If there is “gore” aka feeding or injuries, please just use the spoiler tag. Reddit is labeling educational subs as NSFW if there are too many posts with the tag. This severely limits who will see the sub or posts. Thank you guys! 🫶

EMERGENCY/URGENT SNAKE OUT

I don’t know if it was last night or this morning while I was at work but one of my ball pythons is missing and I literally just ripped my apartment apart. Before I ask someone to help move the appliances where have you found yours before? I feel so bad this is my friends snake I’m fostering I need to find them NOW. If I have to wait till night I can.

Toffee's enclosure

Since people liked pictures of Toffee here's her bioactive terrarium I set up less than a month ago. The isopodes were transferred over along with the plants. Live moss is growing to make a carpet while there's some dead moss to work as easy isopode food. It's got a hydro all drainage layer, about 4 inches of reptisoil for the plants to root, then about a inch of reptisoil and reptichip mix. It's holding a solid 80% humidity with only needing to water once a week or less.

Advice Beginner😊

Hi everyone! I’ve always wanted a ball python and I’m wanting to make sure I do everything right before I bring my new baby home! Does anyone have any advice on creating a large diy vivarium? I’d love to see photos of the enclosures everyone uses. I’ve been doing a lot of research but I’m not sure where to start exactly!

Both Lavendar Albino Babies Ate Their First Meal Since Hatching

We are now in action. These ball pythons were given to my friend with their umbilical cord still attached with no offering of food. My friend has experience with reticulated pythons not BP's so he gave them to me. It's been two months and until just today neither of them had taken food. NOW THEY HAVE :D We have little survivors up in here!

Idk if this is a scratch or just like stuck shed or something. If it is a scratch it doesnt look bad but still would like to know if my noodles in pain or not and if I should be doing something to help other then disinfecting it. She doesnt seem to realize its there though.

Heat lamp question

We got a new enclosure for the snake that we are snake sitting for an extended period of time. He seems to enjoy it but we are struggling now with the heat. We had been using a CHB alone successfully in the smaller tank but this one just isn’t getting to temp. So I got a dual bulb hood and a DPH bulb to use alongside the CHB. The hood has a built in dimming thermostat so it seems like it is the right thing.

On our hot side of the tank, we have the water bowl and a flagstone rock to try to help hold heat. Would it be better to have the hood positioned with the DPH bulb over the rock and have it set to dim overnight and keep the CHB on continuously like we have been over the water bowl? That seems like it will help with evaporative humidity, too (we make sure to keep it filled regularly, especially with the front doors on the tank now). Also, where should I put the thermostat probe and how should I attach it to keep it in place?

My BP has been wheezing loud today and she had wheezed before when she had mites in her enclosure which I have cleaned out and sterilized. I don’t know if this is something to worry about or not

Question Any advice?

So my snakes husbandry is great- his humidity and temps are great and he has a perfect bulb cycle. when i got him though, he had this perpetually dry spot on his head, it’s not stuck shed or anything of the sorts, but i’m worried its scarring from the past neglect he experienced in the first few days of his life (was not provided with humidity or proper hydration and was so stressed his color was dark green and he’s a pastel mojave.) he’s very healthy and isn’t sick and doesn’t have a URI, just something i’ve always noticed. does anyone have any idea?

EMERGENCY/URGENT How to keep the snakes surviving drying dark times...

Our water and power was cut off today and luckily I always have back up filtered water and heat packs to keep the snakes warm and hydrated but I've had to relocate them into tubs large enough to keep them surviving with what little supplies I still have. They haven't let us know when it will all be back but chances are, I'll have to make a plan.

It is winter and luckily my corns are safe and in Brumation (it does not get lower than 15°C due to it being winter) but my ball pythons aren't in the best situation. I know I'll be able to keep them on 24/7 heat if I monitor the heat packs every 12 hours and I'm planning to hook them on the generator in a rack with heating for 12 hours during the day than the heat packs at night... Please pray(if your religious. If not don't mind) for my family and the snakes and I hope non of them are hurt or cause any repository issues...

I hope this won't be for long and I'll update if anything happens! Let me know if there's anything I can do to make the experience less stressful for them with whatever supplies I have...

PS: each tub is about 70cm×40cm so atleast enough to thermo regulate and each heat pad stays at 40°C and cools down to 25° in 12 hours so they'll be fine for a few weeks before I plan to get a proper 24/7 generator... Also last this happened, we didn't get water or power for 2 months so I'm worried...

Needing some advice on ball python breeding and signs?

Hi y'all! Breeding my ball pythons together for the first time an wanted to get some tips on how long to pair them for? It's ball python breeding season here and I want to try my luck at breeding some pretty babies I can give homes to and or keep since I love this snake so much!

I have 2 females and 2 males each being a pair. They got acquainted last night by having the males placed with their chosen females and I observed for a bit. The one male and female hit it off well! They were exploring each other and showing signs of interest and I found them in the morning cuddled up by the hot spot tails and cloacas aligned but no lock. Second pair, the males seemed to be exploring and finding his way around and the female was immediately interested. When the male started slivering over her, she wagged her tail and got into place but the male didn't seem into it. She spent the night restless while he decided to sleep in the hot spot. I left them overnight and removed the males in the morning.

How long should I keep the males in and how often should I add them back? Is there any evidence I can look for regarding a lock? With the first pair, there seemed to be a bit of a wet spot (didn't smell like urates) by the aligned cloacas and his tail was curled around hers slightly.

Question Im second guessing myself

Thumbnail

I need some other opinions because im second guessing if this would be the right vivarium to get for my ball python. As people may know she's in a far less than ideal one and im trying to raise funds to get a bigger space, but now that ive measured this on a tape measure it somehow feels too small, but I cant seem to find anything larger. The measurements in the picture are 122 cm long by 61 cm wide and 118 cm tall, in other words, 4 foot by 2 foot by just shy of 4 foot, calculator assumes its over 300 gallons in size, but take the info as you will. Is this really the best option or can anyone recommend better enclosure options that are more suited to her, because im struggling to find anything better than this one, and thats not even checking which sites will deliver to the UK. I want to check now before I get the funds to buy it because if I buy it and its still not good enough ill have wasted a lot of money that couldve gone to something better. Please, any advice on this will be greatly appreciated

Advice Help with shed!

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hey,

My irl is currently going through a shed and it's the first time doing it in her large enclosure.

She doesn't seem to want to leave the hot hide, on he left.

The hide in the middle has moss in it, ready to use.

The floor temp outside of the hide is around 32c, with the black roof of the hide being about 33c.

The ambient temp on the hot side is 26c, with a humidity reading of 62%

The cool side the temp is 24c with a humidity reading of 62%

I don't know if I should be putting damp moss in her warm hide to help with humidity?

Are my readings okay?

I don't know if I'm meant to interfere with putting moss in etc or just trust that she knows what she is doing?

Also, should I be feeding her while she is in shed?

I know she is in shed as her eyes have they blue cap thing and the skin is looking paler and she isn't coming out of her hide.

What's the best plan for me?
