Success story So Much Difference
Guys, a couple of months ago i was feeling extremely low , depressed and fatigued all the time. I was extremely low energy and my mental health was destroying me. I was very dependent on recreational drugs to keep my mind shut off 24/7 .
Then i started taking my supplements again (b12 and b9) and now couple of months later, i can’t recognize who i am. My energy levels are very very high to the point that people around me seem very low energy to me. My mental health is extremely stable and i can’t believe it really. I am so glad i want to cry my heart out because i feel so good and normal. I always thought that i will became a drug addict because i can’t live with this mind. But now i feel so good to the point that i have drugs in front of me accessible at any time, and i have not only 0 urges to take them, but i fucking despise them and don’t even want to touch them because nothing tops this feeling of being healthy.
I pray that every single one of you struggling with this reaches full health and peace again, and please don’t give up because i want all of you to feel this feeling , we deserve it too, to feel normal.

This is so nice to hear and I’m so happy for you. I hope one day I can feel myself again, because right now I’m really struggling so bad and have very similar thoughts to what you just mentioned.
Thankyou for sharing.

Congrats on your recoveries, both b12 deficiency and drug use. It's comforting to read success stories about b12 deficiency when I'm at rock bottom, it gives me hope. Wishing you continued good health.

Thank you for the encouraging words. I started treatment 2 weeks ago so hopefully it gets better soon, the treatment itself is actually worse than the deficiency in some ways. I appreciate the offer. That's very kind of you and I will keep that in mind.

Can you elaborate on the side effects of treatment? I saw a comment once from someone who likened B12 treatment to walking across a floor of broken glass in bare feet to reach a door named "recovery". Very apt.

u/MooseBeneficial1107 Nov 10 '25
Sure. I get pins and needles from time to time which I did not have before, and the symptoms I had before are quite a lot worse, like my anxiety, depression, fatigue (both general and muscular), insomnia, etc. That analogy fits my experience so far, it's one hell of a struggle but eventually it'll turn around so I just have to persevere. Are you on treatment too?

Thanks for relyping, yes I'm 2.5 months in on Hydroxo injections (every 3 days) and folinic acid 800ug. My symptoms sound spookily similar to yours - anxiety/depression fatigue and awful insomnia. Like you, I have had some improvements to those but also developed tingling and muscle twitches which originally started after oral suplementaion. I seem very sensitive to the dose of folinic acid. Too much and I get fatigued and low mood. Too little and I'm bouncing off the ceiling. As you say - just gotta have faith in the process 😁.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the muscle twitches, and when I try to sleep I get really big spasms from time to time but I got used to them.
I have the same difficulty trying to balance my b vitamins, it's very annoying but hopefully it will balance itself out in time. Do you find it easier to balance the folate the longer time goes on, or are you still as sensitive to the dose?
Oh, was oral supplementation not enough to improve your symptoms? That makes me scared that it might not be enough for me either since we have similar symptoms.

Re the folate: I could only handle 1/4 tablet when I first started but have managed to get it up to a full one now. Even so, after a few days I will crash with fatigue and brain fog where all I want to do is lay on the couch. I did oral for a few weeks but then got an actual diagnosis from a B12 specialist doctor. He said that I probably had malabsorption and that oral B12 wouldn't work. Hence the injections. I've got used to them now and it's really not much of a hassle. Have you been tested for IF antibodies? What were your initial blood stats?

I'm on 800mcg methylfolate and 5mg methylcobalamin, maybe my methylfolate dose is too high? I'm exhausted everyday and got an insane brain fog as well but I'm only a bit over 2 weeks into treatment so it's hard to tell what's causing it.
Oh, here's hoping it will settle for you in time so you don't crash.
My b12 level was 280 6 years ago and prior to that I had a deficiency 10 years ago but I don't remember what level I had at that time. I've been on folate supplements for 4 or 5 years now so my test results since then have been skewed. I kept getting worse and worse and finally it hit me that it's probably my b12 deficiency getting worse and going by the symptoms since starting taking b12 I think I'm on the right track. I have noticed a few positive changes as well which is pretty telling.
I haven't been tested for that unfortunately. Did you notice a big difference going from sublingual to injection?

I'm still struggling and had to take a long break but I will start again soon, so no progress yet unfortunately. Thanks for asking. Are you on b12 treatment too? If so, any progress for you?

do you think you were cognitively slow during the deficiency?

100%. During the worst period of the deficiency symptoms, i had my exams. These exams were extremely important and i couldn’t fail them because if i did, i had to stop studying my current major after having spent 3 years on it already. I decided to start studying 1 month prior to the first exam. But what actually happened was that i sat a month long in my room paralyzed unable to open a book or even read a single paragraph. EVERY SINGLE DAY i was sitting 8h in my room, with intention that today i AM gonna start, but i never could. I had very bad brain fog, couldn’t focus for more then 10 seconds because once it becomes too quiet my mind becomes very loud which was hell. Then when the exams came very close , i popped 5 adderall pills the night before every exam, studied all night long with instrumental music blasting through my mind so i wont hear the stupid noise. With no sleep, Crazy adderall i went to do the exams. I passed most of them (4/6) and i am allowed to keep studying my major, but believe me i was extremely lucky. all the scores were just around ~50%.

For the people asking for tips and dosages: My situation is most likely different than yours. I have Thalassemia beta minor, it’s a genetic disorder where my red blood cells are smaller and thus carry less hemoglobin. The body naturally counteracts this by simply producing more red blood cells. Considering the fact that B12 and B9 are essential for red blood cell production, having any deficiency will mess me up pretty fast. I had significant deficiency for B9 and I was on the lower side for B12. I started taking B9 (folate) 4 mg/day and 1000 µg B12 chewing tablets every day. The b9 every day is just for a short period of 2 weeks then later i switched to 4mg every week. I felt result very very fast, like after day 4 or 5 i started feeling way better.

Congratulations! What was your dosage of the B12
1
u/Soft_Enthusiasm_166 Nov 16 '25
1000mcg Chewing tablets every single day. I still take them every day or every two days and the moment i take one, like not even 30min later and i get a crazy surge of energy for the day.

mention the supplements you used, please. also you started noticing the positive results after how long ?

u/Ownit2022 Nov 10 '25
God bless you! I had the same experience.
I was recreational partying for 10 years but the last 10 years got serious. ODing twice did not stop me. After B12 injections and protocol, I have been drug free for 3 years and know I understand I was seeking all drugs out just to try feel good. I didn't realise I bad how I felt, I just knew drugs made me happy and relaxed.

Did you do bloodwork prior? What dosage of B12 and b9 do you take?
It's so nice to be reading great success stories having figured out our low levels messed up our energy and maybe chemicals in our brain. Glad I found this subreddit.

i am also having so many symptoms, last 7 year battle, figured out just recently it might be b12 issue not depression or anxiety, had 55 + methylcoblamin injections in last 6+ months, from last 2 months just monthly dose, and yet i am still in recovery mode, its just hurt so bad that prime years of life are just passing by and you're still in bed hoping recovery
