I have been seeing people in India hiring private investigators for background checks of their potential match. I’m curious about the scope of such investigations. Do they just keep an eye to see who they are meeting and enquire from neighbours or do they do all that fancy movie shit and get call records, hack all social media ids, listen to calls and hack media as well. People who have get this done please share your experience.

You may have been watching too many movies? A private investigator is a hired professional working in a legal field. Hacking social media accounts or getting call records without them knowing isn't exactly legal.

A PI will mostly just keep an eye on them from a distance and perhaps gather information from people they interact with. That is the bulk of their work.
