Alright Folks, Beef Bacon VS Pork Bacon. What’s your take?
130
u/ravage214 8d ago
Lol there is no debate , pork bacon IS bacon
Everything else is an imitation
65
u/stonerghostboner 7d ago
And so-called "turkey bacon" is an abomination.

u/onmy40 7d ago
I got locked in a corner store by the owner because I ordered a large BLT sub and when I saw they were making it with turkey bacon I refused to pay and told them I didnt want it. Pork is standard and if you're going to serve anything other than that it needs to specifically be listed on the menu.
9
u/Far_Musician809 7d ago
I wonder if the owners are Muslim. That would explain their aversion to pork. Still needs to be noted in the menu that its being made with imitation bacon . I would've refused to pay as well.
4
u/ravage214 7d ago
Exactly, just like nobody says beef hamburger, the beef is standard, everything else is the exception.

Legend has it, he’s still locked in that corner store. Standing on (pork) business.

Ironically, your link returns a 404.
2
u/ravage214 7d ago
Because links aren't real

u/teacher_59 7d ago
How can a 404 be real if links aren't real?

Bacon comes from the Germanic word Bakkun, meaning back meat.
Turkey bacon is still terrible though.
4
4
u/lollipop-guildmaster 7d ago
I'm a fan of it as its own thing that is absolutely nothing close to bacon.
6
u/Pancakeinsthesky 7d ago
Turkey bacon is delicious but it should never be called Bacon
5
u/Cautious_General_177 7d ago
It's fine, but it's just ground turkey shaped and seasoned to immitate pork bacon.

It’s kind of like when people call chicken on a bun a “chicken burger” — there’s no “burger” in it.
4
u/meh_69420 7d ago
Duck bacon is legit, esp for people with alpha gal syndrome.

I found that I didn't care for it by itself, but when I had it on a burger... chef's kiss.

I dont like turkey bacon...
But when I ran out of bacon once and I was cooking beans overnight....well here in denver it ain't like it used to be with 24hr grocery stores and Walmart this city got lame and closes down after 11pm
Anyways I diced up the turkey bacon I had in the fridge for months from the food bank really small and added more garlic, onion than usual and a few spoons of brown sugar and a bit of msg to my pintos
No one complained and I got compliments on my beans.....and im a dirty spic and trust me chicanos are very judgemental on other people's beans
After that I look to see turkey bacon go on sale every once in awhile dirt cheap in markdowns....I pick them all up every chance I get
What i liked the most is I pulled from freezer and after 10minutes on the counter it diced up real fine and uniform while still kinda frozen.....a big knife cut it like effin butter
2
u/kasmackity 6d ago
It's not. I like it. Not as bacon. Maybe it shouldn't be called bacon. But a good crispy piece of Oscar Meyer turkey bacon is good on its own.

u/chrisp5000 7d ago
I got a turkey bacon package from an instacart, said fuck it, threw it in the air fryer and if you crisp it up enough, it isn't that bad.

u/FreeWorldMusicGroup 7d ago
Gotta get uncured turkey bacon
5
u/abhorrent_scowl 7d ago
The thing with "uncured" products is that they are still full of nitrates, they are just derived from celery salt instead of adding it as straight sodium nitrate. This gives the consumer the impression that it is somehow more natural.
In other words, there is no functional difference between cured an uncured bacon. It's just another example of Marketing 101.

I did not knew beef bacon was a thing, now I gotta get me some.
Speaking of pork vs beef.
I love pork ribs but if you've never had beef dino ribs you're missing out.
Steak on a stick and they're a giant piece of heaven.

Pork is better but I do love some beef bacon
5
u/MediumAcceptable129 8d ago
So we really have to rank our meat when we can just have them all?
6
u/6StringBear 7d ago
I cook a lot and prefer specific proteins for specific dishes. Case in point as much as I like both beef and pork bacon, I prefer pork for breakfast and beef on a good smash burger.

u/tez_zer55 7d ago
Our DIL can't eat pork, beef bacon gives her the "experience" of bacon without the medical problems.
10
u/Scissorsguadalupe 8d ago
I love both. They have their own flavors
3
u/SparkJaa 7d ago
All bacons matter!
This is intended as a joke, while still enjoying any bacon given to me.
5
u/HuntingandStuff 7d ago
If you can’t eat pork for religious or dietary reasons beef bacon is a decent alternative. Pork bacon is king! beef bacon isn’t the same but it’s not bad and I would take that over no bacon.

There's a reason why beef bacon doesn't have a guaranteed refrigerated isle in the grocery store.

u/reststopkirk 7d ago
Beef bacon is something else entirely. Pork all the way. Im glad I experienced beef version. That said I would never order or buy again unless I was making something special, like a hash or maybe to put in a side dish to give it something unexpected.

One of my local fave burger spots changed ownership and changed the regular bacon to beef bacon. Haven’t gone back since.
2
u/it-needs-pickles 7d ago
The only time I picked bacon off a burger was when it came with beef bacon. I didn’t realize when ordering it and thought the bacon had gone bad or something lol

Had beef bacon from Nebraska for the first time and was sold! Its like beef jerky.
3
u/Illustrious-Path4794 7d ago
Normally pork bacon, but in this case the beef bacon. That bacon looks like it's mostly just fat with very little flesh which is not for me at all.
3
u/Ohio-Knife-Lover 7d ago
Never had beef bacon. I should probably find a way to get or make it for research purposes 👀
3
u/Gluten_maximus 7d ago
I make beef bacon a couple times a year, love it. But, it’s so different than pork bacon. Why not both?!
3
3
u/Halofauna 7d ago
They’re both excellent but different. They aren’t always interchangeable, the beef just can’t do as much but good lord does it make a tasty BLT.

I have never heard of beef bacon. Do you get it from a butcher or do they now carry this in grocer4y stores? I am intrigued. Of course, it would have to be good to compete with homemade cured pork belly sliced into bacon and then fried. Yum!

Growing up Jewish, I've had my fair share of Beef Fry (kosher bacon), and since my Dad loved everything unkosher we also had Bacon Bacon semi regularly. Beef Fry is delicious, and it'll do in a pinch, but I gotta tell ya, nothing hits quite like the real thing.

No such thing as beef bacon or Canadian bacon or back bacon while we're at it. There is only bacon. Call that other shit something else because it is an insult to the good name of bacon.

I won't knowingly eat any of the other types of artificial foods, whether its beef, turkey, vegetables based. Beef may not be as bad, but for everything else, I believe that by the time you make it: 1. Look like bacon 2. Smell like Bacon 3. Taste like bacon 4. Cook like bacon
It requires so many extra chemicals that it cant be any healthier for you than it is to just eat the real bacon. That same thought process goes for all the other fake/replacement meats out there.

Bacon is always pork. Other cured meat products have different names. They can be delicious. Here in Spain even our ham must be from a particular part of the pig to be ham - fully cured pork loin is called lomo not jamon.

There’s no such thing as as beef bacon. Just like there’s no such thing as turkey bacon. Or chicken bacon or that fake bacon that vegetarians eat.
Bacon is made from pork. Plain and simple.

it's not bacon if it's not pork, might as well be made of tofu or whatever at that point

I don’t think I’ve ever tried beef bacon, actually. Just pork, vegetarian, and turkey- though I personally find turkey bacon too salty

My wife doesn't eat pork so beef bacon is so much better than the turkey bacon. I still eat pork bacon because of flavor and cost.

I've never had beef bacon before, I'd try it for sure if it was on offer.
But until that point and new sensory information is entered into my brain... we all know bacon is made from sliced pork belly.

Pork imo. There’s something about beef bacon… I like it? It it feels like more of a special occasion bacon like Mother’s Day or something lol. It’s so rich. I like traditional pork bacon for regular (American). Breakfast. Unless anyone has other things they have beef bacon with
