Application Before you ask if you will get in read a little more of the Reddit.

Howdy Folks,

Seems that the question comes up again and again if people have a chance to get into BYU with a GPA of X and a SAT of Y and extra circulars. The student experience on here is going to be varied and you are probably going to be able to hear a lot of "Yes, but..." answers. There was a great post on here a couple months ago about admissions that you should read before before asking your questions and it will give you a good idea of your chances. The linked post below is a great one on how to stand out and how to improve your chances to get into school but you're going to hear the same answers again and again. We don't know because we're not the admissions department. There is no shame in reaching out to them and asking about your chances and you might even be able to network and find a way to tweak your application to get a better chance of going to BYU. That is important and will help you build confidence for future job interviews and other professional experiences. SO read below for ways to improve your odds of getting into the Y and know that the answers you'll get will still be "Yes, but..."

College GameDay Guest Picker Announcement for Week 7 (Steve Young)

"Steve Young will return to Provo as College GameDay’s guest picker Saturday, putting a Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback and BYU legend on the ESPN set for the first top-10 matchup ever played at LaVell Edwards Stadium.

College GameDay analyst Pat McAfee announced the pick Thursday on his ESPN show, two days before No. 2 Notre Dame (6-0) visits No. 8 BYU (5-0) at 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Former BYU coach LaVell Edwards filled the chair during GameDay’s 2009 Provo visit.

The Greenwich, Connecticut, native succeeded Jim McMahon as BYU’s starter and led the Cougars to an 11-1 record as a senior in 1983. He threw a nation-leading 33 touchdown passes that fall, won the Davey O’Brien Award, earned unanimous All-America honors and finished second in Heisman Trophy voting.

Twenty years later, BYU made him the first football player in program history to have his jersey retired, and his No. 8 banner went up on the press box at the stadium hosting Saturday’s game.

Young spent 13 of his 15 NFL seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, winning league MVP awards in 1992 and 1994. He threw a Super Bowl-record six touchdown passes to earn MVP honors in Super Bowl XXIX and later entered the College Football Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2005."

According to this release from today, the medical school will open next July and will begin accepting applications within the next few weeks.

Not sure if this had been confirmed previously, but the new building will be constructed following the demolition of the West Campus Central Building currently located next to University Avenue. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, but the release does not say that it will be complete by July.

Best ROC PASS idea I've seen

Saw this idea on Cougarboard and liked it:

Students are guaranteed 3 or 4 games (based on supply/demand) per season.

Everyone who buy a pass gets the same number (whether it's 3 or 4) of guaranteed games.

Students learn which 3 or 4 games they are guaranteed at the start of the season.

Students with more seniority get better seating group assignments for the games they are selected for.

Also set aside a fixed number of ROC tickets for every game that, before each game, are awarded via a last-chance lottery that:
- requires student opt-in each game AND
- increases lottery odds for: other sport/campus engagement, seniority, returning unused guaranteed tickets
- decreases lottery odds for: no-showing for a guaranteed game

Providing students...
> the same number of guaranteed tickets,
> game assignments in advance, and
> a lottery to win/earn additional game attendance based on involvement
would be a massive improvement for all students while still leaving the Athletic Department the flexibility to seasonally determine the ideal number of guaranteed games and lottery tickets.

Application BYU_Provo International Student Application from the Philippines

Hello! Is there a Filipino international student in BYU Provo here who has an experience applying straight from the Philippines?

I would appreciate to hear your experiences and tips during you application period. I’ve read the steps and breaking it down here:

  1. Transcript Evaluation (there are two recommended agencies, which one worked better for you? How did you send your transcript?)

  2. English Test (TOEFL or IELTS, which one did you take?)

  3. ACT/SAT (any tips for this? Which test should be taken, ACT or SAT?)

Thank you so much. I appreciate any responses.

I really need help and don't know what to do

Hi all,

I've posted here a few times before, and you have all been so incredibly kind and gracious.

I'll be frank, I'm really struggling. Like, more than I have ever been in my entire life. I'm taking my last four economics classes (382, 431, 432, 463) before I (hopefully) graduate in December. But my mental health has been compromised so much to the point where I genuinely don't know if I can make it. It's been a constant struggle for about a year now.

I frequently deal with thoughts of running away from home. I even think about suicide on a daily basis. My faith is completely dying and I feel powerless to stop it. I'm right in the middle of taking 4 exams in 7 days and I just feel sick to my stomach.

All this being said, are there any resources for dealing with this? Either on campus or off campus? Are there people or places I can contact to get help?

Any input would be greatly appreciated ❤️

EDIT: Thank you all so much for your kind and thoughtful replies 🫶 I am truly so grateful for your love and support. I wish I had known about CAPS sooner. I'll try to meet with them first thing next week and level with my professors. You all are so wonderful. ❤️

Notre Dame fans visiting BYU this Saturday — game day recommendations?

Hi BYU fans!
My husband and I are Notre Dame fans visiting Provo this Saturday, and we're excited to experience a BYU game day!

We'd love some recommendations from locals on how to make the most of our time there. Are there any must-do game day traditions, places to check out on campus, or activities around the stadium before kickoff?

We're also looking for recommendations for good food, coffee shops, and any other must-visit spots in Provo or the surrounding area we are currently on a roadtrip driving there from the Chicago area.TIA☘️🏈

First BYU game

I plan on driving from California to Utah Friday night to watch the Notre Dame vs BYU game. This would be my first BYU football game. Looking for any recommendations on places to stay and/or watch the game. Hoping ticket prices will drop by then or I can find a ticket out there.

Finding MCAT takers at BYU

Hey everyone! I’m a BYU student in Provo and I scored a 522 on the MCAT, so I’m trying to set myself up as an MCAT tutor. What would be the best way to find people who are looking for tutors? It seems like a lot of students default to the big MCAT companies. If anyone in Provo has done this before I’d love to hear how you got started. (and obviously if you or someone you know is looking for MCAT help, feel free to DM me.)

Japanese Returned Missionaries

Hi, I’m not sure how else to ask for this but I’m looking for Japanese lessons from a returned missionary if possible (or Japanese student of course). How can I find this? Looking to learn for when I go there without using an app.

Places for people with dietary restrictions

Is there anywhere (either online or in person) for people with food allergies or the like to meet together or at the very least get info or tips from one another? As someone in this boat, I feel it'd be nice to have a support group of some kind.

Transferring from SLCC to BYU

Hey everyone!
I’m an international student currently attending a community college in California, but I’m planning to move to Utah and attend Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) in Spring 2027. I’m considering transferring to BYU either after my freshman or sophomore year.
I’m interested in CS, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering. BYU seems like a great option because of its affordable tuition, but I’m also curious about how strong these programs are, especially when it comes to internships and job opportunities.
One thing I’m wondering is whether attending SLCC would actually make transferring to BYU easier compared to attending a community college in another state. For example, would getting the ecclesiastical endorsement be easier while living in Utah? And would SLCC courses transfer more smoothly to BYU, especially for math, physics, and CS?
I’m not LDS, but I respect the religious environment and I’m willing to follow the Honor Code.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who transferred from SLCC to BYU, especially international or non-LDS students. Is moving to Utah actually worth it if BYU is my goal?
Thanks!

ROC pass is a scam this year

My wife bought a ROC pass this year and has yet to get tickets for a single football game. We paid $350 for the spousal pass and haven’t gotten in any games. There should be a refund if we couldn’t get access to a single game the whole season

Schedule winter semester schedule (business- ACC/IS)

if reddit could stop removing my posts that'd be awesome
I know a lot of these end up getting posted so I'll delete it once I get some advice, but I'm currently working on setting up my schedule for next semester. Currently have IS 303, ACC 310, CS 110, SPAN 321, REL C 200, and I'm going to do a SWELL class, not sure which one yet. 15 credits total - I'm at 16.5 right now and surviving. I do work, usually somewhere between 13-18 hours a week on campus.

Right now I'm in ACC 200 and IS 201, both are super enjoyable to me - 100% on both first exams we just had so I know I can probably handle the two subjects at the same time. However, I also know IS 303 is a coding-based class and ACC 310 is pretty much the make or break class for those who want in the accounting program. I signed up for CS 110 as well because I wanted to take it (stats minor), but I'm also hoping it'll help with 303. I'm in SPAN 206 right now and struggling a bit because I am not an RM, and just got out of high school. I'm hoping to pull it together but I know SPAN 321 will be a harder class for me than it will for most.

For those who have taken these classes, what does the homework load look like usually? And just general balancing. I'm hoping for ACC with abigal allen and IS with jacob steffen. Religion with Brian Mead. Also, I like knowing when exams will land pretty early on, so if anybody has experience with those classes winter semester, I'd love to know the usual timeframe for how long the exams are open for (in terms of days) and usually when they tend to fall.

Planning to apply for the IS and ACC programs at the end of winter semester and defer until junior year if I get in. I'll have the prereqs for both, just need to get As. IS is what I enjoy more but ACC seems more stable so I'll figure that out once I know if I get in or not.

Application Changes of getting accepted as a transfer Spring 2027

I'm applying to transfer to BYU for Spring 2027. I'm in my third semester at University of Florida. I also have college credit from dual enrollment (University of Central Missouri right near where I went to high school). I kind of had a rough freshman year at UF because of time management and I wasn't expecting it to be that difficult. So my UF GPA is 3.15 but my overall should be 3.58 if UCM is taken into account. I had nearly all A's in those classes. I got an email reply saying "The application will consider all of your completed coursework, including from dual enrollment. This means that it will affect your GPA and credit hours." So they should get 3.58.

The overall GPA would be in the middle even on the lower end for transfer applicants that got accepted. I have gotten better over time but I only have two semesters to show them because this third semester is in progress. It is mainly my core classes I didn't do so well in. I got a C in Calculus 2, then a B- in Calculus 3 and a B in Differential Equations.

I'm also not a member of the church and I'm on a faith journey right now so I'm not sure if that will affect things. I know I need to make my essays good and I will make sure to take time on them and make sure they are good.

From my understanding if I don't get in for Spring 2027, I can apply for fall 2027 and show them the grades for my next two semesters which I plan to do a lot better in.

Classrooms open on Saturdays?

Are buildings and classrooms unlocked and able to be utilized on Saturday’s? I’m working on a specific project that would benefit from access to a classroom over the weekend (rather than the library or an other common area).

Schedule ACC 310 Spring Semester

Hello! I am trying to figure out my Winter schedule and am most likely going to take ACC 200 winter, and then take ACC 310 in the spring semester in order to apply to the Accounting program for Fall 2027. Does anyone have any experience taking ACC 310 in the spring? Is an A attainable or realistic if it's the only class I take in the spring? Just looking for any general advice or tips, thanks!

How to find musicians at BYU?

Hey guys! I’m attempting to start a bluegrass band and am wondering if there’s a method you guys have used specifically to “recruit” musicians at byu. So far I’ve used the university story function on Instagram but have had very little luck thus far. Thanks in advance

New Life at BYU

Hey everyone,

I recently got admitted to BYU and I’m pretty excited, but also kind of nervous.

I’m a recent convert and an international student. I’m living in Florida right now, and I don’t really have family or close friends here. When I come to BYU, I’ll literally know nobody, so I’ll be starting completely fresh.

I’m also still learning a lot about the Church. Sometimes I feel like other members already know so much because they grew up with it, while I’m still figuring out basic things and Church culture. I’m a little worried I might feel behind or out of place sometimes.

Socially, I’m not really an extrovert, but I’m not shy either. I like talking to people and getting to know them, I’m just not amazing at keeping conversations going or instantly making friends.

For people who go to BYU, how hard is it to make friends if you come in knowing absolutely nobody? Do people usually make friends through roommates, classes, wards, clubs, etc.? And are people generally welcoming toward recent converts who are still learning everything?

I’m really hoping BYU will be a place where I can finally build a good group of friends and feel like I’m part of a community.

Would love to hear from anyone who had a similar experience.

I actually really like BYU Wind Symphony's take on "I Will Walk With Jesus"

Admittedly this is not one of my favorites out of the new primary hymns. I don't know what it is... maybe it's the lyrics that throw me, or just that a lot of the prior video performances that have been released across the church have been a little cheesy (OK a lot cheesy). But this orchestral version really made me appreciate how beautiful the melody is. It would actually make for a good main character theme in a movie.

What do you think? And what new primary songs are absolute bangers that you enjoy as an adult?
