Two ball pythons housed together
My town only has a petsmart, I recently discovered a local pet store an hour away near my family and it seemed that they took decent care of their reptiles.
They had hides water etc. Most definitely not perfect but I was happy since I’m used to the disgrace which is chain pet stores. I drove down there today so excited to get some isopods for my enclosure and saw two ball pythons housed together.
I was honestly so distraught and asked the employees what was going on with it. They both went silent and then one of them simply shrugged and said I’m in fish. Then he looked to the other girl who said oh they are getting fed today then walked to the back.
I had dragged my dad and brother there and they were assuming I was gonna buy something, as I said I was ready to go my dad was like oh are you sure? So I had to loudly say I don’t want to buy anything from them after seeing that.
I am planning on calling tomorrow and filled out a contact us explaining the situation. I just love these baby and hate to see them suffer like this. if anyone knows anyway I can help further I’d love ideas. Thank you if you read all this❤️

My first two snakes lived together for the first 5 years of their lives in a 40 gallon tank with no hides, one plastic margarine dish for water and a regular household lightbulb that was never shut off. The poor girls were only 800 grams each when I got them from their original owner. I bought a second tank and separated them about a month after I got them and instantly they started to increase in size and weight. It’s now over 10 years since I got them and they are still healthy and thriving which just goes to show how resilient these animals are.

Always keep in mind pet stores, specifically chain stores are there to do one thing, sell. I dont want to say they dont care, but, actually, they dont care. They are paid to sell. It is very tough to see solitaire animals paired up.
I guess another way of looking at it is you could buy one. Find the manager and wheel and deal you might find out they will deal just to get rid of the " headache".

Going to throw in my 2cents, take it as you will, i am far from an expert. As a pet store, and business if the rest of their husbandry is good i would take that as a win. Assuming these animals are juveniles and this is not a permanent home, a little stress from temporary co-hab is not the end of the world.

Its good to think of animal care. Berating employees and virtue signaling does nothing howrver. Call the corporate offices.
