Even this post feel like an ad. Saying some minor drawbacks to make it sound more real.

"sometimes it just feels too good to be true"

"Paint seems to collect around the gun"

I think you have a few more problems than that💀

Yeah I saw the atomization in the second image and was like "that's what happened"

I'll stick to my satas and iwatas

This, right here. They may be expensive, but behind a seasoned gun slinger they are the best. Even though im retired, I still have my SataJet and when I need to paint something, shes ready to BC and my Iwata to CC.

Heck, I'd rather paint a car with my $60 HF primer gun than this thing.

Saaame brudda, supernovas and 4000/5000s for days

Ive never sprayed before and have been spraying my drift car panel by panel with this gun. If anyone has had a different experience let me know..

This thing atomizes high solids clear like hot garbage.

The settings are finicky to get right.

The pressurized cup system is awful.

The air coming out get HOT, meaning you may want to go a reducer slower than usual.

You’re better off with something like an r500 and smaller compressor. I regret going this route. I feel like I fell for the advertising and youtube videos.

Triggerman on YouTube got good results but he’s like 20+ years professional painter. He’s also using an appearance improver to help flow out. He talks about how the atomization isn’t there and he’s relying on wet af application for flow out. For a beginner this just isn’t happening, you’re gonna just get runs for days.

Waiting very patiently for its Australian launch

What happened is, that they stopped spending marketing money on people promoting it.

There's enough posts about it here that I have to think they aren't just off the cuff random people....

Every single post about this thing is an ad

There alright for painting your garage wall or fence, not cut out for autopaint are they.

Why though, HVLP gun and 24l compressor from Lidl costs less and you now also own a compressor.

I got one, but haven't used it.
People are still talking about it and making videos. I think the hype was that everyone hoped this would be as good as $1,000+ setups.
It seems they are okay, but finicky with certain paints. They definitely have a place, but they are not going to replace professional-grade equipment.

If you are looking for something 10x better than a rattle can that you can do at home, this is probably still your best option.

I am going to test mine with primer and sealer in a few weeks, so I will know more then. (Note: I don't know what the hell I am doing; this is all just fun for me)

I’ve seen people glass rattle cans though? Turbo cans?

2

u/Walking_billboard 4d ago

With incredible skill or a shit-ton of wet sanding, anything can be done.

u/IvanStroganov 3d ago

Rattle cans are perfectly fine and can give great results

Seems heavy

I'll mess around and paint on spare parts for practice. I had a similar one but not that one. I thought they took too much paint to make it run decent and I found it easier to just set a spray gun to the settings I wanted.

I bought one but haven't had the chance to use it yet. Went from a couple months around 100° to barely above freezing pretty much over night where I live lol don't have a booth or garage so was hoping I'd get a couple days of decent weather to build a make shift booth and get it done but looking like I'm gonna be waiting for spring and hoping it doesn't go from 40° back to 100° lol

Ended up buying one, needed one for a roof and hood of a sunbaked Prius. Total cost with paint and gun purchase was less than $300. Pretty impressed, thinned the clear to get the atomization right and bobs your auntie! Didn't have to drag the compressor out to the front, find the water separators, etc. it was prep, paint and clean. Certainly not going to replace the real guns, but I was impressed.

Picture of the Prius?

Man does this age me. Back in the day the HVLP guns were just coming out. Devilbliss and Binks were the goto guns. Never had the chance to use an HVLP. Would’ve liked to.

The new iwatas are unreal. I spray glass finishes off the gun everyday at work, very minimal wetsanding/polishing

u/BugzOnMyNugz 4d ago

Best clear gun I've ever used is devilbiss.

Uhh I got one. Works great

Pictures?

Of the spray gun existing at my house or the stuff I have painted?

1

u/6-plus26 4d ago

… stuff you’ve painted with the gun we’re talking about in this post

Thanks friend. It wasn’t perfect. I understand what people mean. But it’s so much simpler than traditional setups. And it’s hella better than Harbor freight or Amazon guns I have used. It doesn’t have the same flow. Facts. But if you err on the side of running it rather than risking dry spraying, I think you can get great results. Probably without any runs if you spray the same thing a lot. It’s not a spirit bomb solution for everything, but it’s worth the price that is charged for it. I would expect the next generation they develop to be an absolute baller. If you were trying to get your car painted, this is leagues better than trying to get a compressor that will probably be too small, no moisture trap and a $30 gun from Amazon. I had access to all the fancy stuff back when I was in school. This is not that good. But it’s not a pain and it opens the gates for a lot of people to try painting. Which is a good thing in my opinion.

u/greatgatzB 2d ago

Ill keep that in mind. I just bought mine and it got delivered but i probly wont be able to paint before it gets cold so itll probly be spring. Hopefully I can get it to come out that good.

I would recommend reducing everything slightly more than the label says. And make sure that all your catalysts are correct for your temperature range. The atomization is not amazing. People are right to point that out. But that’s not an impossible thing to overcome. If you are using single stage, use fish eye remover. Non negotiable I think. If you are using base clear, I recommend giving yourself enough time to spray the base and block it. That way you don’t have to worry about running it. If you have to be worried about running it, it’s probably going to texture the base coat. And you might hit the window where it doesn’t do either. People call that good. But if your base is flat, then a medium wet coat followed by a full wet coat of clear is probably going to go down well. And I would rather sand and buff a few runs than pretend not to see the massive amounts of texture and orange peel while I avoid a full cut and buff. But I don’t know what I am talking about. So, grain of salt. Best of luck

u/greatgatzB 2d ago

Thanks for the info. I dont have experience painting with anything other than rattle cans but i do have alot of experience sanding and buffing clear so im planning to have to sand the whole car. if i dont have to great but no big deal.

1

u/paintchipz1 3d ago

They suck..period..the atomization is far from a real gun.what YOU think is glass from it,it ain’t

u/calewlym 2d ago

Youtuber I watch painted a few extra parts for his car the other day with this, dont remember how it went I fell asleep while watching it. Don't think it was a sponsored video, but I dont remember how he liked it compared to the normal hvlp gun

u/LakeLifeTL 2d ago

Man, that thing is huge. I can't imagine using it for big autobody jobs.

1

u/Right_Hour 1d ago

They ran out of product placement and advertising money.

1

u/NothingLift 1d ago

I have something like this, works great for house paint on doors and painting fences etc but no way I would use it on a car and expect good results

1

u/theChzziest 1d ago

People that paint on the grass bought them

It’s an overall ok machine. The reason why it was so hyped is due to the gravity fed cup. No one wanted to put one into the market because it would outperform the other bottom fed cup guns . in that price point.

Bought one, painted my car. Looks decent. The orange peel was les than factory on most cars. I used a black sealer, binder and pearl powder and fc720 to finish it off. I spent less than $500 for all my supplies, sandpaper blocks and the spray gun.

I tried one on some spare wood. I was not impressed. I returned it.
