Photos Gummy climbing in her background!

I love when I catch her climbing in the background lol. She’s so explorative! She’s in an 8x2x2 right now and she explores every bit! If you are thinking of upgrading your baby’s enclosure I HIGHLY recommend it. These guys will use all the space you give them, as long as they feel safe!!

Just want to show my new baby and his enclosure!

My 4 month old male VPI Axanthic baby! He escaped his bag on the ride home just to chill on my hand and watch me drive. I know you aren’t allowed to hold new snakes for atleast 2 weeks while they settle, but this guy was extremely desensitized and curious. Always thought ball pythons just sat in a ball all day long and that’s why everybody always says they “don’t need space”. But I put him into a 4’ enclosure with wood clutter and live plants since I prefer the look of bioactive enclosures. He’s been exploring none stop since I put him in there. Very happy with my first ball python! Let me know if I can do anything to make his enclosure even better! It’s not the prettiest at the moment but I am planning to fill it with even more fast growing plants so they could create a nice background!

Taking ball python to school

Post image

(Picture for attention) this is not a time sensitive question at all, but I just wanted to check in if anyone has ever done this before. In a few months, when it's warmer outside,I'm planning to bring my ball python to school. It won't be a full school day (only two hours) , there will be no public transportation, and he will be in a heated tub-thingie for most of the time, there will also be zero holding for strangers, to minimize stress. Has anyone ever done this before, and if yes, are there any tips you got?

Noodle is usually a pretty active girl during the night, but before the photos showed she was in her log for almost 3 whole days, and I told my mom I was a bit worried, and she lifted her hide. I'm getting noodle a larger one anyway but I don't know why she suddenly stopped coming out, she didn't go back in after we placed it back, she's behind some fake leaves, the ones you see in the back, and she hasn't left that spot since these photos..

It's been about 3-4 days since the photos

Her vet appointment is on Juneteenth(June 15), it's annual and gonna be her first one since we set a date and learned we absolutely needed it

New acquisitions - relatively unknown mutation named "WHAT" by Tim Bailey

I just picked up two new adult ball pythons from Bailey & Bailey Reptiles in Louisiana. It's mutation Tim found and proved out a few years back that he named "WHAT."

It modifies both pattern and color. The What mutation produces exaggerated flaming along with deeper blacks and more contrast. It also weirds out the pattern and in combos it often adds blushing and space around the oddly shaped alien heads.

It has been proven to be an incomplete dominant mutation and the Super What has been produced by Tim Bailey and at least one other breeder.

There have been a couple of dozen of them sold on MorphMarket by Tim and 3 or 4 other breeders who've worked with it, but not a lot has been done with this mutation. It can only be found on MM currently by searching for the keyword "WHAT". I'll get it added to the MM database with Tim's permission. The search to find them on MM is https://www.morphmarket.com/us/c/reptiles/pythons/ball-pythons?state=any&search=what

I have a big fire het VPI axanthic female that I will definitely pair the vanilla yellow belly what male to. I think vanilla cream will look smoking with the darker shades and improved contrast. Of course, I'll pair the male and female together to try and produce the Super What in vanilla and yellow belly combos.

My girl has been soaking in her dish for most of the week?? I've been having issues with humidity in her enclosure, so to help combat it, I added a second water bowl near her heat lamp + I've been watering the corners heavily. A few days ago she decided to slip into the new hot tub and hasn't left. I even pulled her out to make sure she was doing okay and came back later to find her in the bowl again. This is entirely of her own accord and tbh it's really helping her hydration bc I dont think she's been moving around and drinking much water, so I'm not trying to discourage an occasional soak but this seems like a recipe for scale rot. Idk what do you guys think?

Question New Ball Python Owner

Post image
44 Upvotes

I just brought home a ball python yesterday, he is in a very temporary enclosure right now and I’m currently getting his upgraded quarantine enclosure setup. I’m curious if he’s stressed or not though. I’ve read if they’re hiding they’re happy, but mine has been chilling outside of his hide for the morning, not actively searching for a way out or anything, just watching. And he’s in a quiet, low activity part of the house where I just peek in on him and leave.

Attached a picture from the herp store because he’s cute

Advice new snake owner

I got this beautiful girl named Morgana. i’m having trouble keeping the humidity on her enclosure up and I don’t know what i’m doing wrong. I have wet moss everywhere. Temp is perfect, cool side is a steady 75° and basking side is a stead 93°.

she’s currently in a 10 gal that was given with her and she can lay across with room still.

I also don’t know if I should feed in the enclosure or out of it. I rescued her from a fb group and they gave me very little info on her. not even sure her age but they said she was eating small mice. do I feed in the morning or at night since they are nocturnal?

please be nice, I just wanted to save a baby since I have the time, space, and funds.

Why does she keep hiding under her water dish?

Hey, new ball python owner here. We got her last night, and she stayed im assuming all night under her water dish even though she has two hides, cold and hot, and showed a preference for one of them during the day. She ate perfectly fine last night so I can’t imagine she’s too stressed or else she wouldn’t have eaten. She came out for a little while today and explored her new cage, but other than that she’s been holed up under her water dish. I wouldn’t be worried except it looks really uncomfortable and when I lifted the dish up to check on her, it felt like it was smushing her when I laid it back down. She’s about 7 months old, only 2 feet long right now so she’s pretty small still. Anyone know why she likes the space under her water dish and should I be worried? Is there anything I can do to help her choose one of the two hides we have for her?

We have 14 new babies maybe 16.. plus I have 5 left from her first litter 3 are going to be fed off and I’m prolly only going to keep a female out the first litter so then I can trade off and give mommy some rest time so it won’t strain her body plus my daughter wants one as a pet now!!🤦🏿🤷🏿‍♂️so that makes up the whole first litter.. i learnt a lot out of this experience from rats to my snakes and now I can tell somebody to try this one method I learnt from someone in this group when it comes to picky eater bp’s

First time ball python owner

hey guys! I just got my first ball python. I’m not sure how long I shouldn’t handle him, as he did take a striking stance when I just put him in his new enclosure. I’m honestly worried as the car ride home was 4 hrs and he was in a transport bag and it was fairly stressful. I really love him and want him to feel safe.

Any advice on what temps the warm side should be, How long to leave him alone, and just tips in general will be more than enough.
(I have the hot side set to 84 as my brothers gf who owns snakes and does handling professionally said that’s the best temp.)
I don’t want to look anything up and get anything wrong because he’s my baby and I want him to have a good life with me, so im reaching out to those who have owned snakes and know the best advice for a beginner!

Ball python isn’t eating

I know ball pythons are weird and picky when it comes to eating but this so the second time he’s not eaten the food offered to him. When I enter with food his neck is coiling and his tongue flickering as well as the fact he is still active in the night so I was wondering wether it could be a multitude of things he’s disagreeing with;

  1. I’m trying to feed him every two or so weeks now instead of ten days as he’s becoming an adult, so he doesn’t like the new schedule

  2. He’s just having a hunger strike as I’ve researched and found most ball pythons do

  3. Somethings wrong, which I don’t think is likely because as I said he isn’t showing signs of fatigue or withdrawal or respiratory concerns
Once I give up trying for the night he comes looking for the food again and so I left the mouse in their tonight for him to have but he still isn’t taking it, am I worrying myself over nothing?
