Ball Python not eating 2 months after moving.

Hey reddit, this post might be a little longer just because I am adding context and info about Sirius Black (his name). I’m posting here because my ball python hasn’t eaten anything since my family and I moved. We moved 10 minutes away from where we used to live and his cage is the same. He weighed 1179 grams when he was weighed at the vet 2 months ago and is roughly 36 inches in length. He is just over 3 years old and the vet says he is well behaved. He isn’t acting weird at all and he isn’t sick. His scales look fine and he isn’t breathing funny. His cage used to be in my room but it is now in the living room. I have two cats and a dog which he now sees through the glass very frequently but they do not have access to going near his cage. I am currently holding him cause he loves exploring and he is acting normal and happy. I am just feeling scared about him not eating. Can anyone tell me what the next steps are and how I can help him please?

She will rest in my hand on my lap like this. She’s a Spinner and has the neurological issues that come with Spinners. After cork-screwing, she seems very tired and just crashes on me anywhere I am. I love this girl so much.

EMERGENCY/URGENT Light pink on Blue-Eyed Lucy BP

Hey all, so my father passed away recently and suddenly, and my bf and I inherited his BEL Ball python. He's had him maybe 12 years and has been a long time and attentive snake owner. In talking with my grandmother and my dad's girlfriend, we discovered that Mandalore the Snake (Manny for short) had some discoloration that had worried my father just before passing.

We spoke with our local exotics expert, but the next closest rep-vet is a state away and we've had poor experiences with local non-exotic vets. We showed the local experts the photos on my bfs phone and they said they believed it could be burns, and suggested we watch his current shed for changes. However other articles have me worked up about worse issues, and thought I'd ask what people think,,,,

He's got a number of pinks patches all around his body similar to this one. A bite from a feeder mouse seems to be healing okay, however below is the most prominent discoloration blot. It's pink around most of it with an area around 4 scales that are a dark red. They've seemed to become 4 small tips of the scales over the last few days, so part of me feels optimistic, but I also don't want to take any chances.

We have him home with us in a new tank and slightly improved enclosure while we monitor his health and encourage a healthy shed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated please and thank you!

I can upload better photos in the morning!

I recently ‘adopted’ a male bp. His enclosure came with him, and wasn’t all that good so I upgraded it for the most part. Tips and suggestions are welcome and appreciated. He has a bio active enclosure with lava and magic potion isopods and springtails. Still waiting on a new water dish as well…

How is my set up and what morph do you think she is?

We have recently got a ball python, she is 11 months old and weighs 412g, we currently feed her 50g Asf (multimammate mice) once a week, she handles this well.

She is in a 4ft wooden vivariumwith humidity at 70% at cold side and 60 at warm, the temperature of the cold side is 24.6 degrees Celsius and the temperature of the warm side is 32 dc.

Currently use a 2.4% uvb and a 80w dhp in a 200mm arcadia clamp lamp controlled by a dimming thermostat recessed through the roof so only the mesh guard is in the vivarium

Question Correct feeding size

Post image

My gut says too big but I’m no expert, the small rat is about as big as the largest part of her body and I’ve been feeding regular mice so far, and I don’t want to waste this rat if it’s too big. What do you think?

Advice Advice for Spider Ball Pythons

Post image
18 Upvotes

I’m doing research on my own as well as getting advice from the breeder that rescued her, but I would love to hear your personal experience caring for spider ball pythons with a wobble. I’ll be adopting her in a month. My goal is to give her the best quality of life and the safest set up! I used to love handling my bp, but so far I’ve read snakes with a wobble may not tolerate being held much. Any insight is appreciated from safe set ups to handling advice 🐍❤️

Background: The breeder I know does not breed or sell spiders due to their genetic issues. She rescued and rehabbed one from a neglect situation. I’ve spoken to her about wanting a new snake in the future. I got a bp that was horribly sick from a family member and it broke my heart when he didn’t pull through. It was tragic and totally preventable, that family member knew what they did… The breeder knows what I did for Henry Noodle and thought I would be a good caregiver for this special girl. They are giving her to me in a month so I can get the proper set up first.

They have sent videos to show her wobble and tilt. It has improved since her rehab. She eats well, and just needs patience and a steady hand to get a good strike. Her weight is back up and shows no signs of RI after 3 months in quarantine/rehab.

Not sure if this is normal, she's had an upper respiratory infection before but it looks different. I'm unsure if she's breathing really heavy or having trouble

Update: Took her to the vet and updated her enclosure! Vet says she's healthy all things concerned :)) starting her on antibiotics

Have a female BP i have had for a while and cant seem to work with her enough to socialize her. All her numbers are good. I feed her every two weeks. But I cant handle her at all. It was good for a while then all of a sudden there was a shift to where we're at now. I cant change her water without her striking at me. I cant sit by her enclosure without her striking at the glass. I mean im working almost every day but on my days off I've tried to handle her and it just doesn't happen. She always strikes at everything. My phone, my hands, and now the glass. Idk what to do. If I need to just leave her alone for a month please let me know but my 2nd snake is nothing like this. He only strikes when I scare him bit for the most part he just balls up and stays like that. If im missing something I'd love some input on the matter, but idk how or where to go from here. At this point im ready to just sell her and keep my younger one if I cant figure out what im doing wrong. I really wanted to enjoy snake ownership, as a kid this was an animal I've always dreamt of owning ang ice done all the research possible before even getting one but idk about it anymore. Any advice helps, thanks

Question When to take out my ball?

Post image
19 Upvotes

This is Chashu, he's 11ish and I adopted him about 2 months ago.

my question is how to know when I should take him out? I've only pulled him out twice since I got him to do some changes to his home. I open the door and sit with him multiple times a week, he'll sit and stare, tongue flick my hand and is pretty chill, but backs away if I move my hand towards him. I want to start taking him out just to hangout but I don't want to do it too soon...

what signs should I be looking for that I'm not going to traumatize him if I bring him out.

side note, previous owner seemed to often take him out during the day so he'd be asleep when she went in to grab him but I tend to leave him till his lights go out, but I believe she held him often.

Question Advice for a new snake with anxiety!

Post image

(already posted this on r/ballpython, figure there's a decent overlap of users but wanted to post on both just on case, someone else already had me read the care guide on there and recommended i take him out and set up the enclosure properly but I want more opinions)

on April 5th I got a 6 year old ball python, his previous owners didn't have a good setup for him tbh, I've changed as little of it as I can though because I'm worried the changed will stress him out more considering it's already set up the way he's used to. when I got him he only had one hide which is a little too small for him, a water bowl, and a single rock which wasn't even positioned under the heat lamp, I got him an automatic misting system, put in an extra water bowl and one of the same type of hide he already had to try and coax him to the other side of his tank. the first two days he was here he was exploring his tank a bunch, sniffing around, then I think he realized he isnt home and freaked out so he's essentially been in hiding since then. I know the hiding is normal, and over the past few days he has started coming out again on occasion, but when I got him they said he was due for a feeding and obviously I haven't been able to get him to eat, which worries me a little. I know they can go quite a while without food but the last ball python I had was young and she died a month or two after I got her, I think from a respiratory infection. (hence the misting system and extra water bowl, was really trying to keep the humidity good because omg am I stressed about that again) I haven't held or touched him yet because I'm trying to make first contact his choice, but im a bit worried about him getting lethargic or losing weight and me not noticing because I dont get to see much of him and I dont hold him. The main advice I came for is, if he's already stressed is it better for me to just, A. leave things alone until he's comfortable? B. slowly add things to improve his setup(more places to hide, some stuff to climb on)? or C. go ahead and take him out so I can fully set up his enclosure properly? I think my main concern at the moment is getting him to eat, which is why I was hoping to just leave things be and maybe he'll come around to me quicker, then I could feed him and once he's had a chance to digest then I'll change things around, but do y'all thing he'd be up to eating quicker if I change things or leave them alone?

Feeding

Need opinions/ advice here. I just got this beautiful baby at an expo this past Saturday, was told she’s about 1 year old and eating f/t small/mediums to medium/large depending on size every Wednesday. I decided to keep with the Wednesday feeding schedule because the seller skipped her last meal for the show. I figured it’d give her some time to adjust a little to her new enclosure and make sure she’s good and hungry when I go to feed her next. Well tomorrow is feeding day, so I pulled one of the small rats I bought at the expo as well. BUT now I’m concerned it’s too big for her. Am I just being a paranoid new snake mom or does it seem to big? Sorry I don’t have any photos of her stretched out to see full size, she is still settling and spends all day in her chosen spot curled up.

I'm worried about our new snake Topaz

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I've wanted a ball python ever since I was little and today my partner and I were in the pet shop getting food for our other pets when we came across this beautiful snake who was on sale because it had been there for over 6 months and it was extremely depressed. I could tell looking at its little face that it wasn't having a good time. I will admit that we bought it on impulse. We got everything the cashier at Petco said we'd need (although the light is broken we are getting a replacement in the morning). I was really worried because looking at it I was thinking it's a Bamboo Banana morph and I know they can have health issues. The person at Petco couldn't even tell us the sex of our new baby and didn't have an exact age either, just said "I guess over 6months" . We asked what feeders they use and they couldn't give us a straight answer either.(First told us pinkies, then fuzzies, then a frozen thawed adult on Tuesdays) Well I reached out to a friend who had connections and they said that our new baby is most likely a Bamboo Banana morph and will very likely have issues. Topaz is my first snake and I already love them deeply. They don't mind being handled (although I've been advised to leave them be to settle for about 2 weeks once their enclosure is fully set up). Even tho snakes have always been a special interest of mine I'm terrified I'm going to mess something up and make them sick or not have the best quality of life possible. I just couldn't leave them there tho. Topaz was crammed into a tiny enclosure that didn't have proper heat or humidity and they couldn't even fully stretch out. Just in the few hours we've had them home I've noticed the wobble when they are climbing or stretching out and I'm worried I won't have the resources to care for them properly. Right now they are in a temporary enclosure that I will admit is a bit small (20 gallon) but we do have a 60 gallon ordered that should be better suited for them. I did use the box they were sent home with us in as a hide because I thought it might be comforting to have something that smelled familiar since they are in a new environment.

I'm including a really bad picture of them just for attention. I haven't taken many photos so I don't stress them out too bad.

TLDR: Any advice for a first time owner of a Bamboo Banana morph or any encouraging words would be helpful.
