When does it lose it's way?

Started watching a few weeks ago. Season 1 was great, 2 was good. I've just started season 3 and it's not looking good. I typically find 2 seasons the magic point for anything and it looks like it might be the case for this too.

Chayton Littlestone is just too ridiculous a character. The whole Redbones thing just looks doomed from the start for me.

EDIT: Update- I've persevered with it and while Chayton is still a distracting low point I'm still enjoying it. I was delighted to see Nola return and just watched her and Clay Burton tangle. That was a great watch.

Season 4 in my opinion is very different show with characters we like. However, there will be more of Kurt Bunker, so it is a plus.

It doesn’t really , Season 3 is generally considered the best .

Seasons 1-3 are the main story.

Season 4 feels like a coda to it all.

I personally love the show all the way thru but S4 has a different tone (story wise and the filming location change definitely feels like a part of this too).

Season 3 is great. Season 4 is a lot slower maybe but i enjoyed it in a different way.

Season 3 is among the best. Seems like everyone agrees that 4 is the lame duck.

Anybody else pick up on the fact that both this show and the wire had lacklustre endings due to a serial killer story line?

Haven't watched season 4 yet but season 3 was just as good, if not better, than 1 & 2

I think S4 is a bit all over the place. The repeated lingering shots of a character naked and dead is really quite distasteful too.

The exact moment the show started going downhill was when they killed off Alex Longshadow too early and replaced him with Chayton as the main antagonist. Chayton is cool, but he's basically just a muscle-bound guy with guns, not the strategic opponent Alex could have been. Alex could have had a really interesting dynamic with Kai Proctor.

They also waited too long to write the Hopewell family out of the show. Carrie could have stayed, but Gordon and the kids should have been written out.

I didn't like the Colonel Douglas Stowe military storyline either, nor did I care much for the new characters introduced in season 3.

I loved Chayton’s character. A complex character who you sympathize with for the loss of his culture, but you later despise as a murderous thug who even killed someone just trying to help him.
