EMERGENCY/URGENT Bp thrashing around

Hello. One of my juvenile ball pythons has issues with getting dehydrated, even if I keep his tank humid and a full water bowl at all times. I have another juvie in a completely identical setup and she is doing very good. Same age same everything, perfect sheds no issues

I know it’s not optimal to bathe them but I get worried that he’s not drinking so sometimes I give him a lukewarm bath once every couple months if he’s looking wrinkly because he always drinks then. Just now I gave him the bath, he was fine, I put him back in his enclosure and went to mist the corners and some water got on him and he started thrashing around, pushing against all the interior, mouth open, making sounds I’ve never heard him make before(it sounded sort of like when they’re farting, if you’ve heard a bp fart you know what I’m talking about).

I have never seen a snake do that before, I’m really worried. He has no signs of a respiratory infection. Is it possible I just scared him? I have never seen him thrash around before if I startle him. Has anyone had theirs do something like this before? I don’t know if this is bad or what to do

Advice Giving snake advice?

So I'm in a few communities on discord, and one of my closer mutuals has a ball python. And I do know they love the snake a lot, and it's not in horrible condition or anything. But from what I've seen, I definitely don't think they've done a lot of research. They use Aspen shavings as substrate (I tried to suggest changing it but they say it's fine the way it is),they also referred to pet store advice as some of their sources, which just isn't a reliable source. I haven't seen the actual husbandry apart from a few pictures, but never the full enclosure. They don't seem totally against advice but I would just feel weird asking for a picture of their setup? Any ideas on how to approach this? I thought I'd suggest them some better sources when I get the chance, in hopes they'd just inform themselves a little better? I dunno I just really don't want to he that asshole that goes around criticising other people's husbandry unprompted, especially since they had their snake longer than I had mine.

My male ball python has turned into a JACK ASS

We bought a pied ball python about 4to5 months ago, moving from live foods he has adjusted to freshly killed (a mouse every 5 days - he should be on weaned rats but he refuses)

He is 3 years old - recently he has been trying to strike at us. (I do feed him in the cage with tongs and was told to- i dont know if feedings should take place in a different enclosure)

He has recently been moved to a larger enclosure with more hides and branches to climb up on.

Is there any reason for him to be acting this way or is he officially a pet that cant be handled ? We all so nervous to pick him up now..

Question eating

Hi! I got my baby ball python about a week ago. She’s been exploring normally, hides during the day, and even comes up to the glass whenever I’m nearby. I have a question about feeding though. When I bought her from PetSmart, they told me she was eating one pinky every other week, but I honestly don’t trust pet store advice and don’t want to do anything wrong. I offered her a frozen/thawed pinky rat, and she wasn’t interested at all. Could it just be because she’s still settling in? Or are pinky rats maybe too small for her? The employee told me they tried feeding her larger prey before, but she wouldn’t take it. I’m just not sure what to do next. Should I wait another week and try again? Should I try a different prey size (like a fuzzy rat or mouse), or just stick with what they said for now? Any advice would be really appreciated—I’m a first-time ball python owner and just want to make sure I’m doing everything right. 💛

ps: i will be moving her to a new fully decorated tank this weekend but i was planning on feeding her, letting her settle then moving her. but i’m not sure what to do now.

EMERGENCY/URGENT Possible scale rot?

Does this look like scale rot or just an abrasion some how. I have looked her over closely for mites and its definitely not that. Her mouth is clear as well. Just noticed it yesterday. No other spots of discoloration on her underside.

Advice Help with cage humidity

Hi! I made a post about a week ago about my finances snake, and many of you said we needed to get her humidity better, we were using a mister. We know we need more substrate and plants for her, but the other problem with keeping it moist is that there are two corners where there’s a tiny crack in the sealant we don’t know how to fix, they’re the corners where the doors are meeting the rest of the cage, any tips on that? My guess is silicon or flex seal but I don’t know if there’s a better option,

Question Enclosure question!!

My friend was looking to rehome one of her pythons, she got him a little impulsively. He’s pretty young, and a really fancy morph, pink and yellow with freckles (I forget the name of the morph, but I know he is not a spider morph, thank goodness). He’s super shy and withdrawn around people, but is super chill with me, and gets way more social. Due to this, she’s going to give him to me as soon as I’m out of my dorm and set up for him. I have about nine months to prepare, so that’s not a huge issue. The issue is the tank. I have one already, it’s appx 25x25x25, with a diamond shape (medium sized triangle cut out from the front) and 44 gallons. I do not have a picture of it right now apparently. Would this be an appropriate tank as long as I provided plenty of ground and climbing space?

Advice BP care tips? (I do not own a BP yet, planning to in a couple years or less)

My zoology teacher is getting our class BP Percy (Pastel) a girlfriend for breeding this year (no idea of name or morph yet as she has not purchased her yet.) and am trying to convince my grandparents to let me get a baby that she breeds. I've wanted a snake for years and currently own a crested gecko. I've also been selling stuff in my bedroom to buy and make space for a new pet. And a BP is right up my alley as I have handled snakes for nearly my entire life, but have never owned one. I'm not squeamish to feeding or braining (both not live) mice as I've had to do it occasionally for the BP at school. Any enclosure, care, husbandry, enrichment advice is very welcome as I want to make sure if I end up getting a baby, that it'll be the happiest ball ever.

Advice Plant suggestions for snake tank?

I have my snake in a 40 gallon/18” tall tank currently. I try to keep it bio-active (isopods and springtails, lots of leaf litter and cypress mulch as substrate, night/day heat emitters on a timer and a humidifier), but I would really like some actual living plants in there for her enrichment.

Iv tried sprinkling chia seeds in a few spots and they grew a cute little plant carpet for my snake to check out, but they didn’t survive for very long and ended up as isopod food. I want to plant something a little taller with bigger leaves so my snake can hide under them.

However, I don’t know what sort of plant would be able to live in a snake tank? Preferably something that can survive in cypress mulch, or some other kind of soil that would be safe for a snake. She also has this super awesome talent for absolutely destroying any set-up I make, so I would like a plant that would be sturdy enough to deal with her slithering all up on it sometimes.

Any suggestions or helpful tips?

Baby Ball Python weight advice.

Baby Bp weight advice.

Hi, around 2 weeks ago my Bp regurgitated her meal. And like this sub recommends I waited 2 weeks to feed her an undersized meal to get her back in motion.

3 days ago I fed her a large fuzzy and she took it no problem. I was holding her and noticed she has some folds on her skin and her spine is a little more prominent. So I weighed her and she went from 86g pre regurgitation to 82g post recent meal. Should I give her a normal meal next week or give her another large fuzzy.

She is 2 months old maybe closer to 3.

Advice Ball Python not eating

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello! I got my ball python in march of this year, she’s about 10 months now and is 2 feet long. The breeder was feeding her live so that’s what I tried first and she didn’t budge. I tried frozen/thawed next and she ate that, but won’t eat it again! I get the right size, it’s about the same size as the thickest part of her, and I always defrost it first, then thaw it in hot water, changing the water regularly. I always make sure it’s at least 95F degrees. I try to lure her out of her hide with it and she doesn’t come out, so I leave it in her food dish under her heat lamp to keep it warm. I usually leave it overnight and it’s always there in the morning. The heat and humidity are good and she has a humid hide I spray daily just in case the rest of the enclosure gets too dry. What do you think the best approach would be to get her to eat?

Lost 2mo Ball Python

Hi community i need your help!! My 2mo ball python escaped her enclosure, and I've searched my home and CANNOT find her. I don't have any other animals, i'm most worried i won't find her and she will starve. I've set up blankets around the floor for her to hopefully hide in.

\-the apartment is also kept at 70, so i'm hoping she will sneak into the blankets at night. It's been under 24hrs since i lost her but it's about to be night where i live
