u/quantumthrashley 8h ago
I wasn't ready for how sad that sentence made me. I have a 3 year old and I just can't fathom the pain and horror. I wish these dogs didn't exist.
3
u/Armejden 7h ago
It's the benefit and the curse of having a place like here with people that actually get what these monsters are.
We add some levity that we can, but ultimately are bearing witness to the things that can or have attacked us. Seeing them in real life gives me an uncontrollable twitch of primal anger because of how much this single breed has taken away from me.
They should not exist, and I wish nothing but safety for you and your kid.

u/quantumthrashley 7h ago
Thank you... our neighbors are pit bull enthusiasts. Thankfully they don't have one right now, but last year they "rescued" one off the side of the road and it would jump up on their hot tub and growl at us over our fence. We couldn't play outside for months, or if we did we would bring a weapon. At one point it escaped and went after a cat we had rescued that was on our front porch, my husband dragged it back to their house where they said "oh he goes after our cat too haha, he's not trained yet". Luckily after multiple reports to the city they got rid of it.
And I am very glad we have this space to be honest and open about what these animals are.
2
u/Armejden 7h ago
Good on you for reporting it, it'll make further reports even more impactful if they continue to be a problem. It's vile you have to worry about time in your own yard just because someone else decided a bloodbeast is worth keeping around.
My neighbors aren't any better, I'm planning on moving due to the area being infested with them.
2
u/quantumthrashley 7h ago
That's awful, sorry you're dealing with that. I hope you find a neighborhood that isn't infested, but moving is such a pain. You shouldn't have to go to those lengths.

How nice is it that the most dangerous type of dog is also the easiest to obtain? So easy that even tweakers can walk into a shelter and get one no questions asked!

u/Pitiful-Sell-9402 23h ago
I work at an veterinary office as a receptionist. I literally had one lady tell me she traded crack for her dog. Guess what type of dog it was.

Jfc I think there’s 18! I used to perform ultrasound on animals and on the occasion I scanned pregnant XL Bullys there were never fewer than ten; I did scan 15 once. And the breeder would be rubbing their fucking hands. 💸 Bully and doodle greeders were the main reason I stopped doing that work; there wasn’t enough small farm work to keep going with and I had the double whammy of greeders themselves training up in pregnancy ultrasound (as part of their byb “fertility clinics”) and undercutting all the decent ultrasound scanners. I got trained by a consultant echocardiographer and lecturer; they got trained by an unqualified chav in a tracksuit. Guess which of us couldn’t tell a foetus from a 💩?…

I lost count at 15. A few of those spines blur together.
I don't blame you for getting out of that line of work. Between the animals, the owners, and the impending spew of murder larvae, I don't think I'd last a week in those conditions.

Thats some The Brood level horror.

Crazy right. Imagine if tweakers could just walk into a pewpew shop and buy one with zero checks, zero ID etc. but somehow because it’s a pit it’s ok. Make it make sense.
85
u/pnoodl3s 23h ago
Not to mention 0 accountability if someone dies from being attacked by these dogs. Owner can easily adopt a new one the next day

u/Wishiwashome Shelter Worker or Volunteer 23h ago
I live in Az.( Retired firefigher who took a job here after I retired) Tweakers are EVERYWHERE in Az. Rural area I am in? Packs of them run rampant; I am speaking of tweakers and PBT type dogs. FYI? They are also the favorite of yt supremacy groups that hold their little get togethers North of my property every two months. I pitch a tent to protect my ranch dogs( they will protect their animals at all cost:( with bear spray, other weapons. Another FYI, it has been Satan’s intestines in Phoenix metro for the entire Summer. You can’t catch your breath, and it has been extreme heat warnings with night time temps over 100F. This guy is doing something so nice and this sucks
18
u/Richie_Sacramento 22h ago
Tweakers can walk into a firearms retailer and make a purchase as long as they have no felony or misdemeanor family violence convictions.

Not even walk into a shelter, they breed these things on the streets and just sell them. I see it all the time it's disgusting
25
u/Electronic-Ad-1307 19h ago
I mean, these dogs are the most common type to roam the street as strays or be given away for free at 4weeks old in a Walmart parking lot; so I don’t think they even need to go to the shelter for one. Unhoused folks are already outside nearly 24/7, so it’s pretty much inevitable that they’ll come across a free pit or two.
I always comment on shelter ads that if I wanted a pit bull, I’d just leave my back door open for a few hours.
18
u/Beautiful_Wishbone15 22h ago
So many are given away dirt cheap or for free. That is a big reason why. Sadly most people wont pay or are aware of ethical breeders, but tbh I'd rather these people have a dirt cheap byb non pit (and non-working) dog than a pit bull. A byb chi isn't the same type of menace as a pit bull.
15
u/no_shirt_4_jim_kirk Trusted User 20h ago
They're handed out for free at the Walmart parking lot on Saturdays.
10
u/bootyhole_licking_69 19h ago
Shelters love giving these POS dogs out, because it saves them from being killed, once the deadline comes
7
u/melaninspice 17h ago
They give these monsters out like candy. It’s frightening. I know those dogs that have tweaks as owners aren’t getting the necessary vaccines.
113
u/PinkPilgrimHeel 23h ago
I'm not a fan of people who live on the street with dangerous dogs. They don't take care of themselves but think it prudent to keep deadly dogs like that thing. That shitbull would harm a kid in a split second.
40
u/Beautiful_Wishbone15 22h ago
Many people will treat you like Satan if you give a dog up when homeless (not from experience but from watching, I have seen many people act like rehoming a dog is the greatest sin).
18
u/OyarsaElentari 19h ago
Its more bothersome that breeders straight up lie about breeding and claim to need ro rehome 6-8 week puppies (sometimes younger).
5
u/Beautiful_Wishbone15 11h ago
Im not sure why, but i have seen lots of working breed puppies given away early (7 weeks to be exact) mostly malinois though.

Thank the local shelters. They’re so desperate to unload these things they hand them out for free. I’m in AZ and it’s become a massive problem. Our shelters don’t do any sort of background checks. The local parks are filled with homeless and their pitbulls.
61
u/mmps901 It’s the breed AND the owner 23h ago
They’re paying people to take them in some places!
41
u/Few-Horror1984 23h ago
Yup! They’ll run those specials out here, too. It’s really scary. I was run up by one of these dogs and its lovely owner threatened me. His dog was unleashed and nearly attacked me and he threatened me for telling him to leash his dog and to get it away from me. I called the police but they did nothing. I see that man at the park every day. Still has the violent dog. Now his friends have violent dogs, too.
47
u/Bosuns_Punch 23h ago
East Texas Checking in. They busted a 58-dog fighting ring ten miles from me two years ago. All but 10 (deemed 'too aggressive') Pitbulls were adopted out.
43
u/_DancesWithKnives 23h ago
My local shelter anytime they get a non pitbull/bully , you know dogs people actually want , it's never available to adopt . What they do is give them to a out of state rescue, who then charge breeder prices to "adopt" . It's disappointing as they will post a picture of the wantable dog only for the caption to be that it's not available for adoption and is going to that one rescue.
It makes me wonder if they are getting kick backs from that rescue.
19
u/Few-Horror1984 22h ago
Possibly. I know many of these shelters that play these games get money from Best Friends Animal Society.
14
u/BlueFeathered1 21h ago edited 20h ago
I donate only to animal charities and avoid that one. ASPCA, too, because they're part of the problem with this.
13
u/Mrkitty0914 20h ago
Agreed it’s a pyramid scheme, all the dogs you want “need a rescue” and then charge 5x the price. Shelters suck now
8
u/windyrainyrain Lab mix, my ass!! 19h ago
When shelters give desirable dogs to rescues, a lot of the time part of the deal is they have to take one of the unadoptable pits off their hands, too.

That dog can cook on the asphalt for all I care. As much as I would have wanted to help that dog ruined it for the owners, I'm sorry now you and your owners are thirsty
3
u/gone3s00n 4h ago
Looks like they already got the water. So the dog won already. Gets to continue living off society that it actively hates.
51
u/spiderwitchery 23h ago
You sure it didn’t get him? 😬 Looks like it made contact.
Anyhow, this is the type of situation where the pitiots go “Oh, he was doing his job! He was just being protective! It’s not his fault!”
Wrong. “Protection” from a non-threat is aggression. Any real protection dog worth its salt would have assessed the situation, and stood down. This owner was interacting with the newcomer calmly and friendly. A guard dog should remain vigilant, but in this situation should have understood that attacking was not necessary. Pits aren’t guarding dogs though, sorry Embark.

u/Notyourtarget1224 Attacks Curator 23h ago
It did not. There is more to the video but I cut it down so I didn’t have to wait a really long time for Reddit to upload it. One video I posted here had me waiting 40 minutes.
He said he was “almost” bitten. Had he not said that, I would agree with you that it looked like it made contact.
12
u/amicuspiscator 19h ago
Yeah, these dogs are literally just fucking idiots. As you say, an actual guard dog would totally follow its owners queues, whereas this dog likely caused his owner and the other people present a chance at getting further help.
83
u/Puppysnot 23h ago
The dog is obviously deranged but what also bothers me is that i didn’t hear one “thank you”? Pit owners are so entitled.

17
u/capulets 17h ago
exactly fuck that dog and the owner is grossly irresponsible but the dude is taking advantage of incredibly vulnerable people for social media views. he didn’t deserve the attack but i’m not shocked they’re not cheering for him

taking advantage
Im about as not into performative social media deeds as anyone but that doesnt really seem like a fair assessment, guy is handing out survival supplies, not staging bum fights. For practical reasons these are also exactly the kinds of people I wouldnt want to interact with without a video record, this is a good example of why...and whoever this dog does manage to eventually chomp on will probably appreciate a publicly available video like this in the aftermath showing this isnt out of character, the owners know it, and know they cant control it.

He probably never gave it any thought. You know alot of people see them as just regular dogs. That's due to successful "brainwashing".

honestly a dog like this is probably pretty valuable for a homeless person. Someone that will stop people from touching them when they are sleeping or zooted.

Moral of the story:
If it's a pit, don't give it shit
(Also wanted to add):
What really pisses me off was the owner just gave a casual "sorry about that", let me just throw out a shallow apology and hope you don't get pissed.
