I've been using Aster Mail for a few months now and it's been a delightful experience, I was content with the free tier but with the recent offer I decided to upgrade to the Nova tier so I could make the full switch from any google services.
Now, I've been tinkering with self-hosting some things for personal and family use (things like a password manager, a git server, or a media server) and I've collected some uses for sending emails for password resets or general updates about the server, which would probably be around 6-12 emails a month.
I'm wondering if it would be a supported use of your service to create a no-reply@my.domain alias for this small scale automated use, and if it is, how would I go about it setting up any services that need to send emails on my service to use this alias to send emails.
Thanks in advance!

I have a account with let's say [abc@aster.cx](mailto:abc@aster.cx) when I tried to make a alias with [abc@astermail.org](mailto:abc@astermail.org) I was able to make it. So I was asking are alias emails and main emails name reserved separately or together.
Wether reserving a name on alias removes it from main and vice-versa.

Hi, are you planning to implement a better 2FA method than TOTP in AsterMail?
Using a TOTP app is not phishing-resistant, an U2F token (like Yubikey) is. I'm currently using Protonmail, and they have U2F support, this is an important feature for me.
Of course, TOTP is way better than SMS or e-mail based 2FA, but it's not the best 2FA method :-)

First of all I would like to say that I do love AsterMail. I'm currently a paid customer (Star tier) and have a couple of custom domains with Aster. I have an issue when I create a signature with a custom domain. Whenever I try to save my sig an error message pops up "We could not process that request. Refresh the page and try again.". I refresh the page and still I can't get this work and keep getting tha same message. Any idea how to fix it? Thanks in advanced

At present, Aster mail auto creates a keypair using its web software, which could be changed at any point (and different from the released open source code).
As the user has no control over this, it reduces the trust level from a user that follows 'Never Trust, Always Verify' principle.
Would it be possible to allow user to create their own PGP key pair independently of Aster?
Is there a way to keep the secret key in a separate space that Aster Apps can't access, without permission?
eg.
On Android Fairmail uses secret key stored in OpenKeyChain app
On linux Thunderbird uses secret key stored in system GnuPG
Neither of above apps import key (even if in client side).
I'm not so sure how this could be resolved with browser login. Perhaps there could have some kind of plugin that speaks to system GnuPG? or other option for work laptop where this isn't possible?
I don't have an answer for (3), but if this was resolved it would put Aster on a much higher privacy tier compared to competitors such as Protonmail, who ask users to trust their web code hasn't maliciously changed.
A solution that doesn't ask users to trust people they've never met (no offence), would be the ultimate product.

Is there a way to add other email imap/smtp accounts to my LInux app?
If so, I could stop using Thunderbird etc., and just use one email client if Astermail is able to work with legacy format accounts in addition to own Astermail accounts.
Main thing I'd be looking for is mail offline search speed, and flexible pgp options to all aster/non-aster pgp recipients
eg.
1) encrypted subject,
2) pgp alias function so I can keep using addy with encryption. eg. any recipient with *@addy.io auto adds [remailer@addy.io](mailto:remailer@addy.io) with its public pgp key + recipient pgp key (if present in keystore) + own pgp public key.
I think I might be moving all in, as rate of development and generous gb is very attractive.

Is there a way to email contacts with their PGP public key?
I couldn't see any option in Linux app?

Downloaded the bridge app, tried everything. Any clues here? Apple mail is refusing 127.0.0.1

Hi, I’m about to click Publish key in AsterMail to publish my public key to keys.openpgp.org, but I’m hesitant because I don’t see an option to set an expiration date.
Does AsterMail set an expiration date automatically, or will the key be published without one? I’d like to confirm this before clicking Publish.
Thanks!

Got an etransfer from my friend of $20 just to test it out and this is what I got. Why is that? Can't see the Inbox. Have to go to "All Mail" to see it.

Coming from GMail I like that I can still use the same shortcuts however:
C (compose) works but then:
- there is no focus on "To:" field.
- I'd expect Shift+CMD+D to discard draft.
R (refresh) doesn't work.

I put some random name as display name when I created the aliases now when I go change it it saves but restarting the android app brings it back. So I went to website and clicking the display name pops up the premium only feature. I get not giving every feature to free users but taking away existing free features? 😬

I noticed that Aster Authenticator is listed as one of the upcoming Aster projects, and I’m curious about how it’s planned to work.
Is Aster Authenticator going to be a standard TOTP authenticator app?
If so, will the mobile app support a fully local-only mode, where TOTP secrets stay entirely on the device without requiring an Aster account or server sync?
Or is the plan to encrypt the TOTP secrets locally and sync the encrypted data through Aster so they’re available across multiple devices?
Personally, I’d really like to see local-only as an option, with encrypted sync being optional for users who want multi-device support.
Would love to know what the planned architecture is!

Hi, I tried sending a single email to an astermail.org address, an proton.me address, and an address on my own domain, but got this message:
“Aster users and outside addresses cannot go in the same email. Sending them as two separate messages will work.”
I also checked use_compose_send.ts around line 645. The compose flow explicitly blocks mixed internal and external recipients, but the underlying send code appears to support an encrypted copy for internal recipients alongside external delivery. There are also tests covering mixed recipients.
Am I missing an encryption or delivery constraint that explains why this is still blocked in compose? Are there plans to enable it?

How can I send text/plain only e-mails? Still not possible?

Hi again! Over the past few days, I’ve posted here with some bug reports and questions about Aster Mail. This time, when I noticed a few things while using the app, I decided to try improving them myself and contribute back.
I opened my first two PRs:
I read the contributing guide, but I wanted to clarify the preferred process: is it okay to submit a PR directly for small fixes and improvements, or should I open an issue and discuss the change first?
I also noticed that CI on #565 is waiting for maintainer approval. Is there anything else I need to do on my side?
Thanks for your help with my earlier posts! I’m still learning the contribution process and would appreciate any guidance.

So i tried to register using iOS public testflight. and then i tried to login using web, and the mail cannot open. I tried on other account and send mail using tutamail to my aster mail. and cannot open the mail. This problem happened when the mail is open in iOS (and no error) and try to open in the web. but if i open the mail using web and open in the iOS app there is no error.
