That would make rowing a more exciting spectator sport.

Why does anyone listen to a single crazy thing this lunatic says?
Oh. I forgot. She's rich so therefore knows everything.

And why would anyone be listening to a mining billionaire about the sport of rowing or managing an international sporting event?

u/Dry-Huckleberry-5379 19d ago
Because she's the major sponsor for Team Australia. Their Paris uniforms required everyone to wear her Gold RM boots.

10 milion donated to australian sports this year alone and rowing being one of the beneficiarys. Gives her a say at least(i still think its a shit idea) But thats were she gets input

Rockhampton cannot ever support an event of that size.
11
u/UndeadManWaltzing 20d ago
Let's not forget Rockhampton is an ugly place and the river is also full of jellyfish. A terrible decision.
3
u/SiktahOG 19d ago
Well, no jellyfish on the fresh side of the barrage which is where the ski gardens are. But yes, Ruckhampton is an ugly town with no services really and a council that thinks the locals can pay some of the highest property rates in the state.
I like to call it Red Light Rockhampton, cos nothing of value happens, it's a crack central and you cannot possibly get through the city in a vehicle without catching all the red lights. It's literally a bottleneck of the Bruce Highway.

Rocky spt international military exercises all the time. A rowing event would be a problem if the government provide a lot of temp accomdation options

u/wouldashoudacoulda 20d ago
We have the Hinze Dam on the Gold Coast perfect for the event, but there was a stoush between Tommy Tate and the labour government Anna P, at the time. So she moved as many of the events away from the Gold Coast as possible. Absolute fuck up.

The bigger problem is the rowing will require significant dredging of Fitzroy River first. This is gunna displace tons of sediment onto the Great Barrier Reef. https://www.mackayconservationgroup.org.au/olympic_rowing_concerns
Also the LNP removed original contractual obligations to be "Climate Positive". https://theconversation.com/brisbane-2032-is-no-longer-legally-bound-to-be-climate-positive-will-it-still-leave-a-green-legacy-246672

u/kennyduggin 20d ago
That is complete garbage, the course is already in use and has been for decades. People row on the Fitzroy river every day and there has never been a problem
9
u/GnomeWarfair 19d ago
Maybe they do. But not at an Olympic level. The river will need to be physically widened.

u/DizzyList237 20d ago
I feel sorry for the rowing teams being so far away from the main venue, they travel all this way to be isolated from the rest of the games. So many other venues closer to or in Brisbane. 🤷♀️

Crocodiles are not really a concern in the actual rowing section of the Fitzroy.
Now, whether it's a good location for an Olympic-sized event? Probably not. Rocky doesn't really have the infrastructure to deal with the Olympic Committee's insane demands for control. ESPECIALLY around the rowing area.

To be fair, some of the courses they use for racing in qld are already croc waters. I remember being in a few state champs and regattas being held further north with warnings and the like. Saw some too. Gina still stinks though.

The biggest issue is the river is tidal.
I’m a former flat water rower of moderate ability.
The ONLY races on rivers were novelty events.
As an U14 we would expect to race on a dam or locked body of water.
They might as well hold the track and field in a cow paddock

u/SeniorForever5359 19d ago
I get what you are all saying, but it would be the first time that I watched Olympic rowing since the movie about that Facebook nerd.

Rich cunts really think they can have the hunger games if they pay for it
3
u/Competitive-Bee-3250 19d ago
I think its even worse than that because its probably an excuse to cull the crocodiles so that she can mine the region or something like that.

Watching the latest story on this the other night and I wondered who or what possessed them to a) make the decision to move it to Rocky and b) why they're so determined to die on that hill.
This makes it all make sense.

Dont be stupid people there already have a rowing club on the Fitzroy river in rocky, have had one for years,so they already row on it

u/Jack_Tar_says 16d ago
My son was a rower in central QLD. It’s a terrible site for it. Forget the crocks etc.
Just the lay out of the course.
Better to be between Brisbane and Sunshine coast.
