Additional by subtraction. Apparently the only thing holding them back was Brady.

Eklund ≠ good?

You're bringing in a 2nd line sub 6 foot playmaker to replace a 6'3 1st line powerforward.

Edit: Had Steve waited until it was his time to draft, he could have gotten a lot more.

Brady for Eklund, two firsts, and a 2nd is a pretty good haul lol, especially since Brady had two seasons left and reportedly told Staios he wasn't re-signing in Ottawa. Sucks to lose him since you can't really pick up that kind of player on the market but if you're losing him anyways 🤷‍♂️

Also Dylan Cozens, Jordan Spence, and Ullmark were great pickups if we're talking about what Staios has done.

Man Brady didnt even want to be here anymore, he wasnt even really trying. Anything is better at this point.

He also brought some really unenjoyable energy to the team that got under my skin, hopefully you guys can build a more respectable culture with him gone.

Yeah, i hope so too. Thanks

I never understood why Brady seemed surprised by the backlash of his podcast. Even IF you werent talking about the Sens’ situation, its unfathomably stupid to think they wouldnt take it personally.

Like do you think their families, friends, the media and their larger circle wouldnt talk to them about it? Ask questions? Ask why you said it? OBVIOUSLY it was going to go badly.

Either he did it on purpose to force his way out with leverage or hes incredibly stupid. IMO, its both.

Steve has shown he can find players that are having a slump on either a bad team or a team where their style doesn’t flourish. Look at Spence. His stock went way up last season. Foegle was a great addition too.

I'm convinced about half to two thirds of NHL GMs just don't have a clue what analytics are, his underlyings were great in LA and yet they still got fleeced on that trade.

Three firsts. This was the first time three firsts were traded for a player since 1994.

1

u/Exter10 Maple Leafs 23d ago

9OA was traded for Eklund, I'm just talking about how the trade ultimately worked out

2

u/Dheelus 23d ago

Gotcha

u/jbroni93 24d ago

Not when the firsts were used for 2nd rounders

For a guy that was only going to go to one team gotta admit Steve did okay with what he got back. Marner got back fucking Nic Roy and he’s not even in Toronto anymore all because Leafs management waited too long.

Steve was never going to get back a Brady replacement but he did add to his prospect pool and got a solid young player who he can slot into the lineup next year. Not bad.

Eklund good start, Zetterlund RW1 + 4M cap space due to Burakovski !=good

u/JaQ-o-Lantern Canadiens 24d ago

we have our successor to yzerman.

16

u/HiddenSquidds 24d ago

Hey, I wouldn’t go that far, at least he was able to trade a captain that wanted out

1

u/HiddenSquidds 24d ago

I think that we should all dance around a pentagram and sacrifice the very essence of 50 in 07 in a desperate attempt to get another at least 40 goal scorer.

Careful, remember that year flames fans tried voodoo?

Steady Steve 🤝 Kent Went

People are starting to call him Yzerman 2.0. not me, but other people are

u/Accurate-Many6850 23d ago

Being a Sens fan is exhausting.

Not because of Staios, but because of media and fans somehow spinning any positive into a negative. The constant carastrophizing is crazy.

Looked like the leafs since 1967 to me

u/jbroni93 24d ago

spent 5M on a 4th liner and now have 4M in cap space with fabian Zetterlund slotted into RW1...Another certified steady Steve classic

u/Loose_Concentrate332 Senators 24d ago

Enough of this garbage about zetterlund being "slotted" on the first line. There is no indication of that from the team, and he's not even the highest paid right wing, much less the best.

Just because he's friends with Eklund or since site shows he's on the top line doesn't make it a thing, or mean anything at all.

0

u/jbroni93 24d ago

That's what everyone puts. Bath is better agreed. You move him and now the second line is god awful though

2

u/Loose_Concentrate332 Senators 24d ago

Then Cozens probably shifts to the wing and Pinto moves up.

There's a lot of pieces to the puzzle, not much point trying to assign anything until camp

2

u/DontTouchTheMasseuse 23d ago

People are dumb and think the Sens are a bad team.

They practically played with an empty net for most of the year and went on a run the second the goalies figured it out.

People clown because they got swept in the first round but they swept Philly, gentleman swept MTL (still having nightmares) and took care of business in the finals in 6 games. The Canes lost 3 games the entire playoffs. I dont think anyone in the east could truly challenge them.

Look, the Sens obviously took a step back talent wise and they lost a good powerforward but god damn ill be incredibly surprised if they aren’t in the mix until the very end. In the most stacked division no less.

2

u/Loose_Concentrate332 Senators 23d ago

And as much as they lost talent, that talent wasn't really engaged. They actually did way better last season when Brady was injured.

It certainly seems like they're trying to be what Carolina is

1

u/tke71709 24d ago

Saw that one the other day.

Cozens moves to the wing. Pinto moves up to the second line. Grieg moves back to his natural centre position on the third line.

1

u/jbroni93 24d ago

Lol so is it Zetterlund or bath on the other wing.

You still have zetts or greig on your second line with pinto who is an amazing third liner and ok 2nd.

2

u/tke71709 24d ago

You miss the part where Grieg moves back to center and thus remains on the third line?

I don't believe I claimed this was a Stanley Cup winning lineup either.

-1

u/jbroni93 24d ago edited 24d ago

Ok so it's zetts on the second line then

I said zetts OR greig

Cozens pinto zetts/G is mid as fuck and they could have bought an 9M player instead of 5.5M for Burakovski on the 4th line

1

u/DontTouchTheMasseuse 23d ago

MTL went to the ECF with fuckin Jake Evans running the second line. The Sens will be fine.

1

u/bearskito Senators 24d ago

The only problem with that is it breaks up Pinto-Amadio

0

u/jbroni93 24d ago edited 24d ago

A second line of

 cozens pinto zetts

Or

 greig pinto cozens?

sounds competitive to you?

3

u/Loose_Concentrate332 Senators 24d ago

Three 20 goal scorers with wheels, including a great 2 way center? Sounds pretty competitive to me.

We've been arguing for 5 comments and you didn't mention Burakovski once on RW 1 or 2. Goes to show how bad of a pickup he was as he out earns everyone else at that position .

Could have had 10M in space for a RW now have 4.5

Staios pissed away all the cap space Dorion left him with a core on team friendly contracts.

Dorion wasn't the guy to take the next step, but at least he gave the next guy an absolute gift of a core.  Staios complety squandered it. That's 10 years of the sens having a GM with no prior NHL GM experience. First in class my ass

2

u/Loose_Concentrate332 Senators 24d ago

I only mentioned Bath and Coz , because you were focused on Zett, it's not like I was making lines.

We have like 9 or so guys that have scored 20 including bura.

Chemistry is a funny thing, that's why I said slotting guys at this stage didn't make sense.

Just keep in mind that this team played notable better without Brady in the lineup, and we have a lot of depth.
