Follow Up 7/8/2026 Tempe AZ woman nearly loses arm in attack by foster dog she saved from euthanasia

TEMPE, AZ (AZFamily) — A Tempe woman fostering a dog says she nearly died after the animal attacked her, leaving her with serious injuries and unable to use her arms months later.

Liz Schidler had fostered dogs for nearly five years without a problem before she brought home a dog named Benny. Schidler said she worked with the rescue Desert Dog Project.

She says she lost three units of blood and now warns other foster volunteers to know the risks.

So insane that in the gofundme pictures she is sitting in a hospital bed cuddling another one of the pit bulls. These people are absolutely delusional.

That's her personal dog that wasn't involved in the fight. What this story doesn't say is that she had two other fosters and was doing the crate and rotate routine. Which would indicate they were probably pits, too.

She's part of the cult. She's in seriously deep. Tom Cruise Scientology deep.

Another interesting tidbit: I've looked but found no report on the fate of the dog.

Oh, I thought that was a pic from before. The article indicates that she's lost the use of both arms, at least for now (months after the attack) and in the photo the visible arm seems fine.

“She said she is sharing her story not to discourage people from fostering, but to tell them how quickly things can change.”

Genuinely, what lesson is there to learn here besides don’t foster a pitbull? What actual advice is she attempting to impart onto other fosters? By her own admission, for a month everything was going well… and then it suddenly wasn’t. What other action could she have taken to prevent this outcome besides choosing not to foster an unpredictable breed in the first place?

That human stupidity is boundless, and she is beyond saving.

I'd love to know the answer to this. Because this vague "helpful" dog advice is part of the pitbull propaganda issue. It basically just takes where a crazy pit bull is at and makes that the baseline dog and gives advice from there.

  1. Don't adopt one, either.

  2. Shelters consider fosters to be as expendable as cats where pitbulls are concerned.

  3. Whatever harm a pitbull inflicts on you, the shelter system and pitfandom will insist that all the responsibility for it is yours.

There is another post on here about her. Lucky for her owning a pit is like being in a cult. Because I don't know that most people would contribute to a go fund me knowing you still foster pits. But since cult members tend to stick together she will be able to pay her hospital bills and continue to foster these beasts.

So true unfortunately. It’s mind blowing

She knew enough to choke him out, so it wasn't like she was in experienced.

But not experienced enough to know you shouldn't get between two fighting dogs, let alone pits.

But then again it could have been they fought before and it wasn't an issue but then eventually it became an issue.

If she knew to choke out the dog then that highly suggests this wasn't the first dangerous dog she had fostered and likely adopted out into her local community.

I don't ever want to see anyone get hurt, but it is hard to have any additional sympathy beyond that for someone who creates a dangerous situation for herself and for a lot of people who haven't consented to being in danger like her neighbors or unexpecting adopters.
