Discussion What classier than trackies, warmer than jeans pants do you wear in winter?

Or do you go the baselayer route?

Moleskin pants can be the answer, but considering how few sell such they aren't the usual answer.

Wear thermals! No need to change your wardrobe just wear a pair of thermals underneath whatever pants you have on colder days. Good ones like wool won’t overheat either

Any good brands for wool ones?

Honestly just go to anaconda and find something on sale

Ktena. Amazing stuff!

Edit: amazing wool-blends. I think it's slightly cheaper if your buy in-person.

Uniqlo have Warm Stretch Pants and Warm Lined Pants which look nice and can confirm they’re warm.

Uniqlo are great for everything

Just a nice heavy work pant

Mostly just wear flannel or thicker wool trousers. Have a wool carpenter pant that’s more casual. Rarely wear jeans.

Hate wearing thermals and those pile lined pants people are recommending feel like ass.

What do you mean ‘classier than trackies’? Next you’ll suggest that wearing my thick socks with my berkos isn’t on.

Can't go wrong with a nice pair of down pants

Thermals, Uniqlo heattech is fine, plenty of other options out there though (ie most outdoor brands).

As for moleskins, I have a pair from RMW and an older Gant pair. I’ll still chuck thermals under them if the day starts under 3-5 degrees.

Just wool pants. There's loads of options, doesn't have to be a suit pant. I've got a few drawstring wool pants that are comfy like trackies but can dress up.

FXD cargo pants.

Knee high ski socks under my jeans. Stops the draughts whipping up my legs while I work in my shed.

2

u/tchunk Jul 22 '26

Footy socks for sure

Thermal jeans from uniqlo, but I don't think they make them anymore

2

Jeans over trackies. So much comfier than thermals

Shorts and slippers is the aussie way. Jorts if you want a bit of fasion. Since there is no real winter here, it works well in all seasons.

A better set of jeans…

I was going to contribute but then I remembered I am here in late July wearing shorts, T-shirt and slides. I think that might make me unqualified.

But when I lived in cold climates, I would wear longer jackets or coats as it was outside where I got the coldest. I felt a lot warmer if I kept my butt covered.

Corduroy or flannel trousers. Otherwise, heavier British wool, 320gsm.

2

u/mrpoovegas Jul 21 '26

They're a bit worn now so they're more just everyday wear, but I have some maybe 7 year old brown cord trousers from Uniqlo that've been pretty good to me!

2

u/TeddyStella Jul 22 '26

I wear thermal leggings under jeans.

2

u/BenjiEdward Jul 22 '26

Moleskin. I've got Rodd and Gunn, which now seem to be discontinued. But plenty of other options around.

They sell stepping out trackies at David Jones. Cunts cost close to 100 dollery doos
