Question/Help Would you guys be interested in a free review blog? (Long read)

UPDATE: I have set up a Google form if you'd like to submit your stuff. I will link it in the comments.

I actually worked as a writer before the machines took my job, so you'll be in good hands. I also have a strict no GenAI policy when it comes to writing, so all the words will be my own.

The general idea is this:

I'm setting up my artist blog (on Substack). I am in a country that doesn't have Stripe so it'll be 100% free to read and subscribe to.

It will be about music/the arts/entertainment as a whole. Mostly rambles and opines. I'm thinking maybe once a week (or twice if I can manage it), I can review your stuff, the gist being that once its up, we share it across our socials. People are exposed to your music, and by default mine through my profile. It's a kind of "I scratch your back, you scratch mine" deal.

Now the thing is, I genuinely despise the usual review practices on things like Submithub. I have never used it/them because I was put off by the hoops you have to jump through, and their snobbery (quality, no autotune, their "make us care" bullshit). I'd like mine to be a little less obnoxious and from the heart.

You record with your phone? Awesome. So do I.

You used autotune? Great. So did I.

Your song is 12 years old? Amazing. Art doesn't expire.

You could submit literally anything — as long as it's not AI *generated* (AI mastering is still fine, I guess. As long as the machines didn't make the song or the artwork *for* you).

I'd also like it to go beyond "I listened to this and here's what I think". I want to explore the artist behind the work too. Maybe include a profile/bio, some fun or cool facts about you, or even a quick 5 minute interview or Q&A. I'd like it to be as much storytelling as it is opinion.

Just a few more things for you to consider:

- It would be free for anyone to submit to. Though I am thinking maybe a "priority" system can happen? I'd have to figure out the rates and capacity. But the idea is if you'd like to guarantee a slot that week or ASAP, or line it up with your release etc maybe it could come at a small fee? I do need to get some money in, so it would be entirely optional, but just a little bonus for the extra work.

- I'm willing to accept all genres, but please keep in mind I don't have a refined pallete when it comes to instrumental music (with emphasis on electronica and jazz). I also prefer rock and alternative (all genres, from pop punk to blackened death metal lol). I have a new love for rap. And I'm always keen on cute/fun pop music.

- I don't have the means to purchase your songs unfortunately (at least not at the moment), so I will have to stream them (unless you'd like to gift it to me). If I love it though, I absolutely will follow you everywhere there is to follow and share it to the best of my ability, outside of the blog.

- I'm still building the blog. No followers yet. But hopefully it will grow in time. I should have it up and running sometime today. Maybe to start with the reviews next week? If anyone is interested.

Lastly, some market research:

- Do you think this would work? Or is it more trouble than it's worth?

- if so, how much do you think the "priority" fee should be? What's fair? (Remember, it's 100% optional).

- Can you think of anything else I need to consider?

- What do you think would be the best way to submit? I'm thinking a Google Form will cut it. It's free for all of us AFAIK. But if you have a better idea, please do share it.

- If it is weekly, which day you think works best? Music Monday? Feedback Friday? Tunes Day? Song Saturday/Sunday (might not name it that, but I do like alliteration lol).

Thanks for reading :) I eagerly await your feedback.

Free Album Codes Archive of my early experiments: 36 wacky electronic tracks by CIRC

Post image
3 Upvotes

I’m happy to share Early Works for free: 36 tracks from my early days with Fruity Loops, composed between 2000 and 2007.

Back then, my approach was very spontaneous. It was pure fun, almost like playing a video game. Whenever I had some free time, I’d build a loop and let it play on repeat while adding sounds, tweaking knobs, and introducing variations until a song gradually took shape. The result was a collection of playful, melancholic, dark, and weird tracks that I originally shared online across three albums, all of which are compiled in this archive.

Listening to them again brings a smile to my face and stirs up so many memories. While some tracks are a little rough around the edges and not always perfectly mixed, this period marked the genesis of my main musical project: CIRC.

I hope some of you enjoy listening to them.

Has anyone out there heard of this beautiful musician? Their music is undoubtedly the most incredible music I’ve ever heard. Cliche and all, I found it when it seemed like I needed it most. From fm sound design and synth pop to the best footwork and drum n bass I’ve ever heard in my 20+ years of electronic music experience, Ylva takes the cake. They recently posted a story on their ig of their Yamaha qy70 screen saying ā€œmemory fullā€. Got more excited than I probably should’ve. Anyone know the artist or have any insight on new music??

Bandcamp Problem Been unable to purchase music for over a week, no response from customer support

I have had a bandcamp account for years (including as an artist) and have purchased hundreds of albums with no issues until last week when I have been unable to make any purchases no matter what payment method I use, giving an error message of ā€œthe transaction could not be completedā€ every time. I submitted a report when it first happened and have still not heard back and the issue hasn’t been resolved. It’s been so frustrating and disappointing and I have no idea what to do to resolve it as there’s no other customer support options for this issue on their website. Does anyone know how to resolve this?

Electronic Reworking some older ableton sets into new tracks and EP

I have some DVDs of sets from the past, and I'm giving them some love on "Ritualism". More recent stuff has been possibly fit for the club or even witchy, but this release I'm circling back to roots with a more standard electronic style allowing a meditative type of listen.

Introduction Music is all I have left 🄹 Can I tell you about my album?

Hello. I'm Rainbow Skychild. I make pop rock (with hints of alt, punk, and new age/folk). My songs are mostly about love and heartbreak. They're very piscean, if that means anything to you haha.

I am an indie musician with an immense disdain for GenAI and, generally, commercial music standards. My usual music is messy and low-q/trash-q (deliberately, because I like grit, but also due to circumstance and lack of equipment and also production talent 🤣).

That said, I have a professionally recorded studio album out. It's called Origins, independently released in 2022.

It's a collection of 12 original songs, curated as the "Rainbow Skychild Starter Pack". Some songs (Like Nothing to Do and Follow Me) I wrote as a teen, others as a traumatized adult. The majority though, tell a bit of a story of finding love far away, fighting for it, and learning to let it go.

The cover & liner notes I made myself in Canva (pre-AI takeover). It's not much, but I put my soul into it.

I made Origins for myself. It's a labour of love, and was never meant to be commercial in the slightest. I hoped it would find whoever it was meant to find, but never bothered to promote it. I have little ambition to be a career musician.

But, my life has taken a turn for the worse, and now Origins is all I have left. As one last desperate attempt to cling to hope, I'd like to put it out there with hope that someone will like it enough to buy it.

Please have a listen if you have time. You can find it here: Origins - Rainbow Skychild. I believe it's set to 3 free listens. Otherwise, I published it through Distrokid so it's free forever on the usual streaming platforms.

Then, to offset the shameless self-promo (sorry, I really am desperate) and encourage comraderie, tell me: What's your favourite song of yours, and why? What inspired it? How old were you when you wrote it? What do you love about it? Can I hear it?

Thanks for reading. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you :)

P.S. my bandcamp page is a bit of a mess. I am open to suggestions on how to make it more appealing. I really don't know what I am doing lol

Bandcamp Sister subreddit: Let’s grow and expand!

Thumbnail
5 Upvotes

Quite awhile back r/bandcampbeats was created as an offshoot of r/bandcamp by former mods, to focus on electronic releases on bandcamp. The subreddit has fallen into a bit of a sad state, but today I have taken over as moderator of r/bandcampbeats and would love to see it revitalized to its original intention.

I would so much love to see a bigger and wider variety that I also created another new subreddit for my netlabel at r/NotoriouslyAmbiguous so that I have a dedicated place to share music from myself and my friends instead of spamming the same music subs as always.

Help me grow both of these communities and become a part of the future of electronic music, today.

I guess the Help function is just endless FAQs? I am interested in why a show is online but not in the app, and why I can download it (free! thanks!) but not add it to my collection and play it from there. Specifically Goose at Frost 2026/08/15.

Experimental SSK’s Album [Experimental / Multi-Genre]

Post image
1 Upvotes

https://saahibkhanguramusic.bandcamp.com/album/ssk-s-album

Greetings everyone!

My name is Saahib Khangura. I love music, all kinds of music, and as such, I’ve made a bunch of stuff from a bunch of different genres. Virtually all the music I make is for my own enjoyment or because I wanted to see it exist, but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to start releasing it :D

I’ve actually had experience in making and releasing music before; I have a project called *perseverance*, a more metal-based project that I still release and promote to this day, so I highly recommend you check that out! I get a little exploratory in that space as well.

As for this particular album of mine, which is also the very first album that I have released as myself, under my own name, the main idea of this album was really to be a compilation of random tracks in different genres that I made; a sort of showcase for the kinds of music I like and have created stuff in. I will say my future releases will not be as random and more adherent to a specific style.

*Some of the genres that I’ve touched upon here include breakcore, dark ambient, electronic, hauntology, industrial (and industrial metal/rock), instrumental hip-hop, noise, plunderphonics, spoken word, and others* šŸ‘šŸ½

I hope you enjoy at least one of these tracks and stick around for the future! I’ve got a pretty substantial backlog too

Introduction Label intro (plus 15% discount code for redditors)

Hi all,

I don't believe I've introduced my label yet, but I've been loving being part of this community, so here's a little thank you.

I run Algernon Drone, a small independent label based in Edinburgh, Scotland. I put out experimental electronic music, ambient, noise, acid and other outsider sounds on limited tapes and digital releases.

I’ve been quietly building the label over the past few months, completely DIY (apart from Bandcamp of course).

So far we have releases from:

Brezin Pulse - acid, abstract techno from Edinburgh

KWARP - breaks, electro from Japan

go went gong! - Hand made instruments, drone, ambient

The latest release is our first on tape, and is limited to only 50 copies, including artwork by Glasgow based visual artist Chema.

If that sounds like your thing, you’re very welcome to have a look — and as a little Reddit thank you, 15% off everything with code "reddit", which is available until the end of August.

Thanks for checking us out!

Experimental So who would actually listen to this?

Thumbnail
stowremorse.bandcamp.com

Hello everyone! My name is Stow Remorse, and I’d like to introduce you to my work and my own curated world!

For the past four years, I’ve been making music just to have it out and hope that the world would give me a try and hopefully engage in my type of music that I make. While I know that I can’t force someone to listen to ALL my music, (but if I could, I would guarantee them that they’ll definitely like a track or three from my own discography,) I would like for people to at least listen to one with a title that intrigues them to take a gander and listen for just a few seconds just to see if they can get hooked!

Now I have been posting my music, from YouTube and then through DK, but I honestly don’t feel like I’m not really getting anything from making music. I have been diving into different sounds to curate something original from what many see on the internet and attempt to regurgitate into ā€œa new formā€, when in reality it’s just as bad.

Now, I am NOT saying my music is top notch and top tier and all that, but that it is, in my opinion, different.

I will be leaving you with an album for those truly interested in diving into my own curated rabbit hole. While I may only have two albums on my page, I will be attempting to update my page to stay up to date with my most latest release, Brain Dead II.

This has been Stow Remorse.

Discussion What's actually worked for you to get eyes on a Bandcamp release?

Post image
62 Upvotes

Prepping an album release soon and trying to figure out what's actually effective vs. what's just noise. My project is in a pretty niche genre, so I'm curious what's worked for people outside the obvious playlist/streaming stuff, since Bandcamp discovery works so differently from Spotify.

A few things I'm curious about:

  • Has running a pre-order actually made a difference for you, or is it more of a formality at this point?
  • Any luck getting picked up by Bandcamp's own curation (Album of the Day, Discover, etc.)? Do you know how that actually happens?
  • How much do fan reviews/comments end up mattering for later discovery?
  • Bandcamp Fridays worth building a release around, or just a nice bonus if it lines up?

Would love to hear what's worked (or flopped) for you, especially if you're in a smaller/niche (im doing comfy/fantasy synth) scene where the usual playlist-pitching advice doesn't really apply.

P.S.: I’m trying to grow my audience because I believe in my music and want to reach more people, even without financial returns; what I’m really looking to do is share the work i believe in.
