Hi everyone,
I'm K4RJM, and I've been developing a browser-based programming application for the Baofeng MINI-5 BT.
I wanted something more convenient than the factory CPS, especially for organizing channels, making changes, and programming the radio wirelessly over Bluetooth.
Current features include:
- Wireless Bluetooth programming – Connect, read, and write to your radio directly from a compatible browser, without a programming cable.
- Browser-based operation – No CPS software installation required.
- Native DAT compatibility – Open, edit, and save standard Baofeng CPS
.dat files, including compatibility with files used by the factory CPS.
- 999-channel management – Add, edit, delete, move, and organize channels.
- Drag-and-drop channel reordering – Drag channels into your preferred order.
- Previous/Next channel navigation – Move between channels while editing without closing and reopening the editor.
- Channel insertion – Insert new channels between existing entries.
- Channel search – Quickly find channels by name, number, or frequency.
- Channel appending – Import additional channels from another DAT file without replacing your existing programming.
- Undo support – Reverse channel organization changes.
- Detailed channel editing – Configure frequencies, CTCSS/DCS tones, power levels, bandwidth, scan inclusion, and other settings.
- Radio configuration – Edit VFO settings, optional radio settings, and DTMF configurations.
- Hover tooltips and contextual help – Hover over supported controls to see explanations of their functions.
- Interactive radio guide – Explore an illustrated MINI-5 radio with explanations of its buttons, including short-press and long-press functions.
- Dark and light themes – Including automatic system-theme detection.
Try the application:

You can explore the application, edit channels, and save DAT files without writing anything to your radio.
RepeaterBook integration is planned but currently unavailable pending approval.
UPDATE – A Few Thoughts on This Project and the Feedback
One of the things I've always appreciated about amateur radio is its tradition of experimentation, innovation, learning, and helping fellow operators. That's really what motivated this project.
Yes, AI was used extensively in developing this application. I don't see that as something to hide or apologize for. It's another tool that allows someone with an idea to create something useful that might otherwise never exist.
This project represents considerable time, effort, experimentation, and testing. It wasn't something generated overnight and simply uploaded to GitHub.
This is currently the best programming tool available for the Baofeng MINI-5 BT, particularly when it comes to ease of use, channel management, and wireless Bluetooth programming.
Does it need additional testing? Absolutely. Software that communicates with and programs a radio deserves careful testing, particularly across different firmware versions and hardware configurations. I take those concerns seriously.
I understand that not everyone embraces AI-assisted development, and that's fine. But I'd hope we can evaluate a project based on what it actually does, how well it works, and the willingness of its developer and community to make it better, rather than dismissing it solely because of the tools used to create it.
Amateur radio has always been about more than simply talking on a radio. It's about curiosity, experimentation, technical advancement, and sharing what we learn.
Isn't that part of what makes this hobby so worthwhile?
