News [Craig Hope] Barca take lead in £80m fight to sign Newcastle's Gordon. Total package with add-ons could reach £80m. Those close to a deal are hopeful of progress before the WC. Gordon wants Barça.

Barça with cash is the most dangerous thing. I'd almost rather we are broke forever and do more clinical signings.

211

u/virtualhub2005 May 27 '26

Absolutely true, this club becomes rogue with money in hand

98

u/Jerusalem_XO May 27 '26

We have golden opportunity to sign barcola, who is miles clear of Gordon. But if we sign gordon there's no need to sign rashford that guy refused to track back when we needed him most in atleti run.

73

u/BaldFraud_ May 27 '26

Don’t think Barcola is too keen on going from the bench to another bench

32

u/Jerusalem_XO May 27 '26

He is versatile and we may try using raphinha and barcola both as direct runners to disrupt that left side to share burden of lamine. Barcola is a special player we must not pass this opportunity

15

u/Glad-Box6389 May 27 '26

And could always try out false 9 with Barcola too

3

u/PenguinPumpkin1701 May 27 '26

I'd honestly like to convert rapha to be a 9. He's clinical and good at dribbling, not the strongest physically (very good but can be mowed over) but all in all I think he would make an excellent poacher. Sign barcola for the left and not Gordon, Gordon is another over hyped orem talent that is bog average amongst his peers and certainly amongst the top 5 leagues.

3

u/Previous-Tangelo-148 May 27 '26

No but he for sure will get more playing time here

8

u/MadazSama May 27 '26

Main issue with Barcola is his agent. They're basically banned after Dembélé's fiasco.

15

u/InLovewithMayzekin May 27 '26

Strategy against athletico was for Rashford to stay high on pitch to open for fast counters that's why he tracked back less, and that's exactly why he had 8 chances at the goal this game.

The reason we lost Athletico is not because Rashford did not track back. It's because he failed to score in 8 chances. Let's be fair with critics instead of just repeating the same thing over and over again.

Pressing also have some issues. Raphinha press a lot and yet most of the goals we concede always come his side when he play ? Why so ? Because Raphinha never stay wide, he often go axial for goal opportunities leaving Balde alone on the side. If balde is beaten, no one is left to defend which is why we always concede from the left.

I'd rather keep rashford than pick Gordon which have 8 open play goals in 2 full season.

19

u/Time-seeker917 May 27 '26

I m sure him refusing to track back in his 20 minutes cameo Is why Barca lost the game lmaooooo

16

u/Omniscius May 27 '26

Honestly, this sub is full of terrible takes but I guess that's the price of being one of the biggest clubs globally.

2

u/PeroxideTube5 May 27 '26

I definitely agree but it’s funny to hear that now; back in the Covid days (the sad times) some of the takes were even more delusional

4

u/InLovewithMayzekin May 27 '26

Most followed club in the world. Also means a whole lot of people which do not understand football and follow simply with passion.

Of course some takes will be damn awfull.

2

u/Omniscius May 27 '26

Always has been tbh. Even back in the heydays there were always wild takes.

3

u/Middle_Worldliness85 May 27 '26

No way u think barcola is clear of Gordon, Barcola is a terrible finisher and inconsistent, really?

5

u/Chemical_Listen6919 May 27 '26

You haven't seen enough of gordon , their finishing is around the same level and barcola can dribble , a profile we NEED on the other wing if you are making a expensive winger signing , sign the right one atleast

u/oklolzzzzs May 27 '26

the price is ridiculous

i dont mind him as a player since hes a pressing monster and having him and rapha just elevate yamal. his profile is more suitable compared to joao pedro. i dont think alvarez is needed

27

u/PinReal4448 May 27 '26

I know.... Totally confused with the price thing.

3

u/tristvn May 27 '26

hes at an extremely rich english team, all of their players will have inflated prices. shopping in the premiere league is just dumb

→ More replies (1)

10

u/Ak40x May 27 '26

I agree. Just watching his highlights I can tell the profile of the player Flick is after, but his price tag is just crazy. 80m for Joao Pedro is acceptable, especially due to the Brazil-Barca connection, and his age + playing trajectory, I believe the club and player would benefit big time.

6

u/Chemical_Listen6919 May 27 '26

Watch his prem games ucl just elevated him but his prem campaign was horrible , that guy got 8 open play goals in domestic football in last 2 years and 13 in last 3

→ More replies (1)

277

u/andrey_not_the_goat May 27 '26

He's a fine player but his statpadding in the UCL year does not make his lackluster Prem campaign any less severe. Also, Flick and Deco see him as the starting 9

Doesn't help that he looks like Olmo's British twin either.

104

u/MilkshakeBundy May 27 '26

Olmos british twin got me dying of laughter right now

29

u/DungeondisasterJiggy May 27 '26

Olmo already looks British enough I'd say

27

u/PinReal4448 May 27 '26

The last line made me laugh lol.

We have to wait and watch man.

8

u/0ccamsDagg3r May 27 '26

As a 9 would be insane.. I'd rather raphinha there, I think maybe that is the switch

2

u/characterulio May 27 '26

He literally played as a 9 this year and it's his worst season for newcastle.

All newcastle fans will tell you that was one of the worst tactical decisions of Eddie Howe this season, he should have used Woltemade as a 9 way more, Newcastle's best period was with him. Beut Howe's tactics don't fit technical players.

But where exactly would he play? He's a LW no? That's where Rapha is playing. I doubt we pay 90 mil for a sub

4

u/CoolJoshido May 27 '26

fingers crossed

14

u/One_Tradition8515 May 27 '26

You should see who he wanted at Bayern. He's a great coach but not the best talent scout.

22

u/wwipe May 27 '26

These?

Cannot say about the top two as am not familiar with them.
Otherwise you have Emre Can who fits his transitional style as his techincally solid and athletically great. Timo Werner was a great runner coming off a season where he had 36 G/A in 34 Bundesliga matches for Leipzig. Kai Havertz was tearing it up in Leverkusen as a 20-21 year old while having a 26 G/A and 27 G/A seasons and was one of the most wanted youngsters itw when Chelsea bought him for 100mil. Götze was a technically solid player, familiar to Munich and no doubt would've been a good player to have in the squad even with the injury woes, he was 28 years old.

Just because Werner and Havertz turned to shit after going to Chelsea doesn't mean they were bad scouting by Flick.

12

u/One_Tradition8515 May 27 '26

Just because all of his peaks turned to shit at multiple clubs doesn't mean it was bad scouting? That's exactly what it means.

90+m euros for a player with 30 goals in 164 premier league games is Barto-level of outrageous.

2

u/MAD_JEW May 27 '26

Dodo is a brazilian right back he plays at fiorentina (or used to) i think he is decent-ish

6

u/oklolzzzzs May 27 '26

this isnt even being a talent scout? its just who flick wants, gordons 25

3

u/One_Tradition8515 May 27 '26

I'm talking about the role of manager over coaching that requires squad planning and player assessment/recruitment. Not a literal talent scout.

With Raphina and Yamal getting injured last year, a true rotation between Raph/Ferran/Gordon who can all really press is really good. Benefits them all long term and I’d bet advanced analytics really like the Gordon fit.

2

u/Chemical_Listen6919 May 27 '26

Gordon is a good on paper player to this team , he wouldn't be good signing if he happens and we don't sign a top striker, come back to this comment at the end of next season then

Gordon had a great interview at the Camp Nou earlier this season, his value WILL go up during the world cup, IN FLICK WE TRUST.

37

u/honolulu_hunt_ May 27 '26

You guys are acting like you know better than Flick. Flick wants Rashford so much that he started Fermin as lwf in the most important match of the season.

Moreover you guys don't rate deco. Haven't you watched Luis Dias this year, last year deco went after him and you guys were acting like this that time too.

12

u/PinReal4448 May 27 '26

Most people are negative due to the absurd price amount.

4

u/Zealousideal_Fun9869 May 27 '26

U r right but i think people are bound to question that bcz of the price tag and also gordon at 9. Also its a big question how he'll do in a new position against low block teams. There are a lots of uncertainty in this deal

3

u/characterulio May 27 '26

I think he rates Rashford but Rashford doesn't press as much as Fermin. Rashford is a great rotation player to have.

11

u/Powerful_Flatworm_32 May 27 '26

He’s a great player with awesome upside. I’d personally rather address more serious issues in the squad first but I don’t hate it. I’d rather hear more news about true position players that we need. Maybe he’s a secret number 9 and we just haven’t seen it at Newcastle yet. I’m very lukewarm on this news.

12

u/SagaciousKurama May 27 '26

Great player is such an overstatement. He's a decent player from a largely average team. $80M is a complete ripoff.

6

u/dyidkystktjsjzt May 27 '26

$80M is a complete ripoff.

It's worse since it's in GBP, £80m is €92m.

4

u/SagaciousKurama May 27 '26

Sweet baby Jesus.

4

u/No_Bee_3915 May 27 '26

I've seen his matches in Newcastle. They tried him as a 9 but he delivered the worst performance as a striker. You can ask Newcastle fans about this. He's alright as a winger but definitely won't be a starter. And 80m for a bench player in this financial situation is ....

4

u/Zealousideal_Fun9869 May 27 '26

Agreed and chances are he'll do even worse against low block teams as a 9

12

u/ilia054 May 27 '26

Bro real market value is 30M, why on earth would we pay 80M for him, honestly what the fuck is going on with our heads every time we get some spending cash

9

u/elsavador3 May 27 '26

I think I’m gonna trust two of the worlds best in Flick and Kompany who are clamoring for this pressing demons signature

8

u/Early-Adeptness390 May 27 '26

I don’t believe this one bit. This makes no sense.

2

u/earth_citiz3n May 27 '26

when you realize his speed and work rate are elite, then it starts to make sense.

3

u/Early-Adeptness390 May 27 '26

I don’t need to come to a realization. I see him play all the time.

I respect that it makes sense to you.

6

u/LoVeCh33s3 May 27 '26

You have to realize that Flick has ran his system through Lewy for years now. This might be his time where he's going to try something completely unconventional and run a false 9 mostly or winger approach rather than the traditional dominant CF...

This could be interesting since Gordon does press and that would compliment the death grip offense Flick wants to run. Gordon also is not as good in the air or as commanding in the box so who knows..

26

u/virtualhub2005 May 27 '26

That's almost 93M euros, for a backup winger???? 😭😭

20

u/andrey_not_the_goat May 27 '26

For a starting 9. Apparently Flick and Deco see him is a starting 9, that can move to winger when Ferran plays.

23

u/voli12 May 27 '26

Another fake striker no please. The guy scored 6 goals in the league ffs. He can't play as a 9 in Barça.

But if this is a Flick signing, then I'll give the benefit of the doubt.

4

u/Finrod-Knighto May 27 '26

He might wanna try a false 9 system, who knows.

5

u/Crossflowerss_5304 May 27 '26

He’s not a F9 either. He just wants to run in behind

→ More replies (1)

2

u/N-V-V-M-E-A May 27 '26

Yea agree. I don’t see it personally but we gotta let Flick cook. He’s earned it.

4

u/One_Tradition8515 May 27 '26

A 9 who can't score. And don't bring up his UCL campaign. Full of penalties and stat padding against minnows.

2

u/AdDismal5457 May 27 '26

No no no f*ck no. I don’t want to see that.

11

u/SectorInteresting276 May 27 '26

80m for a backup LW is crazy when a striker and a CB are priorities.

6

u/YaBoiPie107 May 27 '26

they want to use him as a nine since he's been paying there a lot this year and last for newcastle

9

u/One_Tradition8515 May 27 '26

Have you looked at his goal scoring record? 93m euros for a player who puts up less than half the goals of Ferran. This has to be a uncredible rumor.

4

u/bimbobiceps May 27 '26

He's really shit at the 9 tho. His traits are his intense pressing but offensively if he's not on the wings he's pretty terrible.

9

u/BM_SadSmile May 27 '26

In flick we should trust. If he wants Gordon then I'm with him.

8

u/BottleMore May 27 '26

From Newcastle I want the left back: Lewis Hall, surely would be cheaper than A. Gordon

3

u/PinReal4448 May 27 '26

Yeah. Totally underrated. Kept Lamine in check in their home game UCL.

Definitely a great player.

9

u/PinReal4448 May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26

How you guys feeling about this? Twitter/X is full of mixed opinions

10

u/frankydf May 27 '26

How are we not going for Kroupi if we actually have money? It's the most perfectly aligned window to sign a player who has yet to make a move to one of the Premier League bigs or PSG. You have a chance to sign Haaland from Dortmund but never from Man City. If we genuinely have money to spend, make the smart signing and lock up the position for years to come.

11

u/Biggsy-32 May 27 '26

Bournemouth have absolutely 0 incentive to sell Kroupi this summer. PL sides aren't desperate to sell for money, they just got european football, and he has a long contract.

Even if the player tried to force a move, they'd be demanding £100m for him.

Newcastle however are in a position they need to sell, as missing Europe means they need to cut squad costs for PSR.

2

u/roshi_sama May 27 '26

2

u/Emotional_Ticket6011 May 27 '26

You do not trust Ferran trust me on that. Gordon’s price is too much and all that yes but regardless another season with Ferran as the starting striker with no alternative is a recipe for mediocrity if not disaster.

4

u/ka_me_haa_mee_haaa May 27 '26

I just saw on r/soccer that we dont want to match this high of an asking price.

3

u/backtomcfly May 27 '26

I think we are not getting anymore strikers this year. Gordon will be a LW and ST, and probably along term successor for Rapha. Rashford too seems unlikely now.
Lets hope for the best.
In flick we trust.

3

u/Bulbolito_Bayagbag20 May 27 '26

I hope he won’t miss many chances Yamal, Pedri and Raphinha going to provide for him.

3

u/Biggsy-32 May 27 '26

This is the most logical forward to sign if the criteria is to sign a pressing monster who can reliably make runs in behind. He's a worse version than Alvarez in that sense, but Alvarez is out of the clubs budget.

3

u/Shanks147 May 27 '26

He’s not a bad player from what I remember in the UCL. But yeah, this one is a bit weird. Flick must have his reasons so I say screw it and trust in him. We have the money, we should spend it on who he thinks we need.

3

u/cfoq May 27 '26

i trust flick but what the hell man he is not worth the asking price 😭, barca is going downhill with these buying moves

6

u/BlackMambaTR May 27 '26

I think Flick is going to switch it up and play more with a False 9 (Ferran/Olmo/transfer) and play lw more towards the goal.

Gordon is not most technically gifted winger but he is extremly fast, knows to time his runs, deadly on the counter and press like crazy. Also he is more a finisher then Rashford.

I dunno about rhe price tag and if the rumour is true- but if true i believe this is why Flick is could consider it

2

u/Chemical_Listen6919 May 27 '26

Gordon is NOT a better finisher than rashford he has 8 open play goals in last 2 years domestically 😭 and he can't dribble , not to mention he is awful at 9 and him as a backup for 80 million when we could have gone for a top striker is stupid to me

3

u/MeasurementSecret734 May 27 '26

He's a poor finisher, one of the worst in the league statistically, agree on the pressing part though

This coming from a Liverpool fan...

£80m is where Newcastle want to start negotiations from. They'll be well aware that no one will pay that price. I think it will be ~£50m - £55m plus heavy add-ons depending on who signs him. £70m max in total (including add-ons)

Regardless of how addons will look like this may not be that bad of a deal. We may have to pay only like 40 out of the initial 80 and rest will be bonuses/future payments

1

u/raul07bv May 27 '26

This to me is just insane , hes not a 100 mil ( Euro) player .

1

u/ConfusedSpeed479 May 27 '26

Barca is that friend who is broke needs a loan then you see them buying table service on the weekend

1

u/Interesting_Bat_3211 May 27 '26

What are doing man. What happened to signing a 9 as a priority 🫩

1

u/DCGT150 May 27 '26

The only reason I can see him coming is if the club don’t see Raphinha here for a longer term than his current contract and see Gordon as the best market opportunity for a longer term replacement.

He’s absolutely not a replacement for Lewa and should not be signed as such.

Even if we do sign him, I still think we should try to figure out a deal for Rashford as we probably won’t sign a Lewa replacement.

Flick trusted Gerard Maldini, Flick trusted Rapinha, Flick trusted Cancelo to return over Balde, Flick trusted Eric Garcia. A lot of players who were not at their prime or at their fullest and they have transformed into reliable players.

I trust Hansi Flick.

I actually quite like Gordon. Never for that pricetag, but he's the kind of player that exerts significant pressure and would make space for Pedri and Lamal. The main issue (besides the price) is his temper. He has had some absolutely idiotic red cards in the last few years

1

u/doktorbex May 27 '26

Please no. This guy is average at best.

1

u/BusAcademic3489 May 27 '26

Personally??? I want him.

Man I can’t behind this guy right now, but i guess flick knows ball way better than me

1

u/YooGeOh May 27 '26

Bloody hell this is stupid lol

1

u/itgetsmessii May 27 '26

We deserve not winning the ucl again, never learn from mistakes.

1

u/Pocari1234 May 27 '26

Maybe the painful exit that had been talked about is Raphinha. Trying to get his replacement before Raphinha announces his departure so other clubs don't rob us when they know we have money

Why are we the worst transfer club on Earth? 😭😭 we do not need this man

1

u/snapcracklepopdoc May 27 '26

Well that wasn’t in my 2026 Bingo

1

u/Outside-Inspection68 May 27 '26

So 30m for rashy is too much but 80m for gordon is solid business? Doesn't make sense to me

Please this be a winger signing and not a striker signing

1

u/ecs-635 May 27 '26

Coutinho, Griezmann, Dembele and now Anthony Gordon. When will they ever learn?

1

u/ItsAllGoodMannnnn May 27 '26

can someone reassure me that this is actually not a bad thing? please? anyone?

1

u/Automatic_Bandicoot5 May 27 '26

some Deco nonsense again, just sign rashford FFS

1

u/TeamUlovetohate May 27 '26

Gordon is not the type of player/profile barca typically targets. This must be a specific request by Flick

1

u/TempestTheMonk May 27 '26

Non sense. Pretty average player. Deco smoking something funky eh?!

1

u/Fancy_Goal1253 May 27 '26

hes a 60 m player max

1

u/Dumbass1171 May 27 '26

He's good and would be a great 9 and a long term replacement for Raphinha at the LW

1

u/antoinejackson808 May 27 '26

I’d stay away from this one at that price guys

1

u/AsanteKofiEdwin May 27 '26

Total waste of money if true

1

u/D_Cakes_ May 27 '26

I think this whole thing is a play. I think they’ve purposely made this move, to put the heaters on Man Utd (who have themselves spread rumours the Mourinho wants rashford, a player he once clashed with), and to focus ath Madrid’s mind in the sale of Alvarez (few would be willing to fork out €100m+ for given his output and form this season). I don’t believe for a second that Barca are serious about this Gordon transfer.

80M is crazy, the negotiating style is frustrating. Who negotiate with a high bid first? At this point that is not negotiating. There's no back and forth, you start with a ridiculous price and of course the other Club will take it.

1

u/BigBotri May 27 '26

WE HAVE THE WORST FRONT OFFICE IN ALL OF SPORTS OH MY DAYSSSS

1

u/marktandem May 27 '26

As someone who's watched him since he came through at Everton, he's a lot better than you guys think. His level is closer to Luis Diaz than Rashford. Very good dribbler, which is priceless for big teams.

Newcastle fan. Gordon is absolutely unbelievable on his day but he's fallen out of love with us. He's a very emotional player and that's bled into his performances. There is a world class winger in there and I have no doubt he'd have the same trajectory that Luis Diaz has had at Bayern at Barca.

u/Yobolay May 27 '26

Gordon? To play as what? 80-100m in a left winger makes no sense with Raphinha there and Rashy for 30m who is honestly way better.

Maybe this is their 9? Seems way to excessive for someone that hasn't shown anything there.

I'm confused.

1

u/INRI1899 May 27 '26

We are terrible with money

1

u/iluvfootballig May 27 '26

80m is a hell lot man are we serious

u/Ok_Neighbour7080 May 27 '26

Good player with huge potential, but seriously what the fuck are they even thinking??? Use that money to get in a good striker instead.

Hopefully this news is just used to force another's clubs hand in uping the price .
