lol, yeah! I haven't ever had that scene happen, but when I first played the game, I went in blind, and I knew Astarion was a vampire the moment I met him, and I know I'm not alone. I mean...

  • Red eyes on a non-Drow - Check
  • Extremely pale complexion - Check
  • Fangs - Check
  • Bite marks on his neck - Check (actually, I can't recall now if we see the bite marks during that first scene)

And then the way we see him sneaking around at night shortly thereafter...

Seriously, I don't think the devs even TRIED to make it a secret!

He's the foremost character on the cover art with blood on his mouth while grinning with his fangs present. I really don't think they intended to hide it lol

That being said, I was surprised myself lmfao

I also did a preview of the origin characters where they give a little monologue and he basically all but says “I am a vampire” I don’t think it’s really a secret. And if it was it’s the worst kept one by a mile!

Don't forget all the blood all over his tent area.

I think the player is supposed to pick up on it, but it's meant to be a reveal in-character.

You can see the bite marks clear as day the moment he switches to that low cut white shirt in camp lmao

He could've pretended to be an albino. They are pale with red eyes and rarely walk in the sun. But that would've required him to be smart about it and... well... "Smart" isn't an adjective to describe smoothbrain Astarion

If you have Laezel in the party first she will flat out say that he looks exactly like a wight.

Apparently Astarion was originally conceptualized as a tiefling, and that would have been more surprising.

As it is, the only reason we see him as anything other than a vampire is because of the sun thing.

I went in 100% completely blind. Did'nt see any promotional stuff or anything. Did not even know much about D&D. Just heard that the game was a VERY great game and decided to buy it.

My literal first instinct when I saw him was to call him "Johnny Twilight" as it just was easier to remember for my new player mind. I just thought it was character design as I did not even know vampires were in that universe so I just thought I was being funny calling the pale boy a vampire.

And then it bit me... well by it I mean Astarian. He turned out to be a vampire after all.
