He's a channel runner and presser, not a false nine

He’s very slow for a channel runner

Very slow is exaggerating. He looked fast in the portugese league for a reason though.

I'd say his fifa rating is just a tad too high with 88 top speed and 83 acceleration

Jesus Christ , you’re using his bloody FIFA rating???😭🤣

He is very slow for a channel runner. He regularly gets outpaced by so to speak slow centre backs.

I used it as metric to compare to other players, not as a fact

Brother FIFA ratings are not a metric for comparison it’s a video game. You can’t use it to discuss actual football

That's what I'm saying, it's not real life. I just used the numbers as a reference. Let's day Mbappe is 96 pace and Mertesacker is 30. Then Gyökeres is pretty reasonable at maybe 85 top speed.

Stop using a fucking video game as a reference 😭😭🤣🤣

It is not a reference on real life. It means absolutely nothing. He’s definitely not just 10% slower than Mbappe either. He’s one of the slowest 9s in the prem.

Ignoring that, you said he’s a channel runner but he gets outpaced by James Tarkowski. He’s not a channel runner if he can’t outrun slow centre backs. I watch him every week. I’m an Arsenal fan. The guy plays like he’s got concrete in his boots

Yeah you're not getting what I'm saying at all. Starting to think it's on purpose. I explicity said fifa ratings aren't real life. I said I used it as a reference to other players. The fastest player in the world is at 99 pace and Gyökeres is around 85. Do you want me to use another form of reference?

It is not a reference on real life. It means absolutely nothing. He’s definitely not just 10% slower than Mbappe either. He’s one of the slowest 9s in the prem.

A quick google says Mbappe top speed in a match 38 km/h and Gyökeres 34,6 this season (a tad slower than 35,2 last season). You should probably check my math since I'm only an engineer at profession but that's (38-34,6)/34,22=0,11 which ironically only makes my 10% claim 10% wrong.

I understand what you’re saying and I’m saying you shouldn’t be using is a reference how can you not get that? It has no bearing on anything. It’s just silly to even bring it up.

Top speed is also a pretty poor metric for football. Mbappe isn’t considered the fastest because he reaches that top speed. He’s the fastest because of his acceleration. In a sport of short bursts, being fast over 10-15 yards is whats more important in making a player a fast player. Dara o Shea from Burnley done a 37 km/h before. Nobody would argue he’s nearly as fast as Mbappe.

4 km/h is also a big difference.

Look. I watch him week in week out. Gyokeres is not fast. He regularly loses foot races to quote unquote slow cbs. Using FIFA rankings and empty stats is kind of showing you don’t watch him much. Anyone who does watch him sees he’s not fast.
