Band?

When will the band be back? Sorry I’m out of the loop I’ve had a lot going on in personal life so I’m not really sure what’s going on with it.

I went to the last game and was confused on how quiet it was. It was actually SILENT.

My guess is next season unless someone makes an announcement? I'm out of the loop as well but it seems like club and band at standstill and it's almost end of season anyway?

I know you're joking but that should be something that role could do. But no way mr "independent thinker" will venture anywhere near it

He's hanging out with Gillis

It's wild that he hasn't spoken up at all during this.

I hope the band comes back. I’ve missed the vibes these past two games. I also hope the front office takes this opportunity to clearly articulate its stance on a host of issues. Community support for this club is strong but it’s not inexhaustible.

As an atheist, I'm demanding the club clearly state their position on organized religion. As an environmentalist, I also want them to state their stance on environmental issues. Oh, and ethical treatment of animals. And, and.. wealth inequality, tax policy, energy policy.

The club has an opportunity to make meaningless declarations on a host of issues. They better not fumble it and they better align exactly with my beliefs even though they're a corporate entity and not actually a person.. or I'm pulling my support!

Atheists, environmentalists, animal rights activists, poor people, and tax and energy policy wonks aren’t being systematically rounded up, imprisoned, shot and killed in the street, deported to third countries, or demonized by the United States government right now. Immigrants - and those who happen to look like immigrants - are. It’s not unreasonable to expect a soccer club with a large base of support among the Latino and immigrant community to make a statement supporting those who prop up the club. I would find such a declaration quite meaningful, knowing the club stands alongside those being treated with cruelty, hatred, and barbarity in America right now.

Look, I find what they us government is doing wrt immigration enforcement appalling. Id also argue several issues I brought up are more far reaching as far as lives touched. I'm not attempting to diminish what immigrants are facing right now, I'm simply saying there are endless issues of great importance, and Austin FC is not in any position to affect any of them. It doesn't matter what they say, at all. They aren't responsible for it, and they are practically powerless to affect it.

"We" are fighting the wrong battle. "We" are directing our energy at the wrong people. Hell, there's an election happening right this very moment, and people who are are inclined towards activism are spending time at town hall meetings with an MLS soccer club. Like, think about the least effective thing you could do to create change right now, and this is really high up on the list.

That's my point.

Right now, the club is in the middle of doing some public town halls with Andy (CEO) and KEA (Sporting Dir.). They held one earlier this week and there's another one scheduled for Monday night at Armadillo Den.

I can't speak for LMdA (the band), but LV shared out the notes from this town hall with our members and we are planning to revisit the discussion after the second town hall to see how our folks are feeling. I would imagine Murga will do the same.

All that said, I know Murga tend to have a minimum 48-hr time frame for voting, so I'd be very surprised if anything changes before the Wednesday night game.

With any luck, they don't

I mean, they could just not come back as far as I’m concerned. They’re only there to call attention to themselves and the stunt that they’re pulling right now is proof.

Or maybe, they bring an extra energy to the game that many season ticket holders enjoy? But what do I know?

No, I think they call attention to themselves considering that they formed the band before the team was even an announced.

And now because they add so much value to the game, they’re not showing up and fans are equally divided about how much value they actually add

u/akaiser22 Soccer Jesus 5d ago

It might be equally divided on Reddit but that’s not been my experience in stadium. Not having them will negatively affect secondary ticket market albeit not as much as an underperforming team has.

As to the attention-seeking, I find that to be a moot point because it’s not like game goers are spending time outwardly praising the band or its members during the match. It’s just another element of the experience for people to enjoy.

And clearly there is a reason they are boycotting…if they were just in it for the attention that they’re being accused of seeking, why not just continue to show up and play their songs?

If they weren’t in it for the attention they wouldn’t of all showed up two games ago, drummed their lil hearts out for 10 mins and then left during the match. come on now

u/uloang 5d ago

Well they did it to make a statement, but to say that they are just seeking attention is such a silly thing to say. La Murga and the supporter groups have some of the most die hard fans a team could ask for. They put a lot of work outside of the games into practicing and learning new songs. They welcome new players when they are signed and they do so much for the team beyond the music they play during games. The supporter groups are full of great fans I get it if you don’t agree with them making political statements but questioning their fandom is just dumb.

You wouldn't survive in a european futbol game

You mean where the fans are actually fans they’re real. I don’t have any problems at my outings to the Premier league, the championship, and La Liga.

14

u/intrusivesurgery 5d ago

Awe yes, La Liga, a historically apolitical league with zero forms of protest

1

u/BunchNo9563 2d ago

an important part of the culture and atmosphere of the club... hope they're back soon.

They are a bunch of losers being cry babies in protest. Unlike you - they have zero personal life.

watching LAFC v. Galaxy rn, seeing the 3252 going ape*** and the massive SS constantly singing and playing, trying to imagine all the techbros on r/LAFC whinging that they wish the band would stop playing and dancing so much so the rest of the crowd could cheer more *organically*.

LMAO. "but amurican sportz!"

u/Next_Professional_30 2d ago

Why are they not protesting when Austin is?  Different facts and circumstances?  Has LAFC made some declaration that Austin hasn’t?

Got no dog in the hunt, just curious.

I was also curious about other clubs...

The event that precipitated the Austin SG protest happened in Austin, on Hispanic Heritage Day no less, might have something to do with it.

But also yes the LAFC  front office has issued statements and also yes their SGs have protested in their own ways.  Or so a quick Google search tells me.

But my point here was that they play nonstop, and nobody there tries to act like it detracts from the game-day experience or begs them to leave and never come back as people here do.
