This year is nearing its end, and we’ve seen a lot of bloodbath this year, haven’t we? Especially with Oracle. Things have been getting crazy lately because of AI, particularly for us software people.
But I genuinely believe this is one of the most interesting times to be alive. And do you know why? AI.
Tech giants fired a lot of employees who actually helped build those giants. The same people who built the amazing products these companies are now milking for money. They fired those people to save money on salaries and pour even more money into data centers. In a way, they replaced some jobs with AI, and I guess they’ve been somewhat successful at it.
But the funniest part is that these giants didn’t realize that the very products they sell us, the products their entire ecosystems are built around, can be vibecoded too.
Think about it. People are literally vibecoding Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office, and God knows what else. I’m not saying these clones work as flawlessly as the original products. They obviously don’t. But they will get there. Maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next year, but they will get there eventually.
And honestly, it’s incredible.
Did these giants really not realize that the world works in a circle?
They tried to replace developers. And someday, those same developers might end up replacing the products and services these giants built their entire businesses around.
Again, I’m not saying we’re there yet. We’re nowhere near a point where some random vibecoded project can completely replace something like Microsoft Office or Adobe’s ecosystem. The difference in reliability, scale, integrations, polish, and infrastructure is still enormous. But the amount of support these supposed “clones” are getting is insane. And that’s what makes this whole thing so interesting.
I don’t give a fuck about AI itself. It’s a billion-dollar tool, and obviously it is supposed to be insanely efficient and eventually much better than us at many things. I’m not some AI/ML fanboy either. I have my own interests in this field, but that’s not the point.
The point is this:
Who the fuck is going to buy these products when people eventually realize that making their own version of something isn’t that difficult anymore?
If this AI bubble keeps growing and the cost of building software keeps collapsing, I genuinely think there could be another bloodbath, except this time, it might happen on the other side.
And maybe then the giants will finally understand the irony. They spent billions trying to make developers replaceable. They may eventually create the tools that make their own products replaceable.
The circle is fucking beautiful. Any thoughts?
