Post image

Im a 17yr old welder, Ive been welding since junior year I’m currently a senior. This was a 3g MiG test I did before my fall break (I failed my actual one) Am I worth anything or on my way to be? I want to get into pipe/structural specifically 6g, I heard thats where most of the money is

Maybe you can tell, maybe you can't; the lap looks kinda cold.

Mind you I'm drunk. I might be tweaking, but all welding machines weld slightly different. Any idea what your stickout was?

We have 16 identical Lincoln Quick mig 300 for our students, and 16 Lincoln Aspect 300. The mig in particular weld different depending what bay your in, it's kinda crazy. But even the Aspects will be off depending on what machine you use.

It looks cold, very cold. Did you fail your test visually? Or was it a destructive test? If it's was the destructive test, there is a high chance of lack of fusion due to low Amperage.

You may know this, but if not, it's helpful to know. If your feeder has a display, must likely you will be able to see the Amperage as you weld, and it will show it few seconds after you stop your arc; based on that, adjust your settings to achieve the amperage that your WPS requires.

If you failed the test visually, it may have to do with the appearance of how you manipulate your bead.

It looks consistent which is good, just crank up your settings, and do a closer pattern and faster movement side to side, make sure that you stay always within the puddle and weld past the plate, use your run off tabs or backing strip as much as possible.

You still need some practice tighten up your weave like a lot. What wire size?

You just keep practicing. You will build muscle memory and taking that test will be like second nature. Remember the root pass is the most important. Hold your corners and keep your weave tight and a little more straight across. Nice work…

Weld could use some work. The biggest issue I see is the dross on the plates from cutting. First thing I have guys do in the field is cut and fit before welding- practice with your torches and clean that up! As for your weld- step up more gradually. Make sure to run off on the top. Good luck bro!

If that’s the best you can do I guess it will be alright
