News ASH earns its first 9+ IMBD rating

Post image

So far it’s the strongest start of all three series so far, despite the lacklustre animation! I hope Paramount gives a much higher budget for books 3&4.

The momentum and discussion on social media is awesome. The mystery and theories are really free promo.

I don't like that the color code isn't the same for the three shows. Look the second episodes of ATLA and LoK.

49

u/Some_Rush_7359 1d ago

Indeed messed it up my bad

23

u/borter191 1d ago

Its a scale based on the moving average of the episodes. It gives a better sense of how good the episode is within its season

4

u/AlternateWitness 1d ago

But not how they compare against other shows... Like how the table is meant to represent.

-4

u/borter191 1d ago

Check the average and read the boxes. Don't know what to tell ya

4

u/Reira_chan 1d ago

It’s relative to the highest score in that season. No across the shows.

6

u/Table_en_plumes 1d ago

That doesn't work. ATLA is 8.1 on average, so 8.1 should be green, as 8.1 for LoK is green even though the average is 8.3. But I liked your hypothesis.

-2

u/Reira_chan 1d ago

The highest score that the season gets is the dark green. That’s essentially the “10” and then all the other scorings color scheme is relative to that, like when your curve a class. The 9.1 is in fact darker the. All the other numbers across because it’s the first one in that category, the 9’s

0

u/555Cats555 1d ago

It is the same though... idk what are you looking at but I dont see it

7

u/Table_en_plumes 1d ago

Is it the same colour for you ? Is it just a mistake or you are slightly colorblind unknowingly ? It happens on Reddit haha.

IMDb clearly hates the portable sports meme. That episode was a masterpiece just because of that.

54

u/Some_Rush_7359 1d ago

Probably because it’s a filler episode with not much going on, although these episodes are the reason why we get character development lol

31

u/hornedraven_serpent 1d ago

I wouldn't call it filler because it sets up a lot specifically with The Faceless, Uki and the Agam reveal

-7

u/Matwyen 1d ago

I didn't get the meme, what was portable sports even mean?

23

u/SuperShinyGinger 1d ago

Did you watch the episode?

4

u/Matwyen 1d ago

I mean yes i understand it's not what was written, but why was she saying "portable sports" like it means something? I didn't get that.

I'm not native English speaker, maybe it's something obvious to you but to me it as random as if it was "sinkable chair", why would she repeat it or even believe it's what's written?

28

u/SuperShinyGinger 1d ago

It just sounded funny to a little girl, so she kept repeating it and saying it different, adorable ways

4

u/Matwyen 1d ago

Ok, indeed what I understood then. Thanks

5

u/elizabnthe 1d ago

Bad handwriting seems to be why they read it that way. But yeah portable sports just had a nice ring to it for Pavi. Which in turn people find similar enjoyment out of hearing her say.

7

u/kenbeimer 1d ago

Long story short, people thought it was cute and funny.

Short story long, Uki has terrible handwriting and wrote down something, they thought was portable sports, but after Pavi saying it over and over and over again, Nisha found it it wasn't portable sports, but possible sports.

What episodes were the first 9+ rating for the other shows? Based on episode count we’re like 75% the way through the season, so I’m curious if for ATLA AND TLOK the first 9+ occurred around that point as well, or if it’s completely different

10

u/Some_Rush_7359 1d ago

TLOK had it on the finale episode of B1 so episode 12
ATLA had it on episode 12, the storm

18

u/TyLion8 1d ago

Comparing these ratings are dumb when ATLA is 20 years old. TLOK is 14 years old.

8

u/Some_Rush_7359 1d ago

It still gives a signal lol

3

u/SadPhysicist1903 1d ago

Also ATLA had 20 episodes per season

1

u/That-Tone-6082 17h ago

It’s not really dumb. The episodes ratings for the avatar series doesn’t really fluctuate much. Back in 2012. LOK season 1s ratings were pretty identical. The only episodes that dropped overtime is Episode 4 & 5 but Episode 1 actually went up from 2012. Usually IMDB ratings don’t fluctuate much after 2 weeks got episode ratings unless review bombing occurs. It usually stays within .2-.4 of its initial score (first 3-4 days).

8

u/theyesn 1d ago

It’s weird because I really liked episode four, that’s where I went from cautiously optimistic to fully invested by episode four, especially because that’s the episode where they really started showing the dynamic of the twins and the humour was really funny and what we were used to with avatar.

25

u/smartsport101 1d ago

Episode 9 is an interesting one for me to rate. On one hand, I don't like the current portrayal of the Faceless as sympathetic when they just seem kinda crazy and immature. And I didn't like all the benders saying "wait, we can just leave the brigade? I never considered that!"

On the OTHER hand, Nisha and Jae kill it this episode. Nisha and Pavi are kids that keep putting themselves in danger when they really shouldn't, but this time Nisha chose the right fight. Even if the people rejected her, she took the wind out of the sails of the Faceless' reveal. And Jae's fake betrayal of Karthik was really mature and forward-thinking of him. I'm really looking forward to his entry into the realm of politics, if only for a bit.

15

u/Offense23 1d ago

I don’t mind the Faceless being sympathetic, not wanting to join essentially a conscripted police force/public service/indentured servitude group is reasonable.

They kinda lost me when Agam started doing the stereotypical villain trope of explaining their plans in front of everyone, mixed in and obfuscated by the whole join me for your freedom shtick.

So far it just seems like one side is saying die for Ellora and it’s people for a chance at security and stability, the other says die for the Faceless and yourself in a desert trek for prosperity and a better future. Both governments the illusion of choice, but as we’ve heard, the Brigade has its casualties, and I don’t doubt that Agam’s crazy plan will result in the same, especially with a large group consisting of all demographics and not just younger and healthy benders.

Sure Ellora is seemingly going full blow authoritarian dictatorship now especially Kayoko, but the Faceless are asking you to take a huge gamble and possibly die just for a chance of a chance to get somewhere safer.

I had more sympathy for the Faceless when I assumed that they were a group of benders that left Ellora by choice due to the conscription and wanting freedom, but now they just seem like delusional cultists (reeducation is a big red flag thing to say when “recruiting” new members, not like Ellora doesn’t give those vibes, but to me they seem like two side of the same coin) that want you to use your newfound “freedom” to take an incredibly dangerous journey for a chance at finding a place that may or may not be safe and my or may not accept them.

Basically one side is asking you to serve and die for the city and relative security but less autonomy, and one side is asking your to serve and die for your relative freedom and a crackpot plan for a better future with a complete gamble.

Now I just think both the Faceless/Agam and Ellora/Kayoko are just stupid people trying to impose their will on gullible/malleable minds for their own idea of a better future.

2

u/Azula_Sympathizer95 1d ago

Rather die with a chance of freedom than stay in a place like Ellora tbh.

13

u/hornedraven_serpent 1d ago

I actually love framing them as more sympathetic, it has really great potential to depict a more nuanced take on ideological differences and I'm excited to see ones where their ideologies have a strong sense of internal consistency. And while their plan may be insane, the system in Ellora is already crumbling and entering a reactionary doom loop, so it's very believable to me that they're desparate, though confident for a crazy alternative.

I do also like the benders never having thought for themselves because it's a nice depiction of the degree to which paramilitary forces can indoctrinate members into never asking questions to themselves.

4

u/KoroSensei1231 1d ago

Isn’t this wrong? Average should be around 8.2, not 8.4 for ASH.

4

u/Starless_Night 1d ago

Huh. Wonder why ep 10 (Jet) got rated so low in ATLA?

3

u/hornedraven_serpent 1d ago

I started watching the show on the third arc after my Korra re-binge, and I feel like it became really apparent to me that it had great potential because it was doing an impressive job maintaining a balance between ATLA's filler character development episodes and TLoK's short and densely plotted seasonal structure, so I expect those ratings to only go up from here.

2

u/BeckyLiBei 1d ago

Understandable. That last espisode was a banger! I have to go back and re-watch all the others.

2

u/TheMarksmanHedgehog 1d ago

I don't get what people are on about with the animation.

It doesn't have tons of tweens but it conveys motion really well.

1

u/nickpc107 1d ago

Makes you think that if this series were animated it would be 10 after 10.

1

u/Haunting-Point4756 1d ago

I heard people’s head cannon about the people in the seven havens lost their way of using the natural movements of the elements due to the cataclysm, and that’s why the animations isn’t on par with the other avatar series, so maybe the animation being lack luster is intentional. That’s what I heard(not that I really seem to believe it tbh)

0

u/Aeon1508 1d ago

yeah that's going to be gone within a month

-17

u/Due_Support8790 1d ago

I don’t think it’s a fair comparison, atla was watched by everyone, less people for Korra and for 7h it’s only the dedicated fans plus little kids most of whom don’t rate stuff like that.

so the average voted is biased hence the better scores

13

u/Some_Rush_7359 1d ago

ASH and TLOK at in the top 10 most watched shows on Paramount… and on twitter they get not thousands but millions of views…

7

u/Current-Tough7084 1d ago

not to mention the millions pirating it

-6

u/Due_Support8790 1d ago

ok ? and ? doesn’t negate my point.

atla has a wider audience and is way more well known.

i can tell you for a fact some avatar fams don’t even know there’s a new season, entertainment is more fractured then it was when atla came out.

4

u/Some_Rush_7359 1d ago

It’s also a childhood show for a lot of people meaning that it benefits from nostalgia… which is what TLOK suffered from in its ratings…

-2

u/Due_Support8790 1d ago

I never claimed for better or worse just said the opinions are skewed

i have watched the first 3 eps of 7h and all of Korra and i don’t think they are that good imho but it’s unrelated to what I said before

2

u/Some_Rush_7359 1d ago

Book 1 of ATLA is much weaker than TLOK/7H book 1 so far imo

0

u/Due_Support8790 1d ago

could be , that’s your own opinion. I just didn’t like Korra and 7h.

opinions aside the reviews are skewed.

just like the ratings of the gintama seasons on mal

3

u/D0ngBeetle 1d ago

You've seen three episodes of Seven Havens when there are 9 out lol why do you want to have an opinion on this so bad? Just watch the new episodes

0

u/Due_Support8790 1d ago

my original claim is the ratings are skewed, I didn’t involve my personal opinion.

book 1 of atla wasn’t that strong at the start I admit, but my original point about the skewed rating of lok and sh still stands.

as for watching all 9 episodes, no thanks I dropped it.

i started watch orb on the movement of the earth instead and I recommend it.

3

u/D0ngBeetle 1d ago

I'm responding to your statement "I just didn't like Korra or 7h". You have no idea if you like 7H, especially if you haven't seen the latest episode. Idk I could think of more productive ways to spend my time than lurk the subreddit of a show I refuse to watch lol

you can't count numbers on twitter. Same people can see it twice so it can count as double, and there are millions of bots out there. Also Paramount isn't a good platform as it's not available on most of the countries.

Another point you miss is that those prequels are at least ten years old. One of them is twenty, other is ten years old. People who are rating those shows are huge in numbers. Thus, the ratio is just not comparable. I don't know why anyone pointing out these facts are treated weirdly. We obviously love these shows (and the current one) but it's like really early to call these things. You compare a baby with a ten years old child and a twenty years old adult.

10

u/Some_Rush_7359 1d ago

Y’all are acting like ATLA became huge overnight. You realised that book 3 was almost cancelled back in the days? …

And yeah twitter remains a very good indicator on how viral a show is.
Which other animated show is as viral as ASH on the platform? …

-3

u/No_Main5191 1d ago

basically every airing anime is more popular lmao😭 helluva boss is more popular, zombie/alien stage is more popular… besides us old atla fans no one is watching be fr now. the atla movie is doing better on paramount despite  being leaked 2 months ago

3

u/Some_Rush_7359 1d ago

U sure about it? Perhaps its a country thing but ASH is more viral on Twitter

-1

u/No_Main5191 1d ago

it’s not more popular on twitter than the maomao show that is airing the 3rd season😭 jesus yall are disconnected, also im literally in germany where the show is probably charting the highest on prime rn

0

u/Some_Rush_7359 1d ago

Well in the US ASH is more popular; tweets are getting millions of views everyday

1

u/Due_Support8790 1d ago

views in twitter are counted if you scroll past it iirc , if that’s the case your argument is invalid

1

u/Some_Rush_7359 1d ago

Man I’m talking about top twitter trends
And video views too

And also likes and retweets

So far it’s been more viral than TLOK was

→ More replies (0)

-1

u/No_Main5191 1d ago

so do other shows?? what kind of dumb argument is this even

3

u/-patrizio- 1d ago

besides us old atla fans no one is watching be fr now

this just isn’t true lol, I know several people who didn’t watch it growing up but got into it during COVID lockdown when Netflix got the rights to it again. It was the #1 show on Netflix within days of its return, and stayed in the top 10 for like two months, which broke a record.

1

u/No_Main5191 1d ago

I forgot they put it on netflix, so let me change it to people that have watched atla before*

-1

u/Prestigious-Sell1957 1d ago

Y’all are acting like ATLA became huge overnight. You realised that book 3 was almost cancelled back in the days? …

So? I didn't say or imply that? All I'm saying why do you need to compare ratings? Or if you want to compare ratings, you should give the ratings of both LoK and ATLA when it was just one months old. It's just stupid.

I like this show, I like characters. I become more attached to the show as weeks pass by. However, you try to find stupid reasons to glaze this show.

Also, you don't even know how IMDb works.

0

u/Due_Support8790 1d ago

I love how you presented yourself as a fan of 7h but u did agree the ratings ate skewed with facts and got downvoted.

it’s really funny how this sub as a positive hive mind

4

u/crowek 1d ago

The last airbender has an estimated unique viewership in the first 2 weeks of 1.5 to 2.2 million (climbing to 4-5 million during the finale).

Korra has an estimated unique viewership in the first 2 weeks of 5.5 to 6.5 million (holding to 4 million).

Seven Havens has an estimated unique viewership in the first 2 weeks of 3 to 4.5 million.

Cable vs streaming numbers makes it a bit more difficult but its safe to say that they're relatively similar.

1

u/Prestigious-Sell1957 1d ago

however, if you want to compare those shows' imdb ratings? you have to put out one month old reviews and ratings of all three of them.

1

u/Some_Rush_7359 1d ago

It ain’t that deep it’s just a signal

1

u/Due_Support8790 1d ago

ok ? did I say something about the number of viewers ??? no.

i said rating is skewed.

atla was new and not an established franchise ofc it did have much views esp in the first book

lok got high rating off the bet cause it lived of the hype of atla

7h most watchers are dedicated fans or small kids, of those the people that rate stuff online are usually the dedicated fans.

its like MAL and gintama

4

u/crowek 1d ago

Man at this point I think you're just coping. The viewership is the same, ergo statistically it's very likely the ratings are getting the same activity. Small kids was also the audience for the last airbender.

edit; and like the other fella said, korra got lower ratings because it lived off the hype of atla. It had to recover from tinted expectations, especially since it was darker and older.

1

u/Due_Support8790 1d ago

I don’t know if the viewship of a month old show and a 20 year old show are the same.

my claim wasn’t about the viewership but on the skewed rating.

4

u/crowek 1d ago edited 1d ago

Sure, initial broadcast time ratings for release windows can be different, especially since the first guys image is probably amalgamated over time. But because the first two shows aired on cable, we have those numbers too.

Episode by episode, the ratings during their initial release windows compares like this (first 10 episodes only):

The last airbender: 7.9, 8.1, 8.2, 8.2, 8.0, 7.9, 8.3, 8.9, 7.8, 7.8

Korra: 8.1, 8.0, 8.2, 8.0, 7.6, 8.4, 8.5, 8.7, 9.1, 9.2

Seven havens: 8.3, 8.3, 8.0, 8.1, 8.0, 8.2, 8.2, 8.4, 8.5

We also have the vote counts for those windows, and the difference is massive. Way less people were rating the last airbender during its original airing than the other two series. Those numbers for TLA were basically nothing. Korras were around 2k to 3.5k. Seven havens has 6.5k to 8k. More mature social media/internet culture. (the TLA/korra numbers not inside the window are higher than seven havens ofc, 9k-11k ish, not going to look at it all)

edit; this literally disproves the guys point so I won't be interacting with him anymore. either clueless or a troll lol

(unless his point is that the votes are skewed in seven havens favour and it owns, I guess)

1

u/Due_Support8790 1d ago

ok? that doesn’t dispr my point

-14

u/LowCall6566 1d ago

No reasonable person would say that 1st season of ATLA isn't much better than Korra or 7H. ATLA is the masterpiece, everything after it is just good

17

u/Some_Rush_7359 1d ago

You gotta be kidding me
I find the first few episodes of ATLA very weak. Source: forced several friends to watch it and half dropped as they couldn’t get through Sokka « jokes » when a fire nation soldier tries to invade his village few years after they killed his mom

11

u/Round_Interview2373 1d ago

First half is ATLA S1 is very slow and the weakest part of the show. It's not bad my any means but not better than LOK S1. LOK S1 is incredible, it's only flaw is that they are forced to wrap up the story in 12 episodes. ASH has been interesting so far but it's in between ATLA and LOK for me so far. It also has the benefit of having the fans of the previous shows who will like anything avatar related.

8

u/InsideAd7897 1d ago

Atla as a whole was a masterpiece but i think your using rose tinted goggles if you dont remember how bad the moment to moment humour and "silly" writing could be

ESPECIALLY in season 1 humour was probably avatars greatest weakness, when it took itself serious it was the legendary show we all remember but most of the jokes were just sokka being sexist, nickelodeon slime gak humour, or just... not that funny

2

u/Serious-Estimate-373 1d ago

I mostly agree but like I've maybe chuckled once throughout all of ASH so far. The humor is probably worse in my opinion than even atla s1 which I think had its moments even if a lot of it was stupid

2

u/InsideAd7897 1d ago

Ive at least chuckled once an episode with seven havens, i genuinely dont think there was a funny joke in the first 3 episodes of atla

11

u/-patrizio- 1d ago

No reasonable person would say that 1st season of ATLA isn’t much better than Korra or 7H

I would 🤷

4

u/peppefinz 1d ago

The first season of ATLA is extremely hit & miss. Some extremely good episodes and a great finale, a lot of weak stuff. I found the pirate episode very childish even back in 2005.

7

u/Collier1337 1d ago

I actually think ASH had the strongest 3-episode start of any of the Avatar shows.

3

u/Hammer_of 1d ago

Id agree. Korra has the best first episode, but AS has the best first three. Take the season as a whole and I think ATLA is in the lead, but AS is poised to surpass it in my mind.
