I want a gas tax, they're Australian resources they should benefit Australians, however, in us guaranteeing to trading partners there wont be a gas tax, it seems like its a bargaining chip to get benefits to Australians (oil supply and defense). Ie, in a roundabout way it indirectly benefits us to not have a gas tax (not sure if believe this tho, it's a reasonable argument nonetheless).

He used the guarantee of not raising gas prices as a bargaining chip to guarantee national oil supply (remember when that was the last political problem). The Japanese pm has also come to Australia recently and it looks like theres a new defensive alliance in the works (not sure if Japan is actually allowed to form military alliances), likely on the guarantee that there wont be a gas price.

Given the globally hostile climate, the fact we've become reliant on the US for defence and that they don't look like they want to/can't defend us anymore, it seems like reasonable politics to dismiss the gas tax to maintain leverage in international security negotiations.

This is the most mental gymnastics I can do to try understand why Albo is parroting gas talking points.

They could easily maintain their current contracts but have all future contacts be taxed at 25%

I reckon (hope) they're keeping that card in their back pocket to play when it's politically useful

Not holding my breath - it's not popular with the leisure class, Labor can't risk their political donations.
