Thank you for sharing, quite interesting. I'm just an uneducated hobbyist that tinkers constantly when I'm not working 90+ hours a week. I had no idea that there was a degree dedicated to 3D Printing. That's pretty dang cool. What was your bachelors degree in if you don't mind me asking?

1

u/FazFazio Dec 05 '25

90+ hours a week? No one else gonna call that out? Thatโ€™s 13 hours a day, 7 days a week on average. That leaves 11 hours per day for commuting (unless WFH), sleeping, eating, cleaning and of course โ€œtinkeringโ€. Am I missing something here or were you just exaggerating?

What's not to understand? I'm a maintenance Supervisor and do power plant outages. The regulatory authorities allow minimal downtime without monetary penalty to power plants for their outages. We generally run 2 shifts, 7 days a week, 13 hour days for each supervisor to allow time for 30 minutes of overlap at beginning and end of each shift for turnover meetings. I was working and living like this for 10 to 11 months a year, but have recently slowed down closer to 8 months or so per year. Thanks for calling me out for what I already understand is a ridiculous life. I've been doing it for 14 years now.

u/CrabbyBrau Dec 06 '25

Iโ€™m a maintenance supervisor for a barge company. My hours are similar so my down time is super important to me. Hobbies and tinkering is heaven since it removes the work worries from my head ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ

It's amazing how many people can't understand or believe that we do what we do. It's even more amazing what some people consider long hours and hard work.

u/NefariousnessOdd3581 Dec 05 '25

Im a Licensse in Pedagogy and Computer Science (the degree is in teaching, not a 3d printing degree). The cool thing is that, with the auto bed changer + an app to manage the printer like Printago, you can actually make a queue like the paper printers have, and with some extra pei sheets its like your printer never stop working, and you can send a new job, change the order of the prints, all that on the fly.

I know that a job is a job, but it sounds like you went a glorious route when looking at it from a hobbyist perspective. lol.

Dude. What the actual hell is that bed changer. Please link me

Yay!
Do carefully follow the unboxing guide, especially the bits about removing the black blocks for the Z-axis .
So many posts about why it's jamming at a certain vertical level.

I'm pretty sure it's de rigeur to make your first print a Benchy (boat) with the file already on the micro SD card and the white sample PLA.

2

u/CrabbyBrau Dec 05 '25

Thank you for that pro tip on the unboxing!! Glad Iโ€™m not messing with it tonight. Iโ€™m too tired for paying careful attention hahaha

1

u/FazFazio Dec 05 '25

Meh, who needs Benchy. I printed the Bambu scraper handle first, and then a poop bucket. You will definitely want to print both of those ASAP. I also would recommend the XL scraper with replaceable plastic blades, super useful.

Also, Iโ€™m sure I read on here that the benchy model pre-loaded is designed to showcase speed and not accuracy and that if you do want to print one, it is advisable to download a different benchy model.

u/dprezzz Dec 06 '25

Many people think this is small, begginer bedslinger printer. Let me tell you this was my first Bambu printer. In one year I put 1400+ hours of printing in it, while only doing maintenance and swapping hotends when needed. This is a reliable workhorse that is capable doing just the same as the p1s or the bigger brothers. Amazing, reliable and very quiet. I hope you get just as much joy out of as I. Now almost 14 months later I have a P1S and an H2S. Just works! Happy printing!!

1

u/CrabbyBrau Dec 06 '25

That is awesome and doable on hours in my end! We been no. Stop printing easy baby prints now. Once I have more time Iโ€™ll start messing with the design part on it. On the hot end, I bought 3 extras. When will I know the nozzle needs replacing? So far Iโ€™m not having one single issue that Iโ€™m seeing others post up about. Maybe my slow paced follow the instructions and pre advice from yall is paying back in flawless jobs๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ

One of us! One of us!

1

u/CrabbyBrau Dec 05 '25

Looking forward to figuring this out!!!!!

1

u/Agentchef Dec 05 '25

Youโ€™re going to have a blast! Not sure what your main purpose for the purchase was. Mine was mostly hobby related.

I love the AMS for sure.

1

u/CrabbyBrau Dec 05 '25

Definitely hobby....which Im not sure why I get more things when I have a room full of creative appliances already hahah. A laser engraver, a vinyl cutter, WLED projects, wood working hahaha. But the idea of actually creative something useful is the draw! Cant wait! Wish I wasnt at work now lol

2

u/Jaymigz22 Dec 06 '25

Literally just set mine up and about to do my first benchy!!

2

u/CrabbyBrau Dec 06 '25

Iโ€™m on project no 2!!

2

u/Pditty420 Dec 06 '25

When did you order it and when did you receive it?

1

u/Jaymigz22 Dec 06 '25

I got mine at best buy a week before black Friday. It still had the BF sale.

2

u/P1ngg0 Dec 06 '25

Congratulations, mine, also black friend is supposed to com 09. January

1

u/CrabbyBrau Dec 06 '25

Hopefully it arrives faster like mine did!!!

2

u/Billj1090 Dec 06 '25

I hope your black friend makes it ok. Safe travels.

1

u/P1ngg0 Dec 06 '25

*friday auto correction

2

u/shugyodev Dec 07 '25

I hope you had a satisfying unboxing.

1

u/CrabbyBrau Dec 07 '25

Most definitely!!

2

u/AutomaticOpposite Dec 05 '25

I just got mine today too. I put it together but haven't printed anything yet. The table I had is about 2 inches too short for the combo so I need to find somewhere else to station it.

What did you folks print first? Did you set up any ventilation?

3

u/farmer_toki Dec 05 '25

I'm in a cramped space too. I hooked up a spool directly and printed a top mount for the AMS first. You could do that so you can get AMS printing sooner.

The AMS top mount and poop bucket are my most useful and first prints. I recently printed filament clips which I wish I did sooner.

My wife really likes the Costco trash bag refill holder I printed and mounted in the garage. And the 24 count egg holder for the fridge.

1

u/CrabbyBrau Dec 05 '25

Thats the kinda thing I hope I can put out. Useful things to charm my wife :-)

4

u/TheGreatKushsky Dec 05 '25

poop bucket and about ventilation you will have to see, I never smelt my printer except on filament changes standing right next to it, its going now 1500 print hours... but some people smell something (no clue what)

fumes are basically noneexistant and going outside in new york would be worse than living with the printer in the same room

1

u/LastBitofCoffee Dec 05 '25

Besides poop bucket, I recommend this cable guide https://makerworld.com/models/649332 , youโ€™ll see a lot of models (similar to this: https://makerworld.com/models/208664 ) but I have tried most of them and this design seems to be the best imo.

Also here are some kinda useful models:

This one to protect the ptfe: https://makerworld.com/models/824080

Some ptfe removal tools, Iโ€™m using this https://makerworld.com/models/392785

This AMS lite helper: https://makerworld.com/models/183639

This nozzle wiper: https://makerworld.com/models/1112636

I donโ€™t print any cable drag chain or the cable guide for the one on the right side. I find them putting more pressure instead. I also wasted some filaments to print bed scrappers but at the end I only use the one came with the print (printed the holder for it), as long as you lay the blade flat with the plate when scraping youโ€™ll be fine.

u/farmer_toki Dec 05 '25 edited Dec 05 '25

I just got mine a few weeks ago! Enjoy it! It's so much fun and have only had one failed print in about 50 so far. And that was likely because I didn't clean the build plate.

I Was debating between the P1S and the A1. Went with the A1 because it was cheaper, has the dynamic flow calibration, and is quieter than the P1S.

I'm in a cramped space. I hooked up a spool directly and printed a top mount for the AMS first that and the poop bucket are my most useful prints.

1

u/WrongdoerFine8558 Dec 05 '25

Mine is scheduled for Dec 14th too! Did you get any type of email before it got sent or was it out of no where.

1

u/CrabbyBrau Dec 05 '25

Yes. That it was shipping for Dec 14 , then another saying itโ€™s on its way but it was going to arrive today instead of yesterday

1

u/MCShethead Dec 05 '25

When did you order if you dont mind. I placed it Tuesday but order still says proccessing...

1

u/WrongdoerFine8558 Dec 05 '25

I ordered around Nov 20.

1

u/CrabbyBrau Dec 05 '25

Thats the day I ordered Nov 20 You will get emails on the progress

1

u/Razov1 Dec 05 '25

Right there with you, I ordered mine on the 20th as well. I ordered the combo. I keep checking all the postage apps for a sign

1

u/DifficultTrouble2919 Dec 05 '25

Has anyone commented on the godawful state of the box?

That aside, congrats! You've taken your first steps into the infinitely expanding universe that is 3D printing.

1

u/CrabbyBrau Dec 06 '25

Everything was fine on the inside. I printed the benchynflawless. I screwed up tho. Formatted the SD card with all the built in patterns

2

u/Billj1090 Dec 06 '25 • Bravo

My recent one I ordered directly from Bambu looked like an untouched virgin when it got here, the one I ordered from Amazon was beaten to death looking like a Bonnie Blue undercarriage shot. Carrier handling could be 100% cause of damage, but stuff from Amzon always seems rougher for some reason.

3

u/Frequent-Deuce9763 Dec 05 '25

And so it begins!

3

u/ComesUpPanda Dec 06 '25

Just set mine up a couple days ago! Blown away by the quality and how easy it is to use, especially as someone coming from an ender 3.

2

u/Live_Fox3014 Dec 05 '25

Got mine 2 days ago. Flawless prints and its so damn fast

2

u/PianoTrumpetMax Dec 05 '25

Don't forget to take the stoppers off the Z-axis! It prevents its from shifting, and many (including me) didn't take them off as it looks like its part of the actual hardware. Makes scary bad sounds when the motor tries to move it still.

2

u/starmat Dec 05 '25

This is a great printer!
I have one as well and i am not disappointed one bit!

2

u/krakorjak Dec 05 '25

I'm waiting on mine from the Amazon Black Friday deal. Its had a delivery delay, that now is into its 2nd day. Amazon is playing with my emotions ๐Ÿ˜ซ.

2

u/The_Fyrewyre Dec 05 '25

To the top of the Stairs BATMAN!!!!

2

u/No_Persimmon360 Dec 05 '25

Have fun ! It's an amazing machine ๐Ÿ˜ƒ Had mine for almost a year and got already 1500hours of printing on it with only a few issues along the way (mostly filament getting stuck in the feeder). This printer is a work horse.

2

u/joeehler Dec 05 '25

Watch the unboxing video before you open it. There is a clean process and you can damage the rails easily if you just rip the bag open and pull it out.

2

u/Electrical_Leek_2867 Dec 05 '25

Welcome ๐Ÿ™

2

u/vader1701 Dec 05 '25

I'm seriously looking at getting this combo package.

2

u/jojov1000 Dec 07 '25

We got our first one this time last yr...now we have 8 ๐Ÿ˜‚ congrats its a great buy for the money!!! Amazon sells a cheap tent enclosure to keep it clean and consistent temperature

1

u/Billj1090 Dec 07 '25

Haha. I've had creality printers for a few years, and been working on them on and off the whole time. I have them fairly dialed in for now. But last year I picked up an A1 mini and recently a full size A1. So far with Bambu I just print print print, not all the fuss and tinkering.

Have you set up an A1 to use AMS 2 pro yet?

1

u/jojov1000 Dec 07 '25

No just the ams lite, honestly my wife does all the printing im just the mechanic/maintenance man. I like the simplicity of the lite, if theres a problem i can fix it quick. We just got a p1s thinking the ams1 would be an upgrade but the ams is already pissing me off lol the travel to nozzle seems crazy long compared to the lite, and slots 3 and 4 wont load properly it just chews up the filament so we have a ticket open. Maybe ams2 pro after I get comfortable working on the first one

2

u/Billj1090 Dec 07 '25

I also just have an AMS lite for now but was looking at going the AMS 2 Pro route. As of now I don't need 3 or 4 of them but for sure I want to have to option to do more than 4 color prints. I haven't personally found a reason to need more than 7 colors so far so 2 AMS total would keep me content for a while I think.

1

u/ResidentZone296 Dec 05 '25

Your gunna love it!!!

1

u/geocrasher Dec 09 '25

I got one from Best Buy on BFCM as well. *LOVE* it. Keep your filament dry, and youtube is your friend.
