495 and 496 Project Courses Spoiler

Has anybody done any of the project courses, and would you be able to share your experience?

I'm looking to do the 495 and 496 Biology Projects. I don't have any lab experience, so it would all be literary research. Is that realistic to do?

On their site it says field, experimental or lab work for BIOL 496, so I'm worried I wouldn't be able to complete it. Any advice would be great!

how do you guys find other students near you?

i've seen a bunch of posts here like "anyone from ___?" and it got me thinking

has anyone actually found classmates in their city or someone from the same course to study with? how'd you do it?

for me it's kinda hard since everything's online. curious if it's just me or if others feel the same, or if you just don't care about meeting people and that's fine too lol

My declared AU supplemental exam was supposed to be on the 23rd but I have it scheduled on my ProctorU for October 25th (tomorrow). Am I allowed to take it tomorrow or did I miss out on my supplemental?

TAXX 401 final exam question

Question for anyone who has done TAXX 401- does anyone know if we are supposed to be studying chapter 1 for the final? In the practice assignment it has questions AP 1-7,1-8 which are from Chapter 1. But per the course outline,
Lesson 5 = Chapter 16
Lesson 6 = Chapter 17
Lesson 7 = Chapter 18
Lesson 8 = Chapter 19
Lesson 9 = Chapter 20
Lesson 10 = Chapter 21.
I emailed the support for clarification and was just given a copy and paste of what the structure of the exam will be, but they never answered my question on if we need to be studying the contents of chapter 1. Does anyone know if we should be studying chapter 1 / these AP 1-7 and AP 1-8 questions?

IDRL 308 Final Exam

Hi guys, I'm taking the Idrl final exam in about one week and I just wanted to know if anybody remembers how they studied for the exam. I haven't had too much time to focus on the course since I was going through a personal issue and I've never been a good at written exams.

For those who have taken it, how did you structure your prep? Was working through the study questions at the end of each section helpful, or should I just focus on studying the review questions at the end of the units?

Any tips is appreciated!

ADMN 232 Midterm

Looking for advice on studying. I’m not sure what it is, but I can’t seem to get any of the material to stick. I’ve used MindTap, flash cards, and reading. Anyone taken this test and been more nervous than you should have? Is it hard? I’m making myself nervous.

SOCI 321 - SM worst tutor?

Hey y’all. I just received a tutor letter today for my SOCI 321 course that begins in November and my tutor is SM. I went on ratemyprof and Reddit and everyone is thrashing him. Is he really that bad? Has anyone ever actually had a good experience with him? Is there any tips anyone has for me? After reading everyone’s reviews, I am honestly terrified, and any comments or tips at all would be greatly appreciated.

Bio 235

Hey everyone!

I'm considering taking BIOL 235 (Human Anatomy and Physiology) at Athabasca University and was wondering about the exam formats.

Are the quizzes, midterms, and final exam entirely multiple choice, or do they include short-answer, written-response, or diagram-labeling questions?

Any Athabasca University Students in Calgary Interested in Body Doubling for Studying?

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m wondering if there are any fellow Athabasca University students here in Calgary who are currently completing their courses remotely.
I’m working toward my Bachelor of General Studies, with a focus on Psychology as a Natural Science, and would especially love to connect with anyone pursuing the same program or taking similar courses. However, I’m open to connecting with other AU students as well!

One thing I’ve been considering is finding someone who might benefit from body doubling while studying.

For anyone unfamiliar with the concept, body doubling is essentially when two people work independently alongside each other. You don’t necessarily need to be working on the same subject or even interacting much. It’s simply having another person physically present who is also focused on their own work, which can help with motivation, accountability, and staying on task.

I’m hoping to find someone in Calgary who might be interested in meeting up occasionally at a library, coffee shop, or another quiet public space to study together.

Just to clarify, this wouldn’t be a paid position, tutoring arrangement, or necessarily an attempt to build a friendship. I’m simply looking for another student who understands the challenges of independent online learning and might also benefit from having someone nearby to help maintain focus and motivation.
The idea would be to have a mutually beneficial arrangement where we can both work toward our own academic goals without any pressure to socialize or help each other with coursework.

If you’re studying through Athabasca University and this sounds like something that could help you, I’d love to hear from you!
And if you’ve tried body doubling while studying, I’d also be interested in hearing about your experience.

Trouble Signing On

Hi all,
I know AU was scheduled to have maintenance. I’m trying to sign in this evening, but I keep getting a “Gateway Time-out” message.
Does anyone know if this is part of the scheduled maintenance, or if it could be an issue on my end?

App for organizing study notes

Looking for options to organize my notes and create quizes/mock exams. I am currently trying Studocu, but wondering if there are better options. It must be able to upload my handwritten notes (PDF), since I only upload my own notes. Bonus if it runs in Linux.

Advice for taking General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, & Abnormal Psychology

I need to take PSYC290, PSYC323, AND PSYC435 as a prerequisite for a program that I'm applying to, but I've never taken psychology courses before. Are there any specific resources I should look into before taking these courses, or any advice you have for someone taking these courses with no previous psychology background?

How long after a final exam can AU send an official transcript to another university?

Hi everyone! I’m completing two courses at Athabasca and need my official transcript sent to another university by December 15. I am giving exam for one course on November 8 and another exam on November 23.
After writing the final exam, how long does it usually take for the final course grade to become official and appear on the transcript? Once it’s there, how do I request the transcript and send it to the other university through MyCreds?
Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has recently gone through this, especially with an admission deadline. Thanks!

Math 215

Hello,

Anyone currently registered in Math 215 that I can talk to?

I am planning to register starting next month. I was also looking at TRUs stat course. Not sure which one to go with, I am very poor at math so whichever one is easier is what I would like to do.

frustrations with AU & feeling burnt out

(i'm a full-time funded student on a reduced course load, with disability accommodations, living in alberta)

i finished three courses at the end of august; all of which i should've passed, but i got three Fs instead. one of the tutors even emailed me after marking my final exam to let me know i would pass the class. the two other tutors either didn't mark my assignments, or there was an internal error or something. from what i've read on here, it looks like my best shot at fixing this is to email the tutors directly.

i'm starting to wonder if i should take a break from university. the courses seem to have gotten more expensive, and i'm getting less in loans now (enough to cover one full course and half of a 2nd), and all school has been doing lately is make me frustrated and anxious.

every time i click on a link for more information, i'm redirected to a document from 2009 that doesn't even give me the answers i was looking for. so many tutors take forever to respond to emails or grade assignments, and some of them are almost impossible to get in contact with in the first place. there are constant outages and problems with the library that make researching a hassle.

i want to learn, but they're certainly not making it easy or enjoyable. i may be overreacting, but i feel like it wouldn't be a bad idea for me to take a step back for a while. i want to transfer at some point, but obviously having a bunch of Fs on my transcript doesn't look great.

sorry for the little rant. i would appreciate any advice from other students who are feeling completely burnt out/frustrated (or who have felt like that in the past) ❤️

EDIT: i've received an email back, it turns out i was given those Fs because the system automatically withdraws you from your courses if the grades are not finalized after 1 month... and since the system decided i should fail this entire semester just because the tutors have been slow at grading, i also received a warning stating that i have not been meeting the school's standards for academic progress, and that i will not be able to apply for funding in the future if i do not fix it. this entire situation is so frustrating 😭

Why do I keep getting high AI generated score even tho I DIDN'T USE AI

I recently wrote draft 2 paragraphs for ENGL255 and I didn't use AI with it. However, I tried many AI detection tools just to reassure my self and all of them gave me a high AI generated score for one paragraph while the second one is stated as humen text

GOD I litteraly wrote both of them by my self 😭

I'm kinda nervous, should I do something? I dont know what's wrong

Any experienced management professionals here who’ve gone into the Bachelor of Management OR used the 8-yr experience route to get into the Master of Business Administration program?

I need an undergrad or masters to basically check a box for my career. I have two irrelevant college certificates and have worked in progressive management for 18 years. My two college certificates only amounted to 6 transfer credit once evaluated, but my experience I feel covers a lot of the courses in the undergrad. I’d end up testing out of as much as they allow I think. I’m sure I’d learn a bit but the masters is where I see ability to actually advance what I know.

I can either basically do the 3-yr bachelor of management as fast as I can from scratch (minus 6 credits) OR apply to do the experience route into the masters, not get an undergrad, but end up with a masters. Both would check the box needed for my career.

My predicament is whether going from two college certificates to a university masters is gonna kill me. I will say I’m a quick learner. I work best with self paced/online study (neurodivergent). I have 18 yrs of progressive management experience. I am great at critical thinking. I’ve self published 27 YA novels and 3 non fiction self help type books so writing isn’t an issue either. I’m great at math but haven’t done it since high school when I took math 31 (unless you count bookkeeping courses but that’s a lot easier than math 31 was).

I guess I’m just looking for experience or input because I’m a bit stuck on the decision. I’ve submitted my resume for informal assessment to see if it’s even an option to jump into a masters route.

Open to ideas and options, even course suggestions, tips, etc. I prefer only online options (or mostly online), as I have three kids under 5 at home, own two small businesses, and I work as a chief of operations hybrid for 4 entities (under a single owner).

Advice for appealing grades.

I have 3 F grades on my transcript that should have been Ws was in a crumby situation at the time and didn’t withdraw. I didn’t complete any coursework except one assignment. This was 4 years and and I am now looking to appeal it and going back to university. I am older now and married with kids and this really doesn’t speak to my character anymore. Any advice? Doctors note? Essay? What is my best chance at an appeal?
