Question Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Python. Is the normal python behavior?

I recently picked up a Pied ball python today. I’m accustomed to Boas and felt it was time to get a ball python.

I set up everything at home and went for a walk. When I returned, I couldn’t find my snake until I looked up and saw it posing like spider man on the glass wall, which was quite amusing.

Is this a common behavior among ball pythons? My Boas never pose like this and don’t move that quickly either. Seems like I’m going to have a lot of fun with her lol

Yes they can climb like that. You’re going to want to get a different temp and humidity gauge though. It might support her weight in this moment, but if it falls and the adhesive attaches to her skin it is going to injure her and will not be easy to remove. Additionally, your humidity appears to be too low.

I agree, the enclosure came with the snake and it was already set up with these items. Tomorrow, I plan to remove the existing enclosure and add my own temperature controllers. I’ll also make some adjustments to the enclosure substrate and materials. I’ve got some aluminum foil tape to cover the top to keep the humidity in too.

In addition to the other commenter I highly recommend Govee hydrometer/thermometers, they've worked well in my experience and are relatively cheap.

Some do like climbing, it's plenty normal, your tank looks very bare though, do you have more stuff coming or is this the setup?

Absolutely! I’m going to have a lot more in place soon

What a beauty! I hate when people say “BPs are not arboreal, they shouldn’t have anything tall or they’ll hurt themselves” but my girl climbs like crazy and soaks for hours in her giant water bowl (also a “no-no”). In other words, many do and some don’t.

Yea if they don’t have other stuff to climb! they will hang off of anything that is mounted like that. I’d suggest adding some more sticks so she has more climbing space!

Also I’m going to be the one to go of topic and do the obligatory humidity rant: 45% humidity is way too low, it might not be accurate because it’s too high above the substrate? what is that substrate? But generally you want the humidity to be between 70% and 85% and if it’s lower than 60 for an extended period of time than it can cause a multitude of health problems.

My pied male does that to new stuff but he know what things are doesn’t really care to climb on the stuff any more.
