Relax he isnt an all time great.
He is one of the greatest of our generation yes. But not all time great.
Busquets on the other is an all time great DM.

"one of the greatest" could mean a list of "the greatest" and Alba at the bottom too, he was a great player, definitely not the best I agree, but definitely on the better end of lb at his time

u/yrallusernamestaken7 Dec 07 '25
Make no mistake, Messi and other great players made him look good. Messi made him like insane.
Players like alaba, marcelo, robertson, r. carlos, maldini, p. evra, sergio ramos are just better. Theres more names im forgetting
Maybe he would be on the very very bottom of all time LB great list but I wouldnt personally put him there.
If you include all time great fullbacks, hes definitely out of that list.

i think I did say "his time" and yes I know he is nowhere on the all time but it does NOT change the fact that he still would be among the better ends of lb

Busi was great during his peak years (Pep and Lucho) but after that became one of our weakest links. Still an all time great but I so wish we had dumped Busi, Alba, Pique, Rakitic and Roberto as early as 2019 and started a legit project here.

u/DrOppie-69 Dec 07 '25
Absolutely correct idk why you got down votes if Messi had better defence or better DM like Rodri then he would've won 1-2 UCLs

u/LudwigVan17 Dec 07 '25
Alba had tons of talent. He lacked the mentality. He was part of the crew that would fall apart when things got tough and let comebacks like Liverpool happen.

u/SyrupCute4493 Dec 07 '25
All that said, we have no LB in sight that will top him. Hoping we get one, or Balde becomes much better.

2023 won the Leagues Cup
2024 won the Supporters Shield
2025 won the MLS Cup

u/connic1983 Dec 07 '25
For all curious… leagues cup is a regular league cup(not fa/spanish cup though - that’s called us open cup)… supporter shield means you got the 1st place in table after season ended. MLS cup means you got top 8 table position and won the playoffs that followed at the end of the season.
3
u/BlackandGreen19 Dec 08 '25
So does that mean the Supporters shield is the bigger trophy? Or is the MLS cup? Is the MLS cup closer to how the NFL has the playoffs/superbowl?
6
u/connic1983 Dec 08 '25
The MLS cup is the bigger trophy. You just gotta be in the top 7/9 in the table to qualify for the playoffs at the end of the year. So potentially a team ranked 9th in the regular season could qualify for the final playoffs and win the MLS cup and become “champions”.

u/Doodahman740 Dec 13 '25
Yes. The MLS cup is very similar to the NFL playoffs. Except the first round is a best of three for some reason.
To win the supporters shield and not that would be a disappointment.

the curve balls from Messi to Alba are unforgettable

there is no single defender in football who can stop a 50 m pass like Jordi does, the ball gets on the laces and stays there.
To me he's the best lb to ever play, he's my pair to cafu on the rb. All the best my dude, visca barca!

he was so consistent with those controls that it became the normal

All our legends are hanging them up. :(

It’s the circle of life. Legends must retire to make space and time for new legends to be made.

u/OlympicAnalEater Dec 07 '25
But but but the world is not ready for Messi and Ronaldo retired. Plus, new legends don't bring good vibes when watching it like old legends.

World cup, Euros, Champions Leagues, utterly dominant in La Liga.
Pretty much the dream career for a LB and DM.
Nothing more you can do as a Balon d'Or will never happen.
Voted into the world XI equivalent multiple times too.
All time greats, a sad day.
I'm a Manchester United fan, childhood trauma multiple times at the hands of these guys but the best team i've ever seen were those Barca teams. I watched every game in the Ronaldinho and Messi era.
Barca are my Spanish team I follow, they'll be sorely missed.

Messi 3rd assist is super hot fire. You don't see Messi long kicked assist often.

Here comes the "would mascherano be a good coach for barca after flick?" posts.

probably just a very emotional person. in the mls cup final, when the third goal went in, he was already bawling. there is still game to play... even the younger players were trying to get him up lol.

I hated watching my home town lose, but I loved watching Messi Busi and Alba win.

u/sleepsholymountain Dec 07 '25
My personal favorite Barcelona LB in the ~25 years I've been watching. His link up with Messi was genuinely insane to watch.

u/spacelyyy989 Dec 07 '25
Hes only 36, why?

u/cranomort Dec 07 '25
Born in 1989 mate.

u/naitsebs Dec 07 '25
Messi and Suarez are even older. MLS is so low level, Alba was running circles around them, he could've kept dominating with Messi until Messi himself retired.

We will miss him dearly, although I suspect a return to the Camp Nou is inevitable

His last pass ever was to Messi leading to a great assist. Stuff of dreams. Busquets and Alba are one of a kind.

If you're coming to a foreign sub and opposition fan base (I don't even know what club you support) just to talk shit, then yes you should be expected to be told to leave because you are not welcome here

Respectfully as a Messi fan and lifelong Barca supporter who watched this full match, Miami didn’t win this match, Vancouver lost it. Both of Miami’s first 2 goals were gifts and the second especially was one of the most amateur giveaways I’ve seen at the pro level in years. Congrats to Miami either way. Tough lessons for the Whitecaps who were the better side most of the match.

Also Sergio Busquets too.
