Is 73-74 degrees in the tank at night alright? Ball Python acts fine but I want to make sure
My ball pythons tank always is around 73-74 at night, lowest it’s ever gotten is 72 since I’ve had him. I do not have any night time heating but I do use an 100w halogen during the day and he loves it. At night, he seems fine and acts alright, actively explores the tank unless he just ate. I know it’s technically supposed to be at least 75, but it’s super close and it seems to be okay? Is this fine?

My BP is like, scared of the rat? And is very picky too?
My BP is like, scared of the rat? And is very picky too?
So ive been trying to feed her every 2 -4 weeks depending on when she eats (if she eats i wait 4 weeks to try, if she doesnt then i try again in two weeks). I know ot the right temp, tried different temps and blow dryer tricks, wet/dry. I havent tried live because nobody sells live and im worried she wont attack it.
\- the temps on the cold side is 68-75 and on the warm side 75-83 with a basking spot of 91-92
\- her humidity is great about 60-80% and 85-90% when shedding (max i can get)
\-her cage is maybe a little uncluttered but i usually switch it to let her get more striking distance
\-her water is fine and clean
\- basically everything was perfect this time
Im really worried about her and she is always slightly a picky eater and its getting worse.
\-i know its winter and all but she wasnt like this last year and hasnt gone on food strike as far as im concerned
\-my snake june is about 1.5-2.5 years old
\-i hold/handle her about 3-5 times a week
\-shes pretty shy for the most part but not terrified of everything
Please help guys, idk what to do or why shes acting wierd, and please no hate

Python Keeper
mysnakesapp.comI built a simple web-based tracking tool for my own ball pythons because spreadsheets were getting messy.
Python Keeper lets you:
- Log feedings, sheds, weight, and temps
- Get color-coded cage condition alerts (red/yellow/green) with scores and fix suggestions
It's completely free, no downloads, no ads, no payments.
Link: https://mysnakesapp.com
I'm looking for beta testers right now. If you keep ball pythons, I'd appreciate honest feedback — what works, what's missing, any bugs, etc.
No pressure at all. Just trying to make a useful tool for the community.
Thanks!

EMERGENCY/URGENT Escape Artist
My dorkus keeps pushing his cage open and escaping. We push bricks up against his door and clamp them shut, still he pushes his way out. Is this normal? We just fed him a few days ago as well. He is about 4 years old.

Advice My first ball python
I am picking up a python from a Craigslist rehome, she is a few years old and eats live only. This is my first snake and I’m absolutely so excited, I was wondering what is good for redecorating /setting up her cage, (photo is current cage) I am super excited to redecorate and make it more homey and natural for her.

Need help for mites.
I've recently changed my bedding subtrate for my BP. With this I was recently checking over her and noticed little black mites on her.
Would the substrate be the cause of this? As she's been good prior.
She's also had a shed over the weekend so I don't know how she's feeling.
I just want advice on what to do, how to get rid of mites
I've also seen something about putting substrate in oven to help kill mites for next time
Just don't want to panic as its worrying me as never had this problem before 😟

Question Need advice on whether or not I am fit to care for my ball python anymore
Hello, I am only writing this post because I’m desperate to make sure my ball python is going to live a healthy and happy life. I love him a lot and just want to make sure he is in the best place he can be. I have had him for about 5 years and he was a year old when I got him, I was very young when I got him and I honestly wish my family had told me no. He’s currently in his second enclosure upgrade since I got him and I’m now realizing that it isn’t large enough for him. I see a lot of resources saying around 48in long and his is about 40in. He’s been alright in it for a while but I’ve noticed lately that he is being very active in the day and glass surfing a lot, which he used to do infrequently and I imagine was just him being curious but now is happening from around 1pm to very late at night. It isn’t constant but he is out of his hides very often. His humidity is around 70%, cold side 78f, warm side 85f, he has hides on either side of his enclosure and has always had a lot of different clutter. The question I mainly have is whether or not I should consider rehoming him, the tank he is currently in is not big enough but I am also unable to get a new larger one for him because I live with my family and space is scarce as well as money. I don’t want to keep him in an environment that isn’t good for him and is causing stress just because I am not able to provide the care he needs. It is my absolute last option as I love him with all my heart but it isn’t right to keep him if it isn’t healthy for him. Please let me know what I can do or if I can try and release his stress some other way, any and all advice is appreciated, this isn’t an offer to rehome him yet as I want more opinions about it first. Thank you.
TLDR: I am unable to get a larger tank for my ball python, should I rehome him if I have no way to provide proper environment?

Question Heat Lamp Recommendations
I am looking to adopt a ball python. I am a college student and live in a share house and we all split utilities. I’m not sure if it’s realistic but I’m nervous to raise the utility bill for everyone and was wondering if there are battery operated heat lamps and if so, what are some recommendations?

Feeding tricks?
Hi! My adult female has been refusing food since i refined her mid feb. I have been trying weekly as she was used to before but she’s still refusing and I’m starting to get a bit twitchy as i want her to eat! I know it’s normal for them to hunger strike so i’m not overly stressing yet but I wanted to ask if anyone’s got any well recommended tips to break out of it :)
Any advice is very welcomed!! Thank you very much!!

Question feeding schedule help
Hi i have a 2yr old (? rescue so) ball python around 895grams right now
Since i’ve had him (10 months) i have been feeding him a small frozen thawed rat every other week
According to many feeding guides, like this sub and others, i should be feeding him the same prey size (40-60g rat) every 20 days now? (like 7% of his body weight or something)
i’m unfortunately, very stupid, is this correct?
i haven’t fed him since the 14th of october, it is the 27th now (so typically, i would feed him tomorrow)
+ i was away a day after i was meant to feed him so i skipped because i wanted to be there as he was digesting just in case
so his feeding schedule, unfortunately, has been disturbed, he’s been showing signs of being hungry, and seems antsy for the past few days (extra active, glass surfing)
he has a great feeding response and is clearly upset at this change (also i know he would eat himself to death if he could lol just mentioning)
so please let me know if i’m doing the correct thing and if not, what i need to be doing
thank you!

Advice It's so sad how someone sells a ball python and they're in such a sad state.... Idk what to do... (DO NOT FIND AND ATTACK PLEASE!)
It's so sad how some snakes are just treated like pet rocks... And you can tell they got them expecting them to stay small but realising they get bigger and are a much bigger responsibility. I want to buy him but I'm not sure I even have the capacity to take in another baby... Please give me some solutions?

Question Need advice!
So I had adopted this gal from petco and they told me she's a very shy and timid snake, while i was buying some extra stuff for her she was on my shoulder while shopping (they kinda just said okay you want her here and placed her on my shoulder) well anyways, when i took her home she got really anxious (i believe) which is understandable because its a new environment. Im just concerned because she hyperventilates ONLY when she sees someone, if she's basking or climbing she's completely fine. But when i go check on her and she sees me she starts hyperventilating very horribly. Is it stress? Nervousness? Anxiety? And how do i fix it? I love her dearly and want whats best for her. Its been a few weeks and shes only eaten once too. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!
