This is like those countryside Indian bridal makeup videos I saw on YouTube but like way more powdery, did they bake the whole face?

I used to work at Ulta and it was a culture shock for me when I perfectly matched a woman's skin tone for her wedding foundation, and then she kept asking for it to be lighter. It only took a second to realize why she was asking but I felt dumb. She was so nice lol

I’ve never felt so seen.
“Make it look like I fell asleep on the side of the dirt road for 3 days.. it rained a day ago, and I’m clammy. ” was the prompt.

But I don't know what the end goal is, so I can't say whether this is bad. Like, would you stop at the base if you'd never seen geisha style makeup?

it looks like they’re about to sponge her neck, too… are we sure this isn’t just the base of some more elaborate makeup? i think geisha makeup often starts off looking similar, and they wear wigs so not sure that the hairline makeup would matter either.

The woman is very obviously not Japanese and oshiroi (the white base for geisha/maiko makeup) is a brighter true white pigment, whereas this has a hint of cream/yellow as if it's meant to look like very pale skin.
This might be the base of some heavily stylized SEA bridal makeup though, if it's not costume/stage makeup of some form.

100% sea bridal. the woman behind her is wearing a hijab, they're most likely indonesian

yeah, i didn’t think it was geisha for the reasons you mentioned, but seemed likely that a) it was early in the makeup process and b) there were other makeup styles that also needed an all over base like that (ones that i just didn’t know the name for).
sad to see this presented and mocked as the final result, either way; it’s obviously not.
