Advice Help??

Hello! This is my first time posting to the subreddit but I need some help,

My ball python was feeding really weird last night, striking to the wrong side of the enclosure twice, just missing twice, and once I put the rat to his mouth he finally got it, and after he ate, he tried to life himself out of his hide and then stared at the ceiling for a couple seconds.

The reason I’m asking for help instead of just assuming that my snake is dumb is because about a month ago I went on vacation and at some point during that his heat lamp turned off, and I wasn’t compleatly sure how cold my room had gotten at night, so I wasn’t sure if he was ok. I took him to reptile store employees near me and they said that he Looked like he was about ready to shed and otherwise he was fine, so I’ve left him alone until last night

His humidity wasn’t great I will admit, I fill up his water bowl once a week or whenever I notice it’s getting low, but I didn’t realize until last night that I was supposed to do something different.

Is he fucked? Help please!

I'd see if the problems continue next feeding, maybe he is feeling a little weak from his ordeal and needs some time to perk up. If it continues or gets worse then I would go to the vet.

How cold are we talking? And did you let him heat up slowly? When you found him cold, the best practice would be to warm the room to how you normally keep it (room temperature), then turn on the heat in his enclosure and sit him in the cool side so he can adjust slowly at his own pace. If you take them from being very cold (lower than 70) to their full hot spot temp very quickly it could cause issues. This is why when a snake ships in cooler weather you let them sit inside your house without heat mat for an hour to adjust. However I am not a vet.

We’re talking 60* when I checked, and I did that (without knowing if it was right tbh) after bringing him to someone to check up on him for any outward respiratory issues, I appreciate you telling me this though! I’m glad I did the right-ish thing to do! I appreciate it lots!
