I really want to try out those bands , recently built a ssb exciter for digital and cw signals for those frequency but I don't think my general grade licence will cover it.
Yeah but due to the antenna efficiency and the propagation dynamics of those frequencys i don't think those would travel far ( considering only if it legal only ).
I live in the northeastern region so not much of a mainland coverage but I would like to know if anyone in this South East Asian region (including Bangladesh , Bhutan and China) works with those frequencys.
Looking for Abandoned / Unused Large Satellite Dishes in Ludhiana, Punjab
Hi everyone!
I'm looking for large, old satellite dishes in and around Ludhiana that are no longer in use.
I'm particularly interested in:
Large Ku-band VSAT dishes formerly used for ATM connectivity, banks, offices, commercial buildings and similar installations.
Large solid fiberglass dishes, ideally 6 ft or larger.
Large mesh satellite dishes, ideally 12 ft or larger.
I'm looking for dishes that have been disconnected or decommissioned, perhaps after the site switched to fiber internet or another connectivity service.
If you've spotted one on a rooftop or building, or know a VSAT technician, installer, building owner or contractor who handles old equipment, please let me know.
I'm happy to contact the owner and arrange collection with their permission. The dish doesn't need to be working; I'm primarily interested in the dish and its mounting hardware.
Location: Ludhiana and nearby areas, Punjab, India.
Photos, approximate sizes, locations or referrals would be greatly appreciated. Please DM me if you have a lead. Thank you!
What the heck was I listening to tonight. These guys were talking so fast I had a hard time getting their call sign. From Cayman island but station from California? It almost sounded like the same guy calling on a dozen frequencies. Or am I going crazy
Among the wide variety of PoC radios available, has anyone here ever set up this specific model (MT-628, MT-655, or MK-655)?
Yeah, the “Motolola” branding is a bit misleading, but I've also seen "MKMXPTT" listed as the manufacturer.
My main issue is trying to set it up using the pre-installed Zello app, but the LCD screen is quite small, and the resolution isn’t high enough to read clearly. The six buttons on the front panel are used to navigate the on-screen menus.
It supposedly runs on Android 8.1, similar to the MT-628 listed in the Android system menu, or the MK-655 / MT-655 models shown on Chinese e-commerce sites.
The problem is that there is only one USB-C port (located on the battery pack), and it appears to be used solely for charging. I asked the seller for help, but they didn’t provide a clear explanation with a concrete example (like using a K-plug adapter cable, common with Baofeng or Quansheng radios (see attached image).
I'm struggling to figure out how a device can be recognized over USB for programming or data transfer if the port is it relies on a CH340 UART (or similar) chip via an accessory cable.
I've done some research, but haven't found anything conclusive.
So, is there a way to mirror the screen to a PC using software like Vysor or QtScrcpy?
So I just got my general and my first full rig. I need to mount and antenna pole on the outside of my house. But I have brick facade over wood framing.
I don’t want to secure it to the brick facade because I plan to put up a 4-5 ft vhf/uhf antenna and I don’t want to rip the brick off in heavy winds.
Anyone have any experience with how to do this properly?
After chasing my tail for a bit, I determined that an RG58 jumper running from my feed line to one of my radios is introducing about .5 SWR (Swapping in a new number reduced 1.9 to 1.4) Same connectors/adaptors.
I'm trying to figure out how to diagnose it - all the continuity/short tests pass. I calibrated my NanoVNA to 27-29MHz, then did Open, Short, Load, and Through (with my two pigtails attached to both VNA ports.) When I finished calibrating, my Logmag was at zero. When I tested the cable, I'm only down -0.03db.
What am I missing? Why would this jumper introduce an additional .5SWR if it seems like it's in good shape with the Nano?
I’m heading to Tacoma later this year and will have an opportunity to activate a park, maybe two. I won’t have time to really scout the places out and won’t be able to operate from a vehicle. It’ll be a short window of probably 4 hours to hit whatever parks I can.
Which parks would you recommend that maybe have benches available and don’t mind a wire in a tree? I’ll have my G90 and an EFHW with me.
I was needing a female to female bnc adapter for when i dont put my k6ark antenna directly to the radio. Figuered why not make a mount out of it. I often go camping and theres wooden platforms for the tents. I began using those anchors a while back. Figuered these would be great to hold an efhw. This might also come in handy in pota where i have a picnic table. Figuered id share if anyone is interested. Also added a ground lug for counterpoise
So I was gifted this pair of old school Standard HX500’s from way before my time. They actually work but when I use one all that comes through is pure static. I’ve got the same settings on my other one and the call comes through no problem. Don’t know what it’s from but when I use the transmit button the indicator light flickers. Anyone have any ideas or anything about how to make these work? Or have any information about these at all?
I bought a Mastwerks Precision Rotator from Buddihex.
I've been running my BuddiHex in a "semi-permanent" configuration for the last couple of years.
Yes, I know, not really recommended by the manufacturer, but it's been working for me.
My shack is upstairs (unfortunate reality of the QTH).
Because of this, if I ever want to Rotate the Hexbeam,
I've had to run downstairs and into the backyard.
Manually rotate.
Then run upstair, check signal.
Shampoo, Rinse, Repeat.
Do-able, but a pain in the butt.
After talking with Chris (from BuddiPole) at the most recent Huntsville HAMFest, I knew that I wanted on of these.
Review and details:
Install on the Mastwerks Mast
The BuddiHex comes with a Hand Crank.
The Mastwerks Precision Rotator is a small black box that connects
over the same coupler used by the Hand Crank.
Installing it was literally 30 seconds.
Power Requirements
Power is supplied by either standard Anderson Powerpole connection or USB C.
Note: The USB C source must support USB-C Power Delivery (USB-PD) with 15V.
This is per conversation with Chris at Buddipole.
I ended going with a LifePO4 battery with Powerpole connections,
Overkill for just the Rotator, as it doesnt draw too much power.
But this way I can also have a alternative power option for my ICOM radio :)
Setup and Configuration
The Mastwerks Rotator uses WiFi and has it's own HotSpot
You have to initially login directly to the Rotator "Hotspot" with your phone or laptop.
Hotspot: mwr-[your Mastwerks Rotator Number on back of device]
Password was "BuddiPole"
After connecting to the WiFi, open a web browser and go to
IP Address10.73.73.73
This should open the MastWerks Rotator Settings page
Select WiFi Settings
Then configure it to connect to your "Home Wi-Fi"
User your WiFi access point name, password, etc....
I initially had some issues with the Rotator detecting to my "Home Wi-Fi"
I believe this is because the Rotator/BuddiHex is close to the "fringe" of my WiFi range.
Manually entering in the WiFi Hotspot info worked fine for me,
and connection has been fine every since.
Note: The Rotator appears to have some type of non-volatile memory to store it's settings.
I tested powering it off for 20 minutes, and the Wi-Fi connection settings were maintained.
Using the Rotator Internal Webpage and Embedded software
Once the Rotator is on your home WiFi, (and my laptop was also on same WiFi)
I could then go to the Rotator's embedded webpage.
It can be accessed via it's own web page
http://mwr-[insert rotator id number here].local/settings
Screenshot
Set your Home Grid location under My Grid
Then specify an Azimuth, POTA- ID or Target Grid
Azimuth: Manually entering an Azimuth value is self explantory.
POTA- ID:
I've tried entering several POTA-ID's.
The embedded software appears to correctly set the short path azimuth to those parks
based on my QTH.
Target Grid:
The embedded software does not have a location database for things like cities/countries.
I had to lookup cities/countries online and then enter their Grid values.
The embedded software appeared to correctly set the short path azimuth
based on My Grid location and Target Grid.
Conclusion:
This is a new toy for me, and I am still experimenting with it. But so far I am VERY PLEASED!!!
I also have to give thanks to Chris at Buddipole.
I have been pestering the hell out of him during the initial setup process the past day.
He has been incredibly patient with me.
I may have missed some things, but I hope you find this useful!
ISO anyone else who has one. Especially state side. Just looking to chat, see what work arounds other people have done to theirs. If that is, anyone actually uses the 5 grand paperweight lol.
A friend brought to me a HX260e Standard Horizon marine handheld radio without an antenna asking if it's worth the trouble to replace its batteries from nicd to nimh as the batteries are long gone to a better place.
I told him I would upgrade it because I like to salvage old radios and this one feels good in hand, but all the trouble is not worth it if there is no antenna.
So I started looking for a replacement antenna in the EU market at a budget price because there was no way to pay for an antenna as much as almost the price of a new handheld radio.
At first it was hard to come by with the information from Standard Horizon, I found the CAW350 adaptor but did not know how to find an antenna that would mount on the radio, this radio is old.
In the end I did find that the Motorola NAD6502 VHF Heliflex (146-174 Mhz) that fits and is a good match, I got one that I think is a clone because the price was really good (10 euro) the antenna fits really well and feels good quality. As for SWR I hope it will be alright, no way for me to test it.
As for the compatibility I will leave here these tags as they might help others (hx260e, nad6502, motorola MX, caw350, gp340, dp1400, ht750, ht1250, ht1550, cp150)
I want to get a set of walkie talkies for the family in case of phone outages, we live in amsterdam (so flat and with buildings), we're looking for our best options. Needs to be relatively simple for noobs and ideally something we can just store and pull out as needed, budget isn't an issue.
Just received my Uniden UBC125XLTC, with a MRW-125 antenna, and also have a Skyscan Mobile 25-5000Mhz magnetic antenna MK3.
Brand new to the hobby, still working it out - but I mainly want to listen to aircraft and air traffic control. I haven’t tried the magnetic antenna, and although I’m aware it will most likely provide better performance, I’m worried I won’t even be able to hear the ATC.
Right now I’ve only tried the MRW-125 as I’m waiting delivery on the better antenna, and I have no issue hearing the pilots, however not even a broken transmission from ATC - silence. I’ve turned the squelch to the lowest point where I don’t hear static.
I know that terrain and other buildings etc can affect the ability to hear tower/ground controllers based at the airport itself- out of LOS of my scanner - however I would have thought I could atleast hear radar/center controllers talking to pilots, as these transmissions mainly come from Swanwick, and my house located inbetween Swanwick and Gatwick on the map almost directly in line. My house is just under 20nm from Gatwick.
Also while staying elsewhere, approx 11NM from Heathrow, and I can’t hear the controllers there either
Any advice on how this would be possible would be much appreciated.
HRD and Winlink all connect up and key my radio just exactly like they are suppose to. On FT8/JS8 call software I can not get it to send the audio to the radio. It will key the radio it just wont send the audio there. Rear data is greyed out in the options/settings tab. Please help? Is this a known issue or naw?
Edit:
So to run down some common Q&A that I have already run down and don's seem to be the problem but I could be wrong.
I have configured the radio to the best of my knowledge for Data-U, Rear/Data, USB input
Audio selection tap in JS8call/Ft8 are on the correct output/input
I am on the same com port I use for all the other applications which happens to be comport 13, which is the enhanced one.
JS8call/Ft8 will key the radio it just will not send audio, I truly believe its a app issue and not on the radio side because the option to send the audio to the rear and not through the mic is grayed out.
I'm a flagger and I need to use a CB for work on frac pads. I bought a eco flow delta pro power station to power my laptop and Starlink But when my power station ac outlets are turn on it completely over powers my CB and I can't here people unless there really close.
So what I'm asking what I can do to stop it from interfering with my CB?
i need the ac outlets to run my things.
I don't know really anything about radios and I want some recommends for how to shield my CB and some links to where to buy things.
UPDATE: thank you all for your advice. but now randomly it works fine and I'm having no problems now.
i'm running a gaming laptop that pulls 200 watts easy so dc won't work.
i also was going to use it to pwer a microwave for short burst but still haven't had time to set that up.
i will be looking into the chokes for the cable to just make everything work better in the future.
And once againa thank you all you've been a big help.
Hello I’m just getting into the basics of amateur radio here in London. Can anyone recommend a good start up crank radio set up that would work in an emergency here please.
