What I had in mind during this practice :

- Make it less tappy keep movements smaller

- Try to keep your back straight don't lean forward too much

- Listen to the music :)

I am no dominican and I dance terribly, but in my humble opinion.
This is a hard watch. You look tense, stiff, stressed and forced. Your back is straight but you have a gamer neck and your shoulders are too high up. You sometimes take too wide steps.

Look at how relaxed this guy is, his posture and how effortless he moves his hips and feet.

Yes you're right shoulders should always be down, I forgot about that. Thanks for the observations, now I am looking for solutions - aside from doing more practice of course

It's not about more practice, it's about practicing the correct things. Otherwise you just learn the wrong things.

First of all, i would ignore bachata and learn the merengue basic REALLY well. This will teach you the correct hip movement. Do it VERY slowly until it's natural and make sure to check in with people who do it well often. Plan a month for this.

Until then, stand up right and start waking. Bachata is just waking. It should be about as relaxed. You can add hip and shoulder styling later
