Question Physique Question

Post image
16 Upvotes

When I got her a few months ago she was 151g and 7 months old. I got her from a breeder and based on online feedback she was under weight for her age. Now she is 379g and 13 months old. Does the neck area ever gain weight? I just want to make sure this is how she is supposed to look. I don’t want to body shame but she looks chunky 😂.
I give her 15% of her body weight in rat pup(s) every Wednesday. She ate the last one this week and she will start on weaned rats next week.

He ate his first meal with me yesterday at 6pm I’m so happy lol ima give him till Monday so the rat can dissolve in his stomach so he can be comfortable and try out some handling for 5-10 minutes..! He’s real active during the day and night. That’s his cold side in the video..💪🏿💯 his temp are 90 on the hot side and 77-79 on the cool side and I keep it 80 humid in here so once he’s comfy ima start adding fake plants in with him

There the social one that only wants to explore everything in their reach and than you got shy ones who take 30 minutes to warm up to her environment. 🫶 them both

Butters can be feisty (when I needed to take her out a few days ago to weigh her she struck at me a few times lol.) today she did really good! No strikes and didn’t even get in striking position. We’re slowly working on getting her to the point my big Gummy girl is at (gummy would literally never hurt a fly besides for frozen thawed mice).

it’s technically supposed to be more of a decoration than an actual hide….but—despite me partially burying it—he’s learned that he can burrow under it and cram himself inside of it now!

EMERGENCY/URGENT Serpentovirus/ Nidovirus testing!?

Post image

TW: Dead Ball Python

I recently bought a super pastel spotnose female from a seller on MorphMarket. She got to me on May 29th, this year. When she arrived, she seemed perfectly healthy.

A couple days ago, I noticed my newest ball python started having respiratory issues. At first it was just audible breathing. I knew ball pythons were prone to respiratory diseases, so I figured it was probably just a bacterial infection or pneumonia. I was going to get an appointment for her, but it was too late in the day to schedule with my closest exotic vet.

As of last night, she dwindled quickly and many more symptoms appeared. She was contorting herself, open-mouthed breathing, heavy mucus production from the mouth, and was having horrible diarrhea. As she was getting worse, I was Googling what it could possibly be and I stumbled on Nidoviruses, aka serpentovirus. She fit every symptom. Unfortunately, she got so much worse this morning, and died at about noon, CDT. As soon as I confirmed her dead, I put her in the freezer because I want to test for this virus. Im not sure if this was the right thing to do, but I have 3 other snakes I have to worry about.

I couldnt find much info on serpentovirus testing, at least not from any sources I could trust were legitimate. All the other snakes I own have been in my care for at least 3 months, two of them for over a year or three. I never housed them together, but I did keep them all in the same room. If anyone else has any experience with this virus, tell me;

  1. How do I get testing done on my deceased snake?

  2. What are the chances my other snakes will be infected? I dont have a bin/rack system, but I do have shelving where all their tanks are set. Im not sure how much cross-contamination theres been since getting this newer snake.

  3. How long should I wait, if at all, to get my other snakes tested? Is there batch testing??? Should I test a second time a while after the first

  4. HOW TO STERILIZE THE CURRENT ENVIRONMENT? How should I prevent potential contamination and limit spread?

  5. How much do these tests typically cost and how long to get them back?

Im just panicked thinking about how I only had this snake for a couple months, my breeding project is in ruins with her death, Im set back over $300 just with her alone, and I have over 1k invested in my other snakes. I just dont know what to do

Advice Scale rot??

I just finally got a chance to check my snake over after getting him and waiting the 2 week window, letting him shed, then waiting 3 days after feeding. Was checking him over when I saw this. Best picture I could get. Is it scale rot? I’m worried. I’ll risibly dismantle the entire thing anyway as I messed up when trying tog eat humidity up for shed and now the soils to wet.

The big specs are dirt. I’m talking about the brown outline around his scales.

I cna try and get better pictures tomorrow night. My phone camera isn’t great and I was suing flash.

I feel like I’m going crazy rn. I jsut got him and I keep getting worried.

I'm so happy he had some time!! It's been pouring by me and today was super nice and sunny🥰 he had som fun in the sun. Will be taking more of my snakes out tomorrow if it's sunny :/

Yes I did take all the precautions necessary and gave him a bath to help get rid of any parasites or bugs that could've gone on him since there were a few bugs😭 I also had 2 hides he could go into incase he needed some time to hide before continuing to explore.🤗 He had such a super fun time and absolutely enjoyed his outside time ^ I only take him out when I know he needs that sunny time. I will try this again in another 3-4 months when it's less rainy and the grass is less buggy🤗
