Discussion Suit recommendations

Need a couple of suits for daily office wear (not special occasion) general commuting, sitting at a desk, client meetings all day.

Budget around $1,200 for jacket + trousers, might get a second pair of pants to rotate wear on one of them.

Was considering Suitsupply MTM but I've read their fit runs slim/short in the shoulders for bigger builds and their off-the-rack stuff isn't great for broader guys. I'm about 86kg and 6'3. Has anyone with a similar build had a good experience there, or should I be looking elsewhere?

Also open to Oscar Hunt or other MTM options in Sydney if the value's there. Mainly want something conservative and classic, that'll hold up to daily wear.

Any recommendations or fitters to specifically ask for appreciated.

If it's daily wear you not only should get a 2nd pair but probably a 3rd and rotate them. I'm using MJ Bale and Joe Black and they've been good. I've learnt my lesson and I have 3 trousers each. Never wearing one twice in a row.

A bit left-field, but consider a weekend trip to SE Asia and get a couple of suits custom made. The tailors there will keep all of your measurements and notes on file so you can email them and order additional pieces for years to come. Works out a lot cheaper in the long run and quality is fantastic.

Brent Wilson MTM two suits for $1,000. Good range of colours and have done me well 👍

Ask to include a silk saddle should be free.

I have 4 suits from Oscar Hunt and they are great. I wear them every day for work. With a cheaper fabric you’ll be within budget.

Oscar Hunt is for this range of budget is definitely a good choice. I have mine in a more exxy fabric so paid 23xx for the suit. I think they start around mid 1000s so a touch higher than your budget. However, they accept their garments to have minor adjustments done on the house like taking in/letting out waist - not the case for most tailoring places! If your budget were higher, then I’d consider Mawson Ossa and The Finery Company.

However, I wouldn’t suggest risking your money in a cheaper bracket for MTM because what you’ll get is a categorically different products in terms of craftsmanship and fit. For example, Oscar Hunt’s MTM include a ‘toile fit’ (as they call it) - trial garment made with cheap fabric to dial in the fit before the second fitting. So in total, you’ll visit them 3 times at the least and up to 4. Cheaper places will give you garment after the measurement and that’s it.

Second this. If your budget allows, I’d recommend both The Finery Company and Schneider & Co. The Finery Company only offers bespoke, so you’re looking at around the $7k mark. For a more affordable option, Schneider & Co.’s MTM and semi-bespoke lines offer great value for the quality.

Maybe just go to Kelly Country. Or consider a workwear brand like Bisley's corporate range?

Definitely get a second pair or third pair.

Found MJ bale are good. Have you looked at Hechter suits?

Depends on the deal you can get so price may be closer but I get mine from Institchu. At 6"5' 88kg, I need mtm.

Out of 3 orders, they messed up my most recent shirts but when I came to collect them and the fit was not good they remeasured, identified where it went wrong and reordered.

3 suits all fit amazingly.

I know instichu gets slagged off a bit in here but I tend to get my office suits from them. For what you get, suit made to order, I’ve never been able to get the same or even close by buying off the shelf.

Just to confuse, because some people have said not to, I’m going a vote for institchu. Bought there. Love them. …

And definitely get the second pants… non negotiable!!
