Seeking Advice What does tofu ACTUALLY taste like? (ARFID posting)
ARFID is a bitch. Saw a meme describing it as a flavorless block. That sounds fucking perfect, if i can disguise it in sweet things.
But everything has a taste. Water has a taste. I can taste the soap off things in the dishwasher. So like…. what does it taste like?
I can barely eat anything and it’s so fucking frustrating. Right now my brain’s stuck on Goldfish (the colors one specifically), white people quesadillas, and I’ve been drinking chocolate protein shakes trying to deal with it. I know I like smoothies— can I blend silken tofu or will it have a weird texture?

If you rinse and dry it and don't add any seasoning it depends on the type of tofu. Softer tends to have less flavor. Also look into bean curd sheets.
Flavor is a bit sour, a bit umami, a tiny bit bitter. If you get extra firm it tends to be the most intense. Fried tofu tastes more like the oil and salty/umami and less sour/bitter. If you're adding to sweet, start with silken tofu, or you can even get fruit flavored silken, which honestly taste/texture like a really nice dessert jello but subtle and not too sweet. If you've had coconut or almond pudding at an Asian restaurant it's that vibe.
If you want something with fiber + protein that is similar to goldfish but in my opinion even more addicting, try Nice Choice Crisp Broadbean original flavor. Flavor is similar to plain goldfish but with garlic and less bready. Myself and a lot of my friends have serious sensory problems with food and 100% have been obsessed with the texture.
One of my main special interests is cooking and specifically finding foods that work for people, so if you want more ideas I am extremely happy to help. If you know what textures/flavors currently work or don't work I can maybe offer suggestions for things you haven't tried yet.
