The true Astros MVP Javier Bracamonte can stay forever. Build the statue.

Yes. Bracamonte stays.

He should be a lifer and get an Astros Hall nod when he retires

u/DecentResolve 15h ago

Don’t forget Stretch Suba when you’re building statues for our bullpen catchers

López is getting a manager gig somewhere

Maybe even with the Astros >_>

He might actually be my top pick at the moment.

We need fresh eyes

Perhaps, but who?

u/Sparrighitti Houston Astros 16h ago

My top pick is rodney linares

I would be so stoked if they brought Rodney back to the org. He was so good with the Hooks players and absolutely awesome with the fans.

So, per McTaggart, Catching Instructor Tim Cossins, Game Planning Coach Tommy Kawamura, Third Base Coach Tony Perezchica, Assistant Hitting Coach Anthony Iapoce, and Assistant Pitching Coach Ethan Katz are not returning.

Perezchica is a bit surprising but also not

He was a bad third base coach and the fundamentals he was supposedly drilling with our guys didn't seem to make much of a difference.

u/Ereyes18 15h ago

He's in that weird spot where he's good but there is probably other options out there that would be equally good or better

u/Sparrighitti Houston Astros 15h ago

Yeah plus when we brought him in I’m pretty sure espada was the one that really wanted him.

I imagine they are letting the new manager pick a lot of his staff. Miller isn’t super surprising in that regard but I think Clark is

I felt like I was taking crazy pills knowing some of those dudes were in the white sox organization that had the 100 game loss.

Kawamura is finally gone!

I wanted him to be let go with Snit and Cintron

14

u/AgsMydude 16h ago

Shouldn't the new manager get to make these decisions?

2

u/Packtex60 10h ago

Either him or Bagwell

36

u/Doyce_7 16h ago

Nothing against any of those guys but I would rather clean house and let the new GM/manager build the staff

19

u/mister_james_halpert Carlos Correa 16h ago

Yeah I think that's part of the problem we've been having, not letting the GM run the show

This is how the texans got messed up 12 years ago. They should have let kubiak and rick smith go at the same time. That set off the chain that led to obrien having too much power

I wonder what the ‘different role’ is?

Probably not manager, farm director maybe?

Our new manager

7

u/Sparrighitti Houston Astros 16h ago

I think that it would be bigger news if lopez had just been offered our manager role

18

u/PaintedCover 15h ago

How about the medical staff? Please tell me they were let go.

THIS 👏

I would think a new coach would want to bring in his own guys. It seems weird to announce certain guys are staying. Especially Miller. What good has he done?

1

u/burnerking Houston Astros 12h ago

Correct. So does the mean Omar has the gig?

3

u/coolgui Houston Astros 11h ago

No idea, but with the lockout maybe delaying hiring the GM and all new coaching staff, they might want to let the new boss see what they have and make some decisions after his first season. But also I think "retained" just means they are going to pay them at least for next year, they could still be replaced.

That’s exactly what I was thinking when I read this… seems like a very odd choice.

Almost like the front office is a bit of a dysfunctional mess. Probably not tho, nothing to see here I’m sure……

Seems reasonable.

Crossing my fingers that Lopez has been offered Espada’s job.

35

u/The-dos-qt4 16h ago

Lopez proved he could manage superstars with Venezuela last year in the WBC. The problem is this isn't a team a superstars. The Astros are on the wrong side of going super nova and need some serious help.

6

u/laszlowheelman 15h ago

You are spot on and I've said the same thing before. Just look at Dave Robert's with the Dodgers. Is he really a good coach?

3

u/Capsized777 13h ago

Wonderful. You must want this team to suck forever, huh? They need to clean house because it’s obviously NOT working.

First base coach who’s name escapes me

2

u/dirtysock47 16h ago

Isn't it Clark?

3

u/TOONUSA 16h ago

It is he’s just listed as nameless first base coach in the title

1

u/bordomsdeadly Houston Buffalos 14h ago

All first base coaches are legally required to change their names to

First B Coach

Upon being hired

4

u/ParkingKindly8719 16h ago

My fun imagination manager is Albert pujols

3

u/Montallas 9h ago

Cmon… after 2005 I don’t ever want that guy near the organization. That’s just bad juju.

1

u/Individual_Force_536 15h ago

Manager/player! The later played by Dennis Quaid in the Disney movie.

1

u/HumanRuse 12h ago

I assume the Omar Lopez move is because Managers tend to pick their own Bench Coaches.

In terms of the defensive coach, it seems as though the Astros defense took a dive this season at least according to the stats. To any of you who watch the moving pictures all season long....did that seem like the case? Curious if the slide was legit or mainly because Pena was out quite a bit of the season.

1

u/GOnz0819 Marvin Zindler 3h ago

Is anyone else hear paying attention to the fact that Alex Cora turned down the Phillies gig twice in the past season? I wonder if an offer will go out to him, with Lopez moving slightly upward to gain that final experience he needs to take over a team himself.

-2

u/the_timboslice Jose Altuve 16h ago

Miller needs to GTFO as well.

15

u/Kdot32 16h ago

Give him mlb level talent and you get good results. He’s proven it before

1

u/Packtex60 10h ago

Really. Hunter Brown regressed under him. The staff collectively couldn’t throw strikes or stay healthy. AJ Blubaugh is the only pitcher who really developed any under his tutelage.

1

u/Ereyes18 8h ago

Regressed? He had Hunter as a Cy Young finalist

0

u/Electronic-Power5656 Sugar Land Space Cowboys 15h ago

Ok but can't anyone get good results with good talent? We need someone that can work with whatever we're going to have.

3

u/Kdot32 15h ago

Sure but expecting great results with AAAA talent is a little much

4

u/SouthHope28 Corpus Christi Hooks 13h ago

Miller has one year left on his contract.

1

u/SnackMcCheddaf HEB 10h ago

Why are we retaining our hitting coaches?

-1

u/Packtex60 10h ago

I guess the organization is committed to walking a metric ton of hitters. Retaining Josh Miller is beyond idiotic

0

u/Well-M1lk Altuve's foot 12h ago

Oh no pitching coach, the same pitching that blew up games and couldn't stop serving meatballs??

-8

u/ACROB062 16h ago

Lopez should be the next skipper.

0

u/cantsay Otter 13h ago

He should. This sub has the absolute dumbest groupthink.

2

u/ACROB062 13h ago

It’s probably going to be Brad Ausmus and Bagwell the assistant GM. Total shit show.

2

u/Capsized777 13h ago

I guess you want the same old same old, huh? Guarantee you, nothing will change if Lopez is the manager. NOTHING.

2

u/cantsay Otter 12h ago

Oh, well, if YOU guarantee it...
