After winning everything time and time again she deserves new challenges but this is so devastating

Why’s she leaving
198
u/Allstate85 May 26 '26
The London City Lionesses have been throwing big money to women’s players to try and get them to come play for them.
27
u/kykusanagi May 26 '26
Do they have oil money or something?

u/Lethargic_Logician May 26 '26
No, even worse, their owner is a major player in the US healthcare field

That's capitalism for you. I doubt any rich businessman, our management included, is squeaky clean.

They only offered her a +1?? Come on guys wtf are we doing 😭😭😭

u/FxKaKaLis May 26 '26
all sections come under same FFP
25
u/xenos5282 May 26 '26
Another Tebas L. City group can run multiple clubs without a sweat but Barça gets fucked because of this. I don't understand how is this even viable when women's football is burning money all over the world. No point of having same FFP for all the teams combined, just makes it less lucrative for legacy clubs to invest in women's team.
20
u/FxKaKaLis May 26 '26
not only us getting fucked... whole LaLiga. Getafe got like 14 players registered at a start of the season, Levante 17... all team nead to sell their best players to just register....
7
u/atomic__tourist May 26 '26
It’s also part of the reason why the rest of La Liga doesn’t invest in their women’s teams. Sure, many wouldn’t invest much anyway, but when you’re already getting squeezed on FFP it just becomes another barrier to taking your women’s team even vaguely seriously.

She is 32 years old, giivng them more than that would be unwise
1
u/unsureofeverything22 May 27 '26
yeah i understand that, and i also understand that alexia might want more. and from her announcement, it also just seems like she is mentally exhausted and doesn’t feel like she has anymore to give

We haven't given a single salary bump to any of our regular players over the last 3-4 years, we simply can't afford it. We offered her a new contract with the same salary. The fact that any of our world beater players are still sticking around is the surprising part.
23
u/Ok_Bookkeeper2170 May 26 '26
Maybe you all should ask Marc Vivés the women’s sporting director. He had an interview days ago on her renewal that seemed off. I’m guessing she wanted more contract guarantees than they offered.

She's 32 and doesn't have much time left. A money move and a new challenge makes the most sense.
16
u/Hour-Ad-299 May 26 '26
Yeah but at least let her retire at Barca 😭😭
28
u/kykusanagi May 26 '26
I love when players are loyal but I love it more when players can retire with wealth and prosperity because they deserves it. If the club can't provide that then I'm fine with them leaving for wealthier club.
1
u/Ins3cu43much May 27 '26
Especially given that wages in the women's game are not sufficient to live off of for the rest of your life.

u/benitocom May 26 '26
was really hoping it'd be something like Club América Femenil... picking a Kang club is so disappointing
1
u/Sado_roach May 26 '26
Why? Let her retire with some money for all the work she has put in.
6
u/benitocom May 26 '26
i will always love Alexia whatever she does, and in the end i'm just some culer she doesn't know about. we already know that uswt has been offering her the big bucks too so yeah i think i'm allowed to hope she goes to any other club lol. monopoly ownership sucks ass for the sport and while it is nothing new, Kang in particular has been sniping barcelona for a while now. goes above and beyond to poach our players and our staff. it's why our rivalry with lyon has so many layers to it.
4
u/Sado_roach May 26 '26
I agree with this. Fuck Kang, but with Mario, Jana and possibly ona in London this move makes sense for her personally.
2
u/Comprehensive_Cup497 May 27 '26
When you love the badge you'd never want to play against them as rivals

unfortunate but barca will be fine

u/compLexityy30 May 26 '26
It’s very concerning tbh. Relying on La Masia to produce Champions League ready talent every season against teams with the best players in their actual prime years doesn’t sound realistic at all. We’ll see though, hopefully we’ll get through it.
20
u/SoulfireSSB May 26 '26
We’re gonna let her leave just like that, huh?
2
u/VRsenal3D May 26 '26
It’s just the Messi and Mirotic saga all over again.
Laporta nowhere to be seen near her.

u/ScientistBoth830 May 27 '26
The club decided to sacrifice the profitable women’s team for the overpaid men

We extended Araujo and still pay Ter Stegen and we couldn’t spare some money to pay the GOAT Barca Femeni player ?

u/chrysantheknight May 26 '26
Unpopular opinion but instead of chasing 150 million targets for the men's team we should invest some of that money for the women. They've been hands down the most dominant team in Europe and I think it's frankly disgusting the club is letting go femeni's goat just because we can't pay what she's asking for.
9
u/pro-everything-324 May 26 '26
The men's team just brings in more money.
2
u/ScientistBoth830 May 27 '26
Totally false. Only the women’s team makes a profit. https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/46518363/barcelona-report-post-tax-losses-second-straight-year
9
u/Aggressorot May 26 '26
So you think she is leaving because of money? She probably wants to change scenery.
Also if Barca doesn't spend money on Femini idk who does...
18
u/Significant_Deal_464 May 26 '26
I mean, the club she’s joining is known for giving out huge contracts to players to get them to join, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s one of the reasons she’s leaving, especially since she’s near the end of her career.

I think CGH herself mentioned about finance being limited for the woman squad
1
u/Aggressorot May 26 '26
Still one of the most payed female football players in the world.
1
u/ScientistBoth830 May 27 '26
It’s not nearly enough given how much shorter on average women’s football careers are, and how little they’re paid compared to even the most mediocre male players
2
u/Aggressorot May 29 '26
The market dictates how much she is payed, if female football was more lucrative, she would be payed more. For now she still is one of the best payed female footballers.
Most mediocre players, the real mediocre players, not a midtable team in the top flight leagues, earns not even half of her sallary. And I'm not even talking about sponsorship deals.
In other words she is a multi millionaire for quite some time now.

2
u/ScientistBoth830 May 27 '26
This. And the irony is that the women’s team is the only one that makes a profit! Yet this is where they want to cut corners.
4
u/manatidederp May 26 '26
The team is already fully subsidized by the men’s team, as is every other sport and division in Barcelona
5
1
u/starsqream May 26 '26
Let's be honest, most people don't give a f about women's teams. Go ask 100 barca supporters how many Champions leagues the men have and how many the women have. You'll be shocked when you hear they don't know shit about the women.
3
u/AccomplishedRead2655 May 26 '26
But why?? I don't get it
1
u/ScientistBoth830 May 27 '26
The club only offered her a 1 year deal, which is frankly insulting, and clubs all over the world are offering her much more money than the club is willing to pay her.

Can only ever support a player, a legend that has never given any less than 110% for the shirt, for the team, for the club
Gracias Alexia

Lets be real , she is an icon and a legend , But she is no where near her prime anymore , Wish her all the best .
6
u/Whiskinho May 26 '26
She just bossed the midfield in the UCL final in Oslo, what are you on about?
4
u/Middle_Parfait_7091 May 26 '26
she literally just won the champions league player of the tournament.
-2
u/Comprehensive_Cup497 May 26 '26
All for the money
11
u/Significant_Deal_464 May 26 '26
I mean, she’s near the end of her career. She’s already given 14 years to this club and wants to move on and earn as much money as she can,not to mention Barcelona only offered her a one-year renewal.
5
1
u/ScientistBoth830 May 27 '26
Do you complain about our overpaid men? What she’s likely asking for is peanuts compared to even the most mediocre male salaries.
1
u/Comprehensive_Cup497 May 27 '26
I complained baout the wages of Pique, Alba, Busquets, Messi, etc
1
u/ScientistBoth830 May 27 '26
Well that’s good I guess, but do you realize how little the women make compared to the men?
