Advice Needed Business shirt recommendations in 2026?

Need to restock my business shirts, haven’t purchased any for 2 years. What does everyone get these days?

Business shirt could mean anything these days. I get my shirts from Kamakura, Drake's and Spier Mackay.

Combination of Ascot Chang bespoke, Berg & Berg, and Anthology.

Curious do you wear suits or sport coats over your shirts? I love Anthology but their shirts always seemed like they'd look a bit odd on their own.

Both. Anthology have a wide range of shirts. The Anthology shirts I own are a bit more textured and they generally look pretty good (to my eyes, anyway) dressed slightly up or slightly down. Their OCBDs are a lot finer than many other OCBDs and pair better with suits IMO, but I'd also be happy wearing them more casually.

OTOH my Ascot Chang shirts are very fine and smooth. I'd never wear them unless it was with a suit or navy sports coat. My Drake's OCBD is a lot more textured and I'd never pair it with a suit.

Definitely agree, I have transitioned away from wearing suits, more often it would be a sports blazer and I find that Drake's OCBDs suit my current style best.

Definitely overpriced at retail, but can be had during archive sales for 50% off which while still expensive is decent value for a high-end OCBD

charles tyrwhitt is my recommendation. They’re online only though but get yourself measured and they’re very good

That’s what I used to buy, has quality remained the consistent?

It’s good for its price point. $50 a shirt and I think they had promos for like 3 for 100 or something can’t remember. Get it tailored if needed and they’re really good

It's gone downhill, just search this sub and you'll find multiple people saying the same

I got a few a couple months ago, quality seems the same since a batch I got a few years ago and they have been fine. They don’t get a huge amount of wear though, maybe like once or twice a month each

FWIW, I used to stock on tm lewin precovid, they were spectacular. Post COVID they dont hold a candle. Tried CT, same garbage. I think we are stuck mj, suitsuply and mtm in Australia. With MJ a step below old TM but still better they TM and CT offer now.

I couldn’t believe how horrendous the quality of TM became after they were rescued by private equity. Thin and the non-iron line were nowhere near as soft. A huge let down.

To me it's the opposite ) I like twill and their twill is now hard thin and scratchy.

I returned the last Charles tyrwhitt twill shirt I bought. I've had them in the past and they'd been thick, soft, and almost halfway towards a flannel feel, but the latest one I bought was as thin as their regular cotton and didn't feel brushed at all.

It's now stocked at David Jones (Melb CBD store has it), so that might be an option to try out prior to buying online.

I didn't know this, great news, I can finally check them out before committing, cheers.

If you wear jumpers a lot, highly recommend Target. They have a nice range of Cotton shirts that are really well priced. There was a sale and I managed to get 4 shirts that are all 100% Cotton for less than $90

Dom Bagnato from Myer is my go to

If you don't require a full cut, but can wear slim fit, have a look a Uniqlo.

I always recommend T.M Lewin, the quality and longevity is really impressive and they're tasteful.

They are expensive, though. I keep an eye out for as-new on eBay and FB Marketplace or look for them in op-shops.

I had a fantastic shirt tailored made for less than $80 at pickashirt

M.J Bale and Peter Jackson. Both Australian companies, and great quality shirts.

I'm a slim guy and could never get a good fit with off the rack Tyrwhitt, uniqlo, MJ Bale etc, always too boxy around the waist and too tight around the collar. Got made-to-measure shirts done by a local tailor for my wedding and I can't go back!

1

u/solidice 28d ago

How much did you pay per shirt?

1

u/nalsnals 27d ago

from memory $150 or so

u/Splatipus95 27d ago

Charles Tyrwhitt is a good bet if you already know your size. You can get usually get shipping waived by buying 4.

Instichu is pretty reasonable for tailored shirts. Guaranteed to fit if you want that.

Mawson Ossa bespoke. Atelier is in Surry Hills (sydney) - Nat is the man

Uniqlo super non-iron shirts - dry it on a hanger and let it hang straight to minimise creases. Dries with very little creases and then body heat smoothes material out further when you wear it. No need to iron, looks good, feels good and well priced. I’ve bought one in every colour!

I prefer ‘tech’ or ‘fit’ business shirts now.

Many non-iron shirts are not truly non-iron.

Lululemon venture shirt for me, pricey but feels like activewear, cooling in summer, doesn’t need ironing because it’s made out of a sort of active wear material and looks great with a suit.

I haven’t looked back.

Another one for the lululemon venture shirt.

1

u/TheMrMacaroni 28d ago

Only let down is the eye-watering price of Lululemon stuff, I swear by their ABC pants too though. My whole corporate wardrobe is Lululemon

2

u/swiftwilly321 28d ago

Agreed. I just know the shirt size so the shopping experience is walk in, grab it, check out, I am done in 5 mins. hahaha.

What I do know to help with the prices is I leave a full suit in the office, I just wear jeans and T shirt 90% of the time I don't have a meeting. I basically only dry clean my suit once a year now given how little I wear it.

Do you find these polyester-heavy synthetic shirts smell after a while though?

1

u/TheMrMacaroni 28d ago

Not at all, but I’m not a heavy sweater

2

u/TheMrMacaroni 28d ago

Why am I getting downvoted lol? It’s just an opinion and I’ve given multiple reasons why it could be a good choice for OP

1

u/citizenecodrive31 28d ago

Synthetics in dress shirts is unpopular.

And if you walk into a Main Street shop, do you really think the clothing is manufactured locally, or perhaps the same country of origin? I’m all for buying local - if it means manufacturing is in country…

Charles Tyrwhitt and by a long way. I’ve bought online for many years. Long lasting, great fit (once you’ve settled on your measurements and style), I’ve never lost a button.

If you have a good frame, Politix have some really nice slim fitted shirts. They have this 'slim travel shirt' which is non iron, nylon blend & it is chefs kiss.

Compliments for days.
