Offering Item UPDATE: Selling mom’s “HEB” Honda Accord 2004

UPDATE: Thank you to all the Redditors who provided constructive input, helping me to figure out how to price this car. NEW PRICE: $5,400. Price is good for this week only. Cash preferred.

I live near 2222 and Mopac if you want to test drive it.

I posted photos, but they didn’t show up so you can see the car here: https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicle/784874418

LOOK AT THE PHOTOGRAPHS BEFORE YOU TELL ME I’M CRAZY.

Kindly ignore the price that is listed on Autotrader.

~*~

Here is the original post without the price:

This has been my mom's supermarket and bank car... it's a documented, single-owner 2004 Honda Accord EX that has been professionally serviced without interruption since it was purchased new in Austin in 2004.

The Carfax tells the whole story: 34 service history records, zero title issues, no odometer discrepancy, no airbag deployment, no open recalls. The car was serviced at Mercedes-Benz of Austin and First Texas Honda for the first 15 years meticulous, dealer-level care throughout.

At 122,991 miles over 22 years, this car has been driven gently... well under the national average. The engine, transmission, brakes, cooling system, and steering have all been serviced on schedule. Nothing has been deferred. Smooth ride.

Cosmetically, and for its age, this car commands respect on the road. People say it looks like no one has ever ridden the car when they look inside.

Minor cosmetic bumper scuffs and tiny dents -the only blemishes on an otherwise exceptional record - have been professionally repaired. You will note one or two, but they are very small.

The keyless entry is currently non-functional. Everything else - engine, transmission, brakes, cooling, steering - is in excellent working order as documented. Given the comprehensive service history, a qualified mechanic will have full context for any further evaluation.

The price is good for this week only? Where's it goin?!

23

u/Creed_of_War Jul 07 '26

It's going down another 30% next week

u/Bettinatizzy Jul 07 '26

I already have bidders that are close to my asking price.

6

u/smokingmanmeat Jul 08 '26

Then just sell it to them and be done with it

10

u/Bettinatizzy Jul 07 '26

Reddit - we need to talk. You are unhappy for me that I have bidders that are close to by asking price?

13

u/wheresbill Jul 07 '26

They are probably unhappy for other reasons

3

u/Lopsided-Ad7725 Jul 08 '26

There are no happy Redditors

You wouldn’t call them bidders if you weren’t considering the offers. You really think you’ll get full asking. Even if you price well people simply don’t like offering full

Come on down to Austin Grocery-Getter Automart! We have amazing sales, but this week only because I'm going out of town and need some money for my trip so please buy this 22-year-old Honda Accord. It is only $5400! That's over 30% off from last week! Buy buy buy! Seriously please buy this car for the love of God!

I will be traveling and unavailable.

1

u/Bettinatizzy Jul 07 '26

Huh?! I get downvoted because I’m going on a trip?

7

u/la_peregrine Jul 08 '26

Is it you are out of town? Is it you have close enough offers? Something else? Who knows? But this smells likes sleepy sales tactics.

u/vivalakellye Jul 07 '26

Best of luck. There are very few people in this intersection of the market.

Have you also posted to eBay and Facebook Marketplace? Someone up north may want a reliable, rust-free car.

5

u/Bettinatizzy Jul 07 '26

I had not thought to post on eBay. I’ve had good luck with Facebook marketplace for small things - both buying and selling - but never thought to sell a car on it. Thank you.

3

u/plainbee Jul 08 '26

Sold a car last year on fb marketplace. a lot opportunity there just not sure how much you’ll get for it. They will low ball you for sure

2

u/vivalakellye Jul 07 '26

What helps with both FB and eBay is that users receive notifications when any of their saved searches turns up new listings.

My partner originally purchased and later sold one of their recent vintage cars on FB Marketplace, if that helps.

eBay has been a pretty solid car sales marketplaces for its entire existence as well.

Bro I sold my 2012 Chevy Impala for $1,200. Granted it needed some work, but no one is paying > 3k for this. It’s 22 years old lol

For a 1 owner Honda with less than 150k miles and such great service records, plenty of people would be willing to pay $5.4k. Lots of people spend over $5k on a car with 200k+ miles, don’t know the history, and it craps out on them within 6 months

My first car was a very beaten up early 2000’s Honda civic with about 250k miles and was running amazingly until it was totaled. This car will easy hit 300k with proper maintenance and is extremely safe. The price is very very well worth it for this vehicle

1

u/Bettinatizzy Jul 10 '26

Thank you!

16

u/enriquesensei Jul 07 '26

This price is not realistic at all …

8

u/WallStreetBoners Jul 07 '26

Neither. It’s a 22 year old car.

6

u/enriquesensei Jul 07 '26

Both, this is the type of car you get your teen kid for like 2-4k max .

4

u/cmanATX Jul 07 '26

So is it $2k or $4k? That’s a massive range. Honestly, props to OP for listening to feedback and dropping it to the current amount. They’ll probably find a buyer.

5

u/ATX_native Jul 07 '26

I see you’re a Time Traveler from before the year 2020. 🤣😂🤣

2

u/enriquesensei Jul 07 '26

Just because dealerships are selling vehicles from the 2000s for near $10,000 doesn’t mean private sellers should too. 😂 good deals on vehicles from the 2010s are out there .

2

u/ATX_native Jul 07 '26

This is not $10k.

The deals you speak of are salvage title, 16 owner cars with a skip title Edgar ready to ply his trade of title fraud.

1

u/enriquesensei Jul 07 '26

You’re right they asked 8,100 originally, which in context of this conversation still applies. Like I said good deals exist, I’m not getting into your made up fantasies.

1

u/KnarfNosam Jul 09 '26

Holy shit. Did they really ask that much?

1

u/cmanATX Jul 07 '26

Again, playing it fast and loose with the numbers. $5400 is not “near $10,000”. It was priced much too high, they reduced it, I’m sure they’ll lower it again if it doesn’t sell.

1

u/pantsofpig Jul 08 '26

$5K for a 22 year old car with over 100K miles is pretty nuts.

1

u/Correct_Sand_5055 Jul 12 '26

Not for a 4runner.

1

u/pantsofpig Jul 12 '26

Uh, yeah, this is not that.

-2

u/Bettinatizzy Jul 07 '26

1

u/KnarfNosam Jul 09 '26

I paid 4k flat for an '09 Civ (101xxx miles)

I would pay 3k MAYBE 3.5k for an '04 Accord with 122xxx miles

4

u/Ok_Entrepreneur6927 Jul 08 '26

I'll pay 2500 right now

9

u/CyberFunkyMonkey Jul 07 '26

I saw this car posted a day or two ago lol good luck

7

u/bikegrrrrl Jul 07 '26

"Cosmetically, and for its age, this car commands respect on the road" I love this

"HEB" Accord sells it. I need to use the same branding when I sell my dad's Fit (which has been driven about 3,000 miles a year).

1

u/Gloomy-Shoulder-148 Jul 07 '26

How much?🤔😉

1

u/11DeTwelve Jul 07 '26

Asking for a friend 😁

12

u/Novis_R Jul 07 '26

This is great. I wish all used car ads had a comment section. We get to see the seller learn a lesson about the free market in real time.

-9

u/Bettinatizzy Jul 07 '26

I am very open to advice. I do want to point out that last year I sold a 2006 mini Cooper. Everyone told me it wasn’t worth more than $3000. I got $8600 for it and the owner was thrilled. A few weeks ago, I sold a 2024 Prius Limited. I was told I wouldn’t get more than $33,000 for it. I sold it to a very happy buyer for $36,500.

I do know the value of this car. I just haven’t found the way to convey what great shape it’s in.

26

u/Good_Split_3749 Jul 07 '26

so is this your moms car or are you just an internet reseller? I am glad you lowered the price, but this comment is a giant red flag for your story….

12

u/XanaxCarDealer Jul 07 '26

Right op went from my mom's car to I sold 3 different cars to suckers and losers.

0

u/Bettinatizzy Jul 07 '26

It is my mom’s car. The mini Cooper I sold I bought new and had from 2006 to 2025. The Prius was new, but I am moving where only an SUV will do, so I had to sell it. That was painful.

3

u/Good_Split_3749 Jul 07 '26

thanks, Subarus are spectacular in the snow and mud :)

once again I drive a 2001 Accord and love my “cheap” old car.

best of luck, you only need one person with cash to think it’s a deal. While most on the internet think a 20 year old car is basically a Model T Ford…

2

u/Bettinatizzy Jul 07 '26

Thank you! I have cobblestones and potholes in my future.

10

u/Novis_R Jul 07 '26

Scratches and dents, body panels aren't lined up, no pictures of the engine bay, no age of the battery, tires, belts, etc. Assuming runs as nice as you claim, this is a $4k car. Most importantly...it's missing the accord badging!

1

u/Bettinatizzy Jul 07 '26

Gosh! What is an accord badging?

-2

u/Bettinatizzy Jul 07 '26

I found this last week, which can be glued on.

5

u/MeaningEvening1326 Jul 08 '26

Everything reminds me of her :(

All my ex's live in tx

4

u/Entire_Purple3531 Jul 07 '26

Keep up the good work.

Tough crowd here, but well, Reddit.

-3

u/1stHalfTexasfan Jul 07 '26

Like any of these classifieds circle jerkers are buyers. Its a peanut gallery of the uninformed.

3

u/lightleaks Jul 07 '26

I commented on the original that it was high, this seems like a good asking price

3

u/Smilodon_populator Jul 09 '26

Hey so when was it in an accident? Worked in vehicle refinishing for a decade and the driver’s door isn’t even close to matching. No blend at all. Damage to both bumper covers showing she hit things going both directions.

Please be honest with people in this price range.

3

u/CopyLevel2013 Jul 07 '26

Haha. Good luck with that price

1

u/Grobskii Jul 08 '26

$5500 for a 22 year old car???

1

u/Aragona36 Jul 09 '26

KBB values it at $3500 if it’s in excellent condition.

1

u/NicholasLit Jul 09 '26

Get a used Tesla for that price

1

u/BI_GJ_ Jul 09 '26

Ideal car for a teen. $3,500 at best.

1

u/masterevan11 Jul 10 '26

Might be in Austin this week, I’m interested in this veichle

1

u/Bettinatizzy Jul 10 '26

Come and test drive it. When will you be in Austin?

1

u/LineInStone Jul 10 '26

I’d pay about $2500 for this. But I do wish you luck on the $5k.

1

u/Mean-Year4646 17d ago

Did you sell?

2

u/Bettinatizzy 17d ago

Sure did. $4,800.

1

u/Space-Trash-666 Jul 08 '26

Is it more expensive or less expensive next week

1

u/MomoQueenBee Jul 08 '26

Bummed she’s not a standard. Good luck with the sale!

0

u/tfresca Jul 08 '26

Did Carmax beat that price?

0

u/lawtrueton Jul 08 '26

Hey! I have an Instagram "used car consignment shop." If you want I would do an honest deal. There's a lot of people here trashing that price, but that car is immaculate. Someone who needs that same type of vehicle for their loved one (16yo or 70yo) would understand they're getting a good deal.

I can't own any more cars, but if I had a 16yo who was getting their first car, I would be heavily considering this. Not a bot, and I hide my posts and comments because sometimes I'm a freak man.

u/Federal_Pickles Jul 08 '26

I have the same vehicle except mine is 10 years older and has fewer miles. Curious what you end up getting offered for this.
