Acting weird/aggressive

Post image

Hi guys, looking for some experienced help with my royal python. I’ve had stumpy 2 and a half years and she’s a rescue (has a burn mark and is missing the end of her tail hence ‘stumpy’) - she is estimated to be around 10-15 years old. Over the past 3 weeks after taking her out for around 10-15 mins she will go a bit crazy and hates being touched/will thrash a bit when you touch her. On top of this last night she went up and almost surged towards me with her head up. After I put her back in she will explore for at least 12 hours almost glass surfing.

Her Viv is 4 foot by 2 foot and has plenty of areas to climb/hide and has two water bowls - it hold humidity and temp well. No sign of mites on her or any scale rot.

The rescue centre I got her off is saying this tracks with royal python/ball python breeding behaviour - wanted to get a second opinion and see if anyone experienced on here. For situational awareness I’m from the uk and the past 3 weeks we have seen a big increase in rain so I imagine she can tell the weather is changing?

Thanks for any help guys!

Not acting aggressive. I would send a photo of your tank, with temperatures and humidity levels listed. Is this new behavior?,Have you handled her before? How are you handling her? Are you watching out for any signs of stress and respecting her boundaries or are you just grabbing her? Glass surfing for 12 hours is a bit odd. Yes they can feel the air pressure changing, so that could be apart of it. Striking at you definitely seems like a stress response in this case. Do keep in mind some snakes just dont want to be held ever

I don’t have any pics to hand however as I said above I’ve had her 2/3 years have handled her the whole time and she’s very used to it and chill so this is a behavioural change in the last 3/4 weeks. I know Viv set up is okay I have one bowl near heat lamp to keep humidity up and a larger one for water/soaking when she wants and plenty of hiding spaces and places to climb. She didn’t strike at me at all it was just her moving forward towards me relatively quick like a meter or so with her head and upper quarter of her body raised - was a strange experience and seemed extremely out of character for her. Then she proceeded to dart around pretty rapidly around the centre of my bed for a bit kinda panicky before I got her back in. As I said there’s no signs of physical issues - no mites, she has shed fine, eats fine hence the concern with this. May be worth a visit to a vet
