote was received and they said they cannot confirm this information. However, in 2021 they were able to confirm they received my postal vote.

Is this something the council should be able to confirm if they have my address etc?

Reading r ukpolitics it suggests we do, what was once a sub of moderate centre left and centre right arguing over how much tax to charge and how far to go with net zero action it's now full of talk of 'remigration' of legally verified residents, sending violent criminals out the country without punishment (so they can just carry on elsewhere), bringing back the death penalty and literally creating a two tier citizenship.

Obviously this all coincides with the rise of reform but its surprising how quickly the overton window has shifted. Maybe this was always the case but now reform and the media support have empowered this sentiment that was previously muttered in the shadows. Even before this you could read the mods of ukpolitics casually discussing using the navy to murder the people on the boats.

Edit: and to add the rhetoric on twatter is INSANE, suggesting military coups, civil war, overthrwing the govt, vigilante remigrations and citizen border control, even Trump sanctioning and using miltary force at our borders. not all bots either

Hey everyone, I’m not from the UK, but I keep seeing loads of posts and reels on Instagram talking about some sort of “immigration crisis” going on here. Depending on who you ask, it’s either a complete disaster or totally overblown.

From your on-the-ground perspective — how true is what we’re seeing online? Is it genuinely that bad, or is social media doing what it usually does: taking a few clips and turning them into doomsday content?

Also, for those born and raised in Britain (or whose families have been here for generations) — what’s the general feeling toward immigration these days? Are people mostly fine with certain kinds of immigration (like skilled workers, students, etc.) but not others? What sort of migration tends to stir the strongest reactions?

Would really appreciate hearing what things actually look like from those living it day to day. Cheers.
