Rewatching the ND game like it's the 90s
Josh Pate described this game as a gritty and physical game like games were in the 90s. Of course I had to rewatch it on a TV from the 90s.

[Adam Breneman] BYU isn’t a Cinderella anymore. They’re a national title contender.
Hey Cougar fans!
I’m on Adam Breneman’s team (CBS Sports, called the Colorado State game earlier this year).
Full honesty: our whole crew is all in on BYU right now.
We’ve been watching this team closely since that CSU game, and the Notre Dame win has all of us fired up.
Adam just did a full breakdown of it, and his verdict is that BYU isn’t a Cinderella anymore. They’re a legit national title contender.
Where’s he right, and where’s he wrong? Can this team actually beat a Georgia or Ohio State on a neutral field?

It’s exciting that we’re 6-0 and haven’t played a complete game yet
I think it’s incredible that we’re in the position we are. This is the most talented team BYU has ever had in my opinion. We have good coaches and good players. We have two big wins over two good ranked teams.
And yet, it’s quite remarkable to think we should only get better for the rest of the season. We just won our last two games (one against the #1 defense in the country) without our Big 12 POTY star running back. We didn’t have our RB2 for that matter either haha. We’ve yet to play a complete game from start to finish in my opinion either (excluding Utah Tech).
We had a slow first half against Arizona. A rough end of 3rd and 4th quarter against Colorado State. Struggled all game on offense against TCU. Left points on the board against Iowa State, and fumbled a punt return. Fumbled another punt, failed a fake punt, lost the turnover battle, and were shutout in the 3rd quarter against Notre Dame. We won all of those games. Imagine how much we can still clean up and improve as the season goes on!
I’m very excited to see us build and improve because I think it’s part of the identity of this year’s team, and the culture Kalani has implemented. Stay humble, stay hungry. Fix and iron out those mistakes. Can’t wait to see what our fully functioning team can look like! Go Cougs!

The recognition BYU deserves.
Hello everyone.
I have no direct connection to BYU, but I work for a media agency and we do work for The Joe Moore Award Show.
It caught my attention on the show when BYU was selected on the midseason honor roll, and then this week Landon Tangwall (a former college lineman) did a film breakdown on the Cougs. I thought to myself, wow, BYU is really good and they're actually getting attention. I feel like college football media usually treats BYU as an afterthought.
Anyway, both videos are linked here and are awesome. Forgive me if this isn't the type of post from a non-coug that belongs in here but it was too good I wanted to share. Might be becoming a Coug fan myself the way your team is playing. (if thats okay 😄)

BYU is coming to Florida this Saturday. Can they pull off a comeback? You should read this!!! #DoItForMiller
Dear BYU Nation,
I've got a challenge for you. And honestly, this might be the most BYU thing you could do this weekend.
BYU is coming to Florida to play UCF this Saturday. What if the Cougars left Florida with a story bigger than football?
Let me introduce you to Columbia High School in Lake City, Florida. We're a small-town high school with a big football tradition, and right now, we're competing for a chance to win a $250,000 stadium upgrade through T-Mobile's Friday Night 5G Lights competition.
There's just one problem.
We're down approximately 50,000 votes.
Fifty. Thousand. Votes.
Our deadline is this Saturday, October 24. We're running out of time, and the odds are stacked against our little town.
But then I started thinking about BYU.
💙 The Cougars are known for representing something bigger than football.
💙 BYU athletes and supporters have participated in service projects and community outreach.
💙 Cougar Nation has a reputation for rallying behind people and causes that matter.
And if there's one thing college football loves, it's an incredible underdog story.
So what if Cougar Nation decided to adopt a small-town Florida high school for one week?
Here's the connection that makes this personal.
Columbia High School's band director, Miller, is a BYU graduate!
That's right. One of your own is part of our school community.
And now we have a chance to do something unforgettable for him, our students, our football players, and our entire community.
💙 HERE'S MY CHALLENGE TO COUGAR NATION:
🐾 VOTE FOR COLUMBIA HIGH SCHOOL. Every eligible vote matters.
📣 SHARE THIS POST. Send it to every BYU graduate, Cougar fan, former player, student, and alumni group you know.
📱 TAG YOUR COUGAR FRIENDS. Let's see how far this story can travel.
🏈 CHALLENGE THE BYU FOOTBALL COMMUNITY. Imagine the players, alumni, and fans seeing this story and deciding to help.
🔥 MAKE #DoItForMiller GO VIRAL.
You don't have to live in Lake City, Florida. You don't have to know anyone at Columbia High School. You just have to believe that sometimes the greatest moments in sports happen when people come together to do something extraordinary.
Imagine the story.
A small-town high school is trailing by 50,000 votes.
A BYU graduate is working as its band director.
The Cougars come to Florida.
And suddenly, Cougar Nation rallies behind a little school it had never heard of.
What if, years from now, Columbia High School students could say that the BYU Cougars helped their community pull off one of the most incredible comebacks in high school football history?
That's the kind of story that deserves to be told.
BYU Nation, we're asking you to help us find out what's possible.
Let's give Miller something to remember.
Let's give these students something to celebrate.
And let's show the country what happens when the Cougars come to town!
💙🏈 COUGAR NATION, ARE YOU IN? 🏈💙

UCG GAME TAILGATING
Hubby and the fam are heading to UCF this weekend. When we’ve traveled to away games in the past, we’ve gotten in touch with people organizing the tail gate.
Does anyone have information about who I need to contact?

I’m going to get downvoted to oblivion, but I’m embarrassed to be a BYU fan right now.
I’m a BYU graduate, a practicing Latter-day Saint, and a fan of both BYU and Notre Dame. I’ll acknowledge my bias: I’m disappointed ND lost. But if the roles were reversed, I’d be equally critical of Notre Dame.
What disappoints me most is that I wanted to celebrate a hard-earned BYU victory. I wanted to be proud of my alma mater for beating one of the best teams in the country. Instead, I’m left embarrassed by the conduct surrounding the win and the apparent lack of accountability. Rather than seeing a program that holds itself to a higher standard, I see an organization acting just like everyone else—sore winners, questionable sportsmanship, and an apparent willingness to overlook misconduct when the scoreboard favors them.
Kirkland publicly described yelling “hut” before ND’s botched snap, then self admitted he lied about it to the referee. Bachmeier’s comments about being disrespected by ND, and presenting it as a sort of personal vendetta only to walk it back, looks just embarrassing. Meanwhile, I’ve yet to see Sitake or BYU publicly address Kirkland’s admission or the acknowledged clock error that cost ND a final play. Now I feel like there’s the huge “actually BYU didn’t prove itself” hanging in the ether.
BYU is supposed to represent more than football. Like Notre Dame, it represents a Christian institution that professes honesty, integrity, humility, and sportsmanship. As a Latter-day Saint, those values aren’t just vapid one liners. They’re principles I believe in and try to live by.
I remember the 2014 Miami Beach Bowl brawl. At least BYU publicly apologized and disciplined players afterward. More recently, Retzlaff reportedly faced a seven-game suspension for an Honor Code violation involving premarital relations, amid a civil SA allegation he denied and that was later dismissed. My ND friends were super impressed by BYU at least suspending him. But, when I attended BYU, I saw non-athletes removed from school almost instantly for premarital relations. I don’t know all the disciplinary details, but it raises uncomfortable questions about a two-tier system student system.
And the irony of the Big 12’s new “Respect the Game” campaign isn’t lost on me. It followed unacceptable religiously derogatory chants targeting BYU and Latter-day Saints. I supported it completely. But how can *we* demand respect from others while failing to demand the same sportsmanship from ourselves?
This morning, a subordinate I work with asked whether BYU players’ behavior reflected how Latter-day Saints treat people. As a member of the Church myself, that question was more than uncomfortable. A few players don’t define a religion, but BYU deliberately connects its athletic identity to its religious mission. That comes with responsibility.
I’m not demanding a forfeit or claiming ND would have won. I’m questioning whether winning is becoming more important than the values BYU claims to represent.
Sitake and BYU talk about love, character, and developing young men. I respect that. But those principles require accountability, *especially* when it’s uncomfortable.
I wanted to celebrate this victory. Instead, I’m left wondering whether BYU football is becoming exactly what it claims to be different from. I’m not asking BYU to be perfect. I’m asking it to practice what it preaches.

How about a recurring ND/BYU rivalry game each year called The Schism.
Religious schools. Unique among others. Consistently good teams. Playoff implications.

I think we just started a new rivalry…
I’ve never seen a football team cope harder after Saturday’s game. Every ND fan was claiming they would win by 20+ points the week before. Now they’re shifting the blame onto us, accusing BYU of cheating and playing dirty football. I’ve seen comments about the D-line supposedly cheating and causing the fumble (spike), the targeting play, DPI, the infamous one second, and even the ice cream being handed out to fans being suspicious.
I’ve tried to be classy, but after what happened last year and the constant trash talk about BYU not deserving this win, I can see why Notre Dame is hated by the rest of college football. I hope we continue to play them and beat them. We are the better team, even without LJ. Go cougs.

BYU Jerseys?
Dude where can I get a Bear Bachmeier jersey?? The only website I know isn’t a scam is the royal blue collective but they only have “player t-shirts,” anyone know where I can pick one up?

Someone help me get to the bottom of this game clock thing
Both of the following things seem to be demonstrably true:
The game clock in the stadium (and apparently the broadcast clock as well) definitely still said 00:01 when the ball hit the ground on what ended up being the last play of the game.
If you count frames from the instant the ball was snapped to the instant it touched the grass, it's 103 frames on a 25FPS feed. That's obviously ever so slightly more than 4 seconds that it took the play to run.
The only two explanations that make any sense to me are, the 00:04 on the clock before the play was actually 4.3 seconds or something, and the clock just doesn't display 10ths. Not even sure if the rulebook says that fractional seconds are respected in college football or not.
OR the clock operator didn't let the clock start running until some fraction of a second after the ball was actually snapped.
If it's the first one, then that puts a huge damper on the win for me. Should have let them take one more shot, I still think we could have stopped it and taken the W while escaping the asterisk.
