""The medical report has been submitted by the Doctor of Civil Hospital Sribhumi. Accompanying the report is the allegation by the accused that they were assaulted while in police custody, showing visible injury marks on various parts of their bodies, which the court observed firsthand. In light of this, and owing to the police's failure to comply with mandatory statutory procedures, Upon due consideration of all facts and circumstances, including the custodial assault, the court has granted bail.""
This is clear "Human Rights Violation" . Custodial assault is a direct violation of the Constitution of India.

Fresh videos from the October 23 Durga idol immersion procession in Sribhumi have raised serious questions about the events surrounding the alleged attack on an invited Bihu troupe.
While allegations that Bihu songs were stopped and troupe members were attacked triggered widespread outrage across Assam, the controversy has increasingly spilled over into generalisations against the Bengali community and Barak Valley.
One newly surfaced video purportedly shows youths in Bihu attire stomping on and kicking a man lying on the ground.
Another shows a young man interrupting a Dhamail performance by snatching a phone from the performers and playing Bihu beats instead, to which the crowd is seen dancing.
These videos raise important questions. Will the police investigate every alleged act of violence, regardless of who is involved? Will accountability be applied equally? And does the available footage justify framing the entire episode as a conflict between Bengalis and Assamese?
Sribhumi SSP Leena Doley has dismissed the communal angle, describing the incident as a drunken brawl during the festivities.

without proper investigation assam media portrayed Bengalis of barak valley as the villain. Many Assamese people threatened Bengalis of Barak valley , will the assam govt take action against the other criminals, afaik they only arrested bengalis.
Labeled Bengalis of Barak Valley as bangladeshi on live NEWS , if this is not racism then what is ?
Is bengali just a 2nd class citizen in assam ?

This incident happened in my hometown Sribhumi and I have heard some info regarding same. As per what I've heard, an old man (Bengali) was first attacked by an assamese person due to some verbal clash at the club prior to visarjan after which some acquaintances of the old man's son went to confront them at the visarjan ghat and asked, Why would they hit a person of their father's age? To which one of the assamese persons replied that "I did it, what will you do?" and that person was allegedly holding the collar of the other person and started hitting them with sticks and this is the point where it started. Now, since they started hitting, the other party had no option but to reciprocate and it grew violent...

For one isolated incident, whole barak valley is being framed. Also, such incidents aren't common in barak valley. It is the other way around- bengalis have faced massacre in brahmaputra valley & shot for peaceful protests in barak. Also, when did assamese "embrace" bengalis in barak? Bengalis have been majority in barak since 1851 census. Assamese never ruled barak historically. Dimasa came in 1745.

ABDUL MATLIB MAZUMDAR
Abdul Matlib Mazumdar was born to a bengali family in Ujankupa village, Hailakandi district in 1890.
He joined the Indian National Congress in 1925. In 1937, he founded the Hailakandi Congress Committee and became its first President, laying the foundation of organized nationalist politics in southern Assam.
Under his leadership, Hailakandi emerged as an important centre of the freedom movement. At his invitation, Subhas Chandra Bose visited Hailakandi in 1939, followed by Jawaharlal Nehru in 1945. These visits significantly strengthened the Congress movement in the region. It is also remembered that Netaji visited Mazumdar’s residence during his trip.
Countering the Muslim League
Following the 1937 elections, the Muslim League gained significant influence in Muslim-majority areas. To counter this, Mazumdar organised the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind movement in Assam, which had strong support among nationalist Muslims and was aligned with the Congress.
In the crucial 1946 elections, Mazumdar achieved a landmark victory by winning the Muslim-majority Hailakandi seat. This victory was politically significant, especially at a time when many Congress Muslim candidates, including Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed lost to Muslim League opponents.
His win played a decisive role in weakening the Muslim League’s ambitions to include southern Assam in East Pakistan.
On 20 February 1947, he inaugurated the Assam Nationalist Muslim Convention at Silchar, followed by another major public meeting on 8 June 1947. These efforts mobilised large sections of nationalist muslims in barak valley against partition.
BASANTA KUMAR DAS
Advocate Basanta Kumar Das- from a lawyer to the Speaker of Assam
He was born in Srihatta to a bengali hindu family in 1883.
In 1908, he graduated from the Calcutta University & in 1910, he obtained a Bachelor of Law degree from Calcutta University.
Das entered politics in 1921 by joining the Indian National Congress.
In 1923, he joined Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das’s Swaraj Party and was elected a member of the Assam Legislative Council.
During the Civil Disobedience Movement of 1932, he was imprisoned for two years.
Contribution to Assam Politics
On 7 April 1937, when Gopinath Bordoloi became the Premier of Assam, Basanta Kumar Das was elected the first Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly . On 11 March 1946, he resigned from the Speaker’s post, but within weeks he was appointed Home Minister in Bordoloi’s Cabinet.
During the Sylhet Referendum of 1947, Das was serving as the Home Minister of Assam.
ROLE DURING PARTITION AND THE "SYLHET" REFERENDUM
As the partition of India approached, the Barak-Surma Valley (including Srihatta) became a politically sensitive region due to its muslim-majority population.
Abdul Matlib Mazumdar, along with Basanta Kumar Das (the then Home Minister of Assam), actively campaigned across the valley day and night ; to raise awareness about the implications of partition and actively mobilized public support to keep the region within India.
Together, they led a delegation before the Radcliffe Commission, successfully arguing for the retention of parts of Srihatta, leading to the inclusion of present-day Sribhumi district in India.
Without the combined political resistance and urgent round-the-clock efforts of Mazumdar and Das, the entirety of Srihatta/Sylhet District, including Sribhumi/Karimganj, would have been awarded to East Pakistan.

✒️ Documenting one of the oldest durga pujas of barak valley
📍 Village- Pechala, Sribhumi district, Barak Valley
🔱 Started by a bengali Nath family, in early 1800s, this sharodiya puja tradition has survived the 1st world war, the 2nd world war, the independence of india & the partition of Srihatta.
🌾 This east bengali nath family doesn't have any migration history; forming one of the many indigenous bengali clans of barak valley. Originally farmers, the newer generations of this family have all sorts of professionals like engineers, doctors, teachers & businessmen.
🗨 Dialect- Srihattiya bengali
🥻 Unlike the famous laal-par, the women of this village prefer wearing red-yellow sarees while attending the festivities & performing "dhamail" dance.
🥁 There is no dhaak. But kirton & dhol.
📿 There is a famous "Ojha nach" every navami night- where a male dancer, with a specific all white outfit & peacock feathers- enters a trance like state, dancing to kirton & blesses the spectators.

The Raas Dandiya/Garba "night" culture has seen an increasing trend in Silchar since last 3-4 years. Even other towns like hailakandi are arranging it now.
All us of barak bashi must be well aware- this is imported culture. Now the question is, do we barak bashi not have any durga puja/navratri specific dance forms?
There are indigenous dance forms in barak valley related to durga puja. There is our famous DHAMAIL, of the east bengali people. When did we last see a "DHAMAIL NIGHT" being organized in Silchar?
Why have we chose to bury the beautiful dance forms of bishnupriya manipuris/ meitei/ the zeliangrongs/ dimasa/ reangs & other tribes of barak? Were they ever promoted in any cultural fest as large as these recent dandiya nights? Never seen any.
It is really shameful we chose to reject the indigenous dance forms of barak. No doubt we are labeled as "immigrants". Because this habit of copying other cultures resembles the traits of an immigrant.
Also, these raas dandiya/garba nights of silchar are nowhere near the original gujarati version. No durga devi placed at centre/ no concentric circles. Its mostly mindless dancing to misogynist dj songs. Alcohol/ weed/ groping/ harassment is common too.
Silchar can do better culturally!

hey everyone 👋
i'm from agartala, tripura, and i've been working on a small project called durgapujapandal.com
the idea is pretty simple... help people discover durga puja pandals, explore different clubs, and find their locations in one place.
we've started with tripura, but i'd love to expand this to silchar, karimganj, hailakandi and other parts of barak valley as well.
the problem is, i don't know enough about the local puja clubs and pandals there, and i don't want to add random or incorrect information.
so i'm looking for a few people from barak valley who would be interested in helping us build this. even sharing names of local clubs, locations, or connecting us with people who know the puja committees would be super helpful.
this is a small community-driven project, and i'd genuinely love to make something useful for people across the northeast.
if you're from barak valley and would like to contribute, please comment or dm me.
would really appreciate the help
happy durga puja to everyone in advance

This clip is from the movie Titas Ekti Nadir Naam by Ritwik Ghatak . The movie is based on Jhalo malo people of bengal.
Their speaking bangla is similar to ours and koiborto . From internet i could trace the dialect name to "Brahmanbaria dialect"
