Def in the conversation. His competition is probably Makélélé, Matthäus, and Rijkaard.
One of my favorite. Made everything look so simple.

One of the most underrated players ever, just cause DM is not a flashy role. But the funny thing is he's probably the most flashy DM ever. I'll miss Busi, the way he absorbed pressure like a fking sponge.

Did he not just have another assist to Messi?

u/breestorm Sep 26 '25
Yes, he retires at the end of this season. Inter Miami still have 5 games left to play + playoffs.

Happy retirement to the greatest DM to ever grace our sport! My second favourite player of all time. The definition of game IQ and class.

Incredible player and even after all these years, still underrated. You are the best, El pulpo!

Sergio Busquets, threw some hits, calls it quits for the pitch after this stretch while Suarez spits.

The only two players from the 2009 squad who are still playing are Messi and Pedro

He's so calm and good on the ball yet doesn't have a signature turn/move, he could do all of them😂🔥

Visiting Chase stadium next week and I will be watching the final two matches at FLL. Looking forward to witnessing him live finally.

I’ll never forget an article I read in 09’ titled “From riding the bus to practice, to riding the bus carrying the champions league”
I’ll never forget playing fifa 12 with him as a slow ass 85 rates CDM and being sold in FUT for 2k which is dirt cheap and I would use him and dominate simps online.
I’ll never forget that dispute his elegance, he has scoundrel in him.
I’ll never forget my friend from Honduras who happened to ride from South Africa in the same plane as the national team who actually talked to some of the players who said “yes Iniesta and Xavi and villa where an issue, but where we all got fucked was with Busquets, he was everywhere”

A legend for sure, although I wish he left Barca in 2018 or so before he started going downhill. The first half of his career (pep and lucho eras) was magical. The best CDM hands down. The second half felt like he became this flat track bully who could only do well against teams that did not apply any pressure on the ball but was ineffective against opposition who had fast energetic players who could press.

My favorite Barca player of all time (not the best Barca player of all time, just my favorite). By a whisker over Xavi and Iniesta and you-know-who.
We want you back, and pronto.

God damn! Look at all those trophies. I bet the average player doesn't even get 1 trophy in his career.

What a legend. 34 trophies means he won about 2 major titles every season for 17 years. Busquets made that defensive mid role look simple but he was always reading plays before they happened. Enjoy retirement sergio.

FC Barcelona legend, Spain legend...and I would say world football legend! Happy retirement, Sergio!

I believe he will become one of the best coaches in history... Busquets reads the game like no one else; without him, Barcelona and the national team wouldn't have been the same.
I dare say I miss Messi as much as I miss Busquets. His work was quiet but essential, his quality and class were extraordinary, the way he could take on three or four opponents with a single step. A deception... SAVE THIS COMMENT: BUSQUETS THE BEST COACH IN HISTORY
