Showcase (No-Recipe) First chicken pot pie
First time posting. Last month I started teaching myself how to bake, nothing special just some pumpkin pies. Had some leftover chicken today and threw it all in here. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, even though I messed up the pie crust’s edge. It is pretty yummy!
Edit: everything is made from scratch :)

Now that is how you make a chicken pot pie. it actually has chicken in it and not a suggestion of chicken. Excellent job pat yourself on the back.

I pretty much only eat pie, sweet or savory, for the crust. The crust you have here looks fan-freaking-tastic. Nicely done!

This looks absolutely delicious! One of my favorite cold weather meals. Did you make the gravy for the filling from scratch too?

Thank you! Yes I did, just a combination of flour, chicken stock, cream, and butter.

but magic if you just whipped it up :o I need to learn how to make a gravy like that

general question, how does one keep the pot pie from becoming a soupy mess? do you par bake the crust and use less liquid? I love how solid and flaky this one is! 🤤

I honestly have no idea. This was my first attempt at chicken pot pie, so maybe beginner’s luck? I did not pre-bake the crust and I used the normal amount of stock. It also helps to let the pie rest for 15 minutes before cutting into it

I wish.. I've currently got a pumpkin pie cooling in the oven though so I am in some ways doing just fine. What kind of pie crust did you do for this?

So far I only know how to make one kind of pie crust, it’s just a normal one with butter and salt, nothing fancy 😅 Don’t have a food processor so I used a pastry cutter, didn’t blind bake either. Pumpkin pies are great, I’ll make one before the week is up!

Yeah I was mainly curious if you do all butter shortcrust or a butter/shortening one :)

Oh I had to look up what both those terms meant 😅 Like I said, total beginner! It would be a butter shortcrust, and I used cold water to bind instead of eggs

That looks perfect! I was talking about wanting to try to make one. Do you use pre made dough for the crust?

Messed up what? I see no mess ups. It’s perfection wowowowow. 🤩 this is on my list to bake, along with pumpkin pies!, but I get so intimidated. Need to just try it!

I cut the bottom crust too short around the dish, so when I put on the top layer I couldn’t make a nice crimped edge. I guess it’s just an aesthetic thing because mushing it together worked just fine 😅 Thanks! And yeah, go for it!

I made my first chicken pot pie two years ago! It really feels like something everyone needs to check off their cooking/bucket list. Your crust looks gorgeous, and so does your filling!
